Welcome to National Candy Corn Day!

Candy Corn Day celebrates candy corn, the corn kernel shaped candy often eaten during Halloween and throughout the autumn months. The candy is multicolored, with a broad yellow end, tapered orange middle, and white tip, and is usually made from sugar, corn syrup, confectioner's wax, coloring, and binders. It began being manufactured in the 1880's by the Wunderlee Candy Company, and was originally called "Chicken Feed." At that time candy corn was marketed to rural residents. Around the turn of the 20th century, the Goelitz Confectionery Company—now known as Jelly Belly—began making candy corn. Today's recipe for candy corn is basically the same as it was when it was invented, except at that time the candy was made by hand, which is no longer the case.

Florida State opens as a 5.5 point favorite vs Syracuse (tomahawknation.com; Krypton)

The Florida State Seminoles will host the Syracuse Orange this weekend for Parents Weekend. FSU is coming off arguably the worst loss of the Jimbo Fisher era while Syracuse is wrapping up their bye week. FSU opened as a 5.5 point favorite with the line quickly dropping to its current value at 3.5 points.

The opening line suggest that FSU is just under a field goal better than Syracuse on a neutral field and one has to wonder if Vegas is devaluing a team that’s already beaten Clemson at home and nearly beat Miami on the road despite four offensive turnovers.

FSU is desperate for a better performance offensively after scoring a season-low three points vs Boston College. FSU has only 11 touchdowns in seven games and with a Syracuse team, led by rising star Dino Babers, that leads the nation in plays per game on deck; you better believe that points will be plentiful come Saturday at 12:20pm.

How Does Dino Babers Perform Off A Bye Week? – Orange Fizz – Free Syracuse Recruiting News (orangefizz.net; Aki)

In the NFL, there is a huge emphasis on performance off the bye week. But the same can be applied for college football. Syracuse has a full two weeks to prepare for its matchup with a reeling Florida State team. With the Orange searching for two wins to secure a bowl for the first time, a win over the Seminoles would be huge, especially with two home games remaining. This year is Dino Babers sixth as a head coach and he has been extremely good off of bye weeks.

Eastern Illinois

In Babers first season with the Panthers, he handily beat an 18th ranked Eastern Kentucky team 24-7. Granted it was an FCS ranking, but still impressive nonetheless. The next year, Babers had the same success. He smashed Austin Peay 63-7. Both of these wins of course wouldn’t have been possible without a stellar quarterback. Jimmy Garoppolo spearheaded those EIU teams.

Bowling Green

When Babers got his shot against FBS opponents, it was a lot of the same. The Falcons beat Akron 27-10 on the road in year one under Dino. Then in Babers’ second season at Bowling Green, they crushed a bowl-bound Ohio team 62-24. That second year beatdown was, once again, lead by a star quarterback. This time, it was Matt Johnson, who threw for almost 5,000 yards and 46 touchdowns that season. Now, Johnson is an offensive quality control coach with the Orange.

Florida State's offense on pace to be program's worst since 1975 (tallahassee.com; MaGahee III)

Charles Kelly and the Florida State defense have taken most of the heat for the Seminoles’ struggles this season.

But the offense has struggled far more than the defense, and are on pace to be the FSU's worst scoring offense since 1975.

At no point since Florida State joined the ACC has Florida State scored less than 194 points (2006) against Power-5 opponents in the regular season.

The 2017 Seminoles (2-5, 2-4) are currently on pace to score just 174 points against P5 opponents this season – FSU will play 10 P5 opponents this season while the 2006 team only played against nine – and average just 17.4 points per game.

FSU is also the lowest scoring P5 team in college football this season.

There are reasons for that.

The FSU offense has been plagued with injuries this season, most notably starting quarterback Deondre Francois, and currently have two true freshmen starting in the backfield.

NoleSports Podcast: Is Jimbo Fisher's process broken at Florida State? (tallahassee.com; McGahee III)

Florida State is coming off a 35-3 loss to Boston College.

The Seminoles are 2-5 this season -- 2-4 in the ACC -- and were thoroughly dominated by the Eagles on Friday night.

Now FSU will have to win out -- Or beat Syracuse, Delaware State, and Florida and reschedule the Louisiana-Monroe game -- in order to make a bowl game.

Why has FSU seen a drop-off this quickly and can FSU coach Jimbo Fisher fix the issues?

Noles247 writer Brendan Sonnone joins me to talk about the issues facing FSU currently, what happened in the Boston College game, and where the Seminoles go from here.

Fisher is constantly saying that his team has to "trust the process" but is the process broken at this point?

The next edition of the NoleSports Podcast will come out on Friday previewing the Seminoles' match-up with Syracuse. If you have a question that you would like to have answered send an email to wmcgahee@tallahassee.com or a tweet to @waynemcgaheeiii on Twitter.

What we learned: Five takeaways from Florida State's loss to Boston College (tallahassee.com; McGahee III)

Florida State has far more talent than Boston College does.

But it wasn’t apparent after the 35-3 beating that the Eagles put on the Seminoles on Friday night.

B.C. looked like the better team because it was the better team on Friday night.

And it really wasn’t close.

"They beat us in all three phases of the game," FSU coach Jimbo Fisher said.

"Up front. Both ways on the offensive and defensive lines. We had opportunities and didn't match."

The FSU offense looked like it didn’t have an identity – which has been a problem for the Seminoles this season – and the defense looked like it didn’t have a clue what it was doing.

Upsets happen in college football, but FSU is far too talented to lose by 32 points and not even be in the game after a quarter and a half.

The players continued to play hard throughout the game. They never gave up.

The coaching staff has let them down, and that starts with Fisher.

Clark: Rock bottom for Fisher's program (tallahassee.com; Clark)

It wasn't just one person telling Jimbo Fisher to "get new coaches" this time.

There were about 75 of them. And they just so happened to be the guys wearing helmets and shoulder pads.

One of Fisher's favorite sayings is "your actions speak so loud I can't hear what you're saying."

Well, the actions of the Florida State football players in their 35-3 loss to Boston College on Friday night said everything. And they said it quite loudly.

“They lined up, kicked our tails," Fisher said. "Outplayed us, outcoached us. Everything.”

This coaching staff isn't coming back intact in 2018. It can't. Not after 2-5. Not after an embarrassing performance on national television against a team full of dudes FSU would never dream of recruiting.

Florida State's streak of 35 bowl appearances in jeopardy (espn; AP)

Florida State's record-tying bowl streak is in jeopardy.

The Seminoles made their 35th consecutive bowl appearance last season, equaling a record set by Nebraska. The Cornhuskers' run ended in the 2004 season.

Florida State (2-5) lost to Boston College 35-3 on Friday night. The Seminoles' remaining schedule includes a game at No. 6 Clemson on Nov. 11, plus the rivalry game at Florida on Nov. 25. Sub-.500 teams can't go to bowls expect in unusual circumstances, such as if there aren't enough .500 teams to fill all the spots. There has been a shortfall the past couple seasons, but only a few teams were able to get in with fewer than six victories.

Florida State's chances of reaching six wins would probably look better if its game against Louisiana-Monroe on Sept. 9 hadn't been called off because of Hurricane Irma. As of now, that game hasn't been rescheduled.

There are 78 bowl spots available this season for FBS teams, and the following 39 teams have already reached six victories:
