Welcome to International Women's Day!

International Women's Day (March 8) is a global day celebrating the social, economic, cultural and political achievements of women. The day also marks a call to action for accelerating gender parity. International Women's Day (IWD) has occurred for well over a century, with the first March 8 IWD gathering supported by over a million people in Austria, Denmark, Germany and Switzerland. Prior to this the Socialist Party of America, United Kingdom's Suffragists and Suffragettes, and further groups campaigned for women equality. Today, IWD belongs to all groups collectively everywhere. IWD is not country, group or organisation specific. Make IWD your day! - everyday!

Willie Taggart: No depth chart yet at QB for Florida State (espn; Hale)

Over the next few weeks, we'll be chatting with each ACC football coach to go over the highs and lows of 2017 and take a look at what's in store for spring practice and the season ahead.

Next up is the Florida State Seminoles' Willie Taggart, who takes over a 6-6 Florida State team searching for a new direction.

Q: It has been a whirlwind first couple months on the job, wrapping up recruiting and getting a handle on things. What has the experience been like?

A: It's been great. I've done this before. I'm a veteran when it comes to taking over programs now. When I'm through coaching, I might get into those search firms. But it's gone well. Recruiting, we finished strong. Our staff did a great job of coming in in a short amount of time and establishing a good recruiting class and getting the guys we needed to go where we're trying to go. Our coaches are coming together quick, and our players are seeing it. Now that we have an opportunity to get out with them, that's been great as well. And we're still undefeated.

Q: What was the morale level when you arrived?

A: When I got here, you could tell this football team was hurt and hurt from a lot of different perspectives. They lost the coach that brought them here, and they weren't necessarily too fond of that. And the way the season went, they weren't fond of that. That was not what they signed up for when the decided to come to Florida State. But they've been awesome with the buy-in. You see them smiling, happy and competing like we want them to, and [they] are starting to get over the things that went wrong. But for us, we try to preach to them that you have to understand the things that went wrong and make sure we correct those things.

With Lamar Jackson gone, ACC in search of offensive stars (espn; Adelson)

Lamar Jackson led the ACC in both rushing and passing last season, but to truly understand the Louisville Cardinals quarterback's offensive dominance, look beyond the stats to something else.

Jackson easily won ACC Player of the Year honors as the only offensive player to pick up a vote. The voting for ACC Offensive Player of the Year was more lopsided: Jackson got 57 out of 59 votes. Kelly Bryant and Jaylen Samuels each got one.

So it is safe to say the ACC is in need of an offensive showstopper now that Jackson has left for the NFL. There are plenty of candidates, but what will be fascinating to watch as spring unfolds is whether the combined talent can swing the ACC back toward a league that has more balance between its offensive and defensive stars.

Schumer: Infrastructure bill will help NY pay for Interstate 81 in Syracuse (PS; Weiner)

Sen. Charles Schumer says a $1 trillion infrastructure plan Democrats unveiled Tuesday would boost funding for interstate highways, ensuring that the federal government will pay most of the cost to transform Interstate 81 in Syracuse.

Schumer, D-N.Y., said the Democratic plan would invest in projects like Interstate 81 at a time when President Donald Trump has proposed cutting the federal Highway Trust Fund by $122 billion over 10 years.

The Highway Trust Fund is the largest source of federal aid to the states for road projects and mass transit, typically funding 80 percent of the costs of interstate highway projects.

Trump proposed a vastly different plan for infrastructure spending last month, suggesting that $200 billion in federal funds could be used to stimulate $1.5 trillion in new projects through private investments, toll roads, and other public-private partnerships.

Schumer said the president's plan failed to pick up support among Democrats and some Republicans because it relies too much on private investment.

"We need significant increases in direct federal funding if we're going to seriously address our nation's crumbling infrastructure," Schumer said Tuesday as he touted his proposal.
