Welcome to Pay-a-Compliment Day!
Pay-a-Compliment Day is for giving "genuine and soulful compliments" to others. It was created by Adrienne Koopersmith, on February 6, 1995. On that cold February day, Koopersmith was riding the bus in Chicago, when she noticed someone who wasn't at a bus stop was frantically waving at the bus she was on, hoping that it would stop; the bus driver stopped and let the person on. When Koopersmith exited the bus, she complimented the driver on how nice it was that he had stopped. Koopersmith then went home and decided to make the holiday. Since she was warmed by the bus driver's actions, she wanted that warmth to be part of each February 6 for years to come.

Clemson has signed the nation's No. 1 pocket passer QB prospect, Trevor Lawrence.

So how do you go from pretender to contender or from contender to champion in college football? In a word: recruiting.
It's the tried-and-true formula. For all the schemes and strategies, ultimately winning comes down to how good your players are. Take Clemson, Georgia and Penn State as evidence of this.
All have seen their recruiting surge in recent years, though the way each program has recruited is different. It's garnered positive results for all of them: Clemson has been in the College Football Playoff each of the last three years and won a title; Georgia fell just short of winning it all this season; and Penn State has been on the cusp of making it each of the last two seasons.
How have these programs done it?
Clemson: Stockpiling elite playmakers in the passing game
The Tigers have put together productive offensive attacks thanks to their recruiting at key skill positions. Since 2014 (the year they signed Deshaun Watson), the Tigers have signed eight quarterbacks, receivers and tight ends who ranked in the top three nationally at their position. That's more than any other program in the FBS over that span, according to ESPN Stats & Information.

ACC Football Rx: Recruiting Battleground States (accfootballrx.com)
From the ESPN article: College Football Recruiting's True Battlegrounds
COMMENTS: This stuff changes - but very slowly. 50 years ago Pennsylvania had more top recruits than Florida (IIRC); now the Sunshine State is #1 and PA is just a nice middle of the road football state.
You can certainly see the SEC's "secret" formula immediately: 5 of the top 6 states are in their footprint (all except California). The ACC is the clear #2 in terms of local recruiting, with 4 of the top 9 states (but conspicuously missing CA, TX, LA, AL and OH).
We also see from this that, while the rest could at least theoretically build a top team with only local talent, that clearly isn't true for Boston College and Louisville - both MUST rely on recruiting other states (and for all practical purposes, so must Syracuse). All 3 of those teams are in the Atlantic Division... things that make you go hmmm.

Winter storm watches issued for Upstate NY; 6-12 inches of snow forecast (PS; Coin)
Winter storm watches have been issued across nearly all of Upstate New York in anticipation of a coastal storm that could drop 6 to 12 inches of snow, mostly during the day Wednesday.
"Plan on difficult travel conditions, including during the afternoon commute on Wednesday," said the watch issued by the National Weather Service's Binghamton office. "Total snow accumulations of 6 to 10 inches are expected."
A foot or more of snow is possible in the Adirondacks.
"Snow moves in quickly Wednesday morning from the west," the weather service said, with the heaviest snow coming Wednesday morning to Wednesday evening. Snowfall rates could reach 1 inch per hour, and visibility will be sharply reduced.
The watches will be in effect from 6 a.m. Wednesday to 4 a.m. Thursday.
No watches have been issued for counties along Lake Erie, because snowfall totals are expected to be lower there. Weather service forecasters in Buffalo say, however, those counties could get more snow if the storm moves farther west than currently projected.
