Welcome to Prohibition Repeal Day!
Repeal Day celebrates the day that brought the Twenty-first Amendment into effect, after the final state needed to ratify it did so. The amendment repealed the Eighteenth Amendment, which had prohibited the production, transportation, and sale of alcohol. Although December 5 has long since been known as "repeal day," it was not officially celebrated as such until mixologist, bartender, and writer Jeffrey Morgenthaler shared his idea for the day in 2006. He believed it was appropriate to have a holiday celebrating the drinking of alcohol on the date, since the date had more of a direct connection to drinking than holidays such as St. Patrick's Day and Cinco de Mayo—days when drinking is quite popular.

What did we learn in the ACC championship game? Nothing other than getting yet another reminder that Dabo Swinney has the Clemson juggernaut rolling. The dominant win over Miami assured Clemson our top spot for the third straight year, and it was another sign that the Tigers are peaking at just the right moment.
1. Clemson Tigers (12-1, 7-1). It's a new set of stars, but the results are the same. Clemson is the ACC's best team, and it turns out, it wasn't that close. The Tigers dominated Miami in the title game and for the third straight season will head to the College Football Playoff.
2. Miami Hurricanes (10-2, 7-1). This was a better team that it showed against Clemson, but with Chris Herndon and Ahmmon Richards out with injuries, the passing game really never stood a chance against Clemson's attacking D. But while the ending was ugly, 2017 was most certainly a step forward for Miami, and a stellar recruiting class means brighter days are ahead.
3. Virginia Tech Hokies (9-3, 5-3). A strong start to the season ended with a thud for QB Josh Jackson, but the extra time off and bowl practices could be just the spark he needs to get healthy, make some adjustments and find his groove again. He still figures to be the centerpiece for Virginia Tech's offense in 2018, so finding some answers now is critical for next year's success.

Amongst the Power 5 leagues, how does ACC Football stack up? - ACCSports.com (accsports.com; Powell)
With Clemson’s invitation to the College Football Playoff, the ACC joins the SEC as the only Power 5 conference to send a team to the CFP all four years of its existence. The ACC is the only league with two national championships over the past four seasons. Clemson provides a chance for a third title in five seasons.
The ACC also won eight non-conference games in 2017 against Power 5 opponents — more than any other Power 5 conference.
The ACC played more out-of-conference Power 5 games than any other league — 17 — which partially explains the higher number of wins. But it’s also a testament to the willingness of programs throughout the ACC to beef up their schedules with top-flight opposition.
The ACC’s 47 percent winning percentage in out-of-conference Power 5 games bested the SEC (6-9, 40 percent) and Big 12 (4-6, 40 percent). The Pac-12 had the best winning percentage, winning six out of eight non-conference matchups with Power 5 foes.

Uniforms for Army-Navy football game to honor 10th Mountain Division (newyorkupstate,com; Axe)
Army will be wearing a new uniform honoring one of its famed divisions when it plays Navy this weekend in its big rivalry game.
The 'Climb to Glory' uniforms are made by Nike, whose co-founder Bill Bowerman managed supplies for the 10th Mountain Division, based at Fort Drum near Watertown, N.Y.
The unit is noted for its ability to fight in harsh mountainous terrain.
A shoulder patch on the uniform features a blue background with crossed bayonets to denote the infantry and represents the Roman numeral 10 for the unit's number. The patch is shaped like a powder keg and the word "mountain" is featured in white on a blue tab.

The white uniforms are made from material that minimizes weight, even when soaked with sweat. The uniforms allow for greater range of motion and are cut in a way to better deal with heat.

Michigan's Jim Harbaugh rips Michigan State coach Mark Dantonio after bowl comments (landof10.com; Staats)
Michigan coach Jim Harbaugh has fired a shot back at Michigan State coach Mark Dantonio.
On Sunday, Michigan State players expressed frustration over their bowl selection. The Spartans are in the Holiday Bowl on Dec. 28 and Michigan is in the bigger Outback Bowl on Jan. 1. This is even though Michigan State defeated Michigan 14-10 in Ann Arbor.
“I just look at it as an opportunity to play in the Holiday Bowl right now. The records are what they are. I’ll just continue to focus on beating Michigan and let things sort of sort out,” Dantonio said on Sunday.
On Monday, Harbaugh fired back at Dantonio on Twitter.
“Saw Coach D comments on continuing to ‘focus’ on how ‘he’ can beat Michigan,” Harbaugh tweeted. “Congrats on turning around a 3-9 team, plagued with off field issues. Good for BIG to have him back.”

Odds of white Christmas in Upstate NY 'looking pretty good' as cold air returns (PS; Coin)
Upstate New York already has among the highest odds in the country for a white Christmas, thanks to snow flying off the Great Lakes. (See chart below.)
This year's chances might be even better than usual.
"It's definitely turning colder the second half of this week, and that will continue into the following week," said Accuweather meteorologist Tom Kines. "I suspect in that 10-day period we'll probably see a couple of systems come through that will bring snow."
There's also a good chance of lake effect snow this week, particularly in Tug Hill and Western New York. And while the weather pattern turns slightly warmer later in the month, Kines said, it will likely still be cold enough to keep any snow that's already fallen and to generate some more snowfall.
"If you're rooting for a white Christmas," he said, "I'd say right now things are looking pretty good for you."
