Welcome to Cookie Monster Day!
Cookie Monster Day celebrates the popular Sesame Street character, Cookie Monster, and takes place on his birthday. Cookie Monster was created by Muppet creator Jim Henson. Before debuting on Sesame Street in 1969, the monster that would become Cookie Monster got his start in 1966 as a "Wheel-Stealer" on an unaired General Mills commercial for a snack food. The following year the monster was featured in an IBM training filmthat included a self-destructing "coffee break machine". On October 8, 1967, this skit appeared on The Ed Sullivan Show. The Cookie Monster prototype next appeared as Arnold in three commercials for Munchos, a potato snack from Frito-Lay. Henson could have kept making more commercials with the monster, but brought him to Sesame Street instead.

Fisher: Jacques Patrick to remain out vs. Syracuse, good chance to play vs. Clemson (tomahawknation.com; Visser)
Florida State vs. Clemson won’t have quite the same luster it has in years past, but make no mistake about it: both teams still very much want to win this game, the game that has decided the ACC for as long as any player on either side has been a collegiate athlete.
And one of those athletes previousy thought lost for the season could have a chance to affect the outcome of this matchup between traditional ACC powers— actually, according to FSU Head Coach Jimbo Fisher, a good chance. Junior running back Jacques Patrick, previously the starter in front of five-star recruit Cam Akers, led Florida State RBs with 5.69 YPC prior to injuring his knee against Louisville. A rare bright spot for the ’Noles this year, Patrick was having an impressive 2017 campaign before requiring surgery the other week. But he was on his feet the day after, and now could be on the field as soon as next weekend, per a remark from Fisher at his weekly call-in show.
Jimbo on report that Patrick could be back this week: He won't play this week. But there is a good chance he'll play next wk. @BudElliott3

Jimbo Fisher Call-In Show updates/recap: Syracuse Week (tomahawknation.com; Miller/Aller)
Florida State head football coach Jimbo Fisher held his weekly Call-In Show from the Downtown Sheraton in Tallahassee on Wednesday night, taking questions from fans and guests in person ahead of Saturday’s home game against Syracuse.
The ’Noles enter their game vs. the Orange at 2-5 — and winless at home — and are still hoping to win at least three of the final four games to have any possibility of playing in a bowl game. At 5-6, Florida State could apply for a waiver, and if granted, would put them in a bowl game if there are not enough bowl eligible teams to fill all the slots.
There was a report on Wednesday from the Orlando Sentinel that stated starting RB Jacques Patrick, who suffered a knee injury and had already underwent surgery, was hoping to play this weekend against Syracuse, but Fisher said Patrick would NOT play — but did have a much better chance to play next weekend against Clemson.
He also updated the injury status of starting wideout Keith Gavin (ankle), who has been out for almost a month.
Here’s what Fisher had to say about Patrick and Gavin’s availability in the near future, as well as a few other topics ...

FSU Football: Will ‘Noles show any heart against Syracuse? (chopchat.com; Hunt)
FSU football is coming off a loss against Boston College that’s arguably the worst in school history.
FSU football will host Syracuse Saturday afternoon in Doak Campbell Stadium in a game they have to win to remain in the mix to be bowl eligible.
The ‘Nole are coming off the Boston College loss where the essentially quit after going down 21-0 midway through the second quarter.
It was the first time I can remember watching a FSU team quit, so the question has to be asked if they’ll quit again on Jimbo Fisher?
Will They Quit Again?
If Syracuse jumps out to an early lead it’ll be telling to see how FSU football responds. Syracuse has a dual threat quarterback in Eric Dungey who could give FSU headaches on defense.

Syracuse Orange vs. Florida State Seminoles Preview and Prediction (athlonsports.com; Ferguson)
One of these teams will look to take a big step toward becoming bowl-eligible on Saturday in Tallahassee, and to the surprise of many, that team is not Florida State. Syracuse arrives at Doak Campbell Stadium with a record of 4-4 and 2-2 in ACC play. The Orange were idle last week after a hard-fought loss at Miami the week before.
Meanwhile, the Seminoles are off to their worst seven-game start since 1976, which happened to be the legendary Bobby Bowden’s first season at head coach. At 2-5, FSU is in real danger of missing a bowl game for the first time since 1981 and having its first losing season since that aforementioned year of '76. The Seminoles are coming off an embarrassing 35-3 loss at Boston College.

Chandler junior LB Zach Bowers picks up scholarship offer from Syracuse Orange (azcentral.com; Obert)
Chandler junior linebacker Zach Bowers, who has one Pac-12 offer, picked up his first ACC offer on Wednesday.
It came from Syracuse. He announced it on Twitter.
"I'm very excited about the Syracuse offer," said Bowers, 6-foot-1, 215 pounds, who missed two games with an injury but still had 45 tackles and two caused fumbles to go with four quarterback hurries. "It is a great school academically with a long tradition of winning."

How a smoothie, pizza and some yoga led to a new writing project for one Syracuse middle school (PS; Weaver)
Jesse Swank says last year some mornings at Lincoln Middle School could be a little crazed.
"This year," the seventh-grader says, "it's more peaceful and calm."
The difference, students and teachers say, are the journals. For just a few minutes at the beginning of each morning, students write down what they're grateful for. A borrowed pencil. Helping other people. Friends and family. Clothes.
"Having my glasses," Swank, who is 12, said a couple weeks ago, describing his morning entry. "Having a bed to sleep in."
The students don't have to write anything if they don't feel like it. And they don't have to show their teachers what they wrote. The only rule is they must stay quiet for a few minutes each morning, then listen to the students who wish to share their gratitude.
