Welcome to National Oreo Cookie Day!

Today we celebrate the best-selling cookie in the United States, the Oreo. It can be eaten by itself but is often paired with milk. It can be used to make cakes, milkshakes, and other desserts, and can even be deep fried. Made up of two chocolate disks and white cream filling, the original name for the cookie was the "Oreo Biscuit." It looked similar to today's Oreo, although over time there have been small changes to both the chocolate disks and the cream. The cream used today was created by Sam Procello, who was Nabisco's "principal scientist," known as "Mr. Oreo." The current design of the cookie has been in place since 1952. Oreos were created by Nabisco and first sold on March 6, 1912—the same date as National Oreo Cookie Day—by grocer S.C. Thuesen in Hoboken, New Jersey. Nabisco applied for a trademark on March 14, 1912, and received it on August 12, 1913.

Syracuse coach Dino Babers wants more than just a few big wins (espn; Adelson)

Since Dino Babers arrived at Syracuse, the Orange have shown tantalizing potential.

In his first year, 2016, a win over No. 17 Virginia Tech produced a postgame speech so passionate, so heartfelt, Babers had his calendar filled for weeks just to answer media requests about one of the most viral moments of the college football season.

Then last year, Syracuse took down No. 2 Clemson on a Friday night on national television, producing yet another round of publicity and praise for all the work Babers, his players and staff have done to get the program headed in the right direction.

2018 ACC spring football schedule: Practice dates, game times, TV channels (sbssports.com; Kercheval)

The 2018 college football season doesn't begin for another six more months, but spring practice is upon us to help the offseason go by just a little bit easier. Spring drills around the country have already started in some spots and will pick up as the month progresses. As we've done with other conferences, here's what you need to know for ACC programs as they begin their spring practices.

All spring practice and game times and dates are subject to change. Here are a few notes to keep in mind:

  • As will be the case across the country, April 14 will be a busy day in ACC country. More than half of the conference will end their respective spring schedules then before taking a breaking for the dog days of summer. Duke in particular has started spring practice far earlier in the past, but will be one of the teams playing its spring game on that day.
  • Only one program, Florida State, will be breaking in a new coach: Willie Taggart. The proven program-builder will be leading the Seminoles out on to the field for the first time since Jimbo Fisher left for Texas A&M.
  • The most high-profile quarterback battle will be at Louisville, which moves on without 2016 Heisman winner Lamar Jackson. Jawon Pass appears to have the inside track to succeed Jackson, but he'll have to hold off Malik Cunningham.
  • Miami did not hold a spring game last year, but will also hold its on April 14 this year. However, that will not be the last practice for the Hurricanes of the spring.

Storm could dump heavy snow on Upstate NY areas hit hardest last week (PS; Coin)

Another winter storm could bring a foot of snow to the Catskills area
Days after a massive winter storm that dumped more than 3 feet of snow in eastern New York last week, another storm could bring a foot this week to those areas hit the hardest last week.

"They don’t need the snow, and they’re going to get more of it," said Accuweather meteorologist Tom Kines.

Schoharie County, which sits just west of Albany, was the epicenter of snowfall in New York from Friday's nor'easter.

"We had reports of 40 inches of Schoharie County," said John Quinlan, a meteorologist with the National Weather Service's Albany office. "It looks like Schoharie County right down through the Catskills and the Berkshires south are going to receive the most."

For all the Jersey haters, the Oreo was invented there. Hate Rutgers, not NJ.

For all the Jersey haters, the Oreo was invented there. Hate Rutgers, not NJ.
To clarify, I don't hate New Jersey; I hate Rutgers.

Further clarification: the great Oreo cookie was invented in the Empire State; the great state of New York.

New Jersey has the honor of being the first place it was sold.

The "Oreo Biscuit" was first developed and produced by the National Biscuit Company (today known as Nabisco) in 1912[5][6] at its Chelsea, Manhattan factory in the current-day Chelsea Market complex, located on Ninth Avenue between 15th and 16th Streets.[7]Today, this same block of Ninth Avenue is known as "Oreo Way."[7] The name Oreo was first trademarked on March 14, 1912.[8] It was launched as an imitation of the Hydroxcookie manufactured by Sunshine company, introduced in 1908.[9]

The original design of the cookie featured a wreath around the edge of the cookie and the name "OREO" in the center.[10] In the United States, they were sold for 25 cents a pound (453 g) in novelty cans with clear glass tops. The first Oreo was sold on March 6, 1912, to a grocer in Hoboken, New Jersey.[11]

Well done Tom.

Chlamydia, however, was invented in New Jersey.
No no no. You’ve got it all wrong. Syphilis, followed shortly after by liver psoriasis.
