Welcome to International Panic Day!
The word panic is derived from the ancient Greek word Pan. Pan was the Greek god of shepherds, woods, and pastures, and when he would awake from a nap he would let out a yell that caused flocks to stampede. Greek authors coined the word “panikon” from this, which meant “sudden fear”. Panic is “a sudden sensation of fear, which is so strong as to dominate or prevent reason or logical thinking, replacing it with an animalistic fight-or-flight reaction.” Panic can happen in an individual or it can happen in large groups. It is not healthy for people to be in a constant panic, as stress levels are raised which can be detrimental to health. This day is dedicated to this sensation of panicking.

Three-Star Lineman Commits to Syracuse – Orange Fizz – Free Syracuse Recruiting News (orangefizz.net; Hoppe)
On a day when Syracuse hosted an on-campus football camp, the program picked up a big 2019 commitment from one of the attendees. Offensive lineman Anthony Red has verbally committed to the Orange, making him the first in his class at his position and the third overall.

Red, from St. Thomas More High School in Bloomfield, CT, is rated by 247Sports as a three-star prospect and the 47th best guard in his class. The 6-foot-4 lineman has played both guard and tackle during his first three years of high school. Even though he’s ranked by many recruiting services as a guard, Red has the size that could make him a dangerous tackle at the next level. Aside from Syracuse, Red had offers from Buffalo, Temple, and UMass.
After Sunday’s camp, Red felt he was ready to announce his commitment to Dino Babers’ program. Once he consulted his family, Red informed the Syracuse coaching staff that he was ready to commit, according to 247Sports.
The Connecticut native becomes the second 2019 recruit to commit to Syracuse in the past week after defensive lineman Joe Rondi did the same last Wednesday. Red and Rondi join slot receiver Courtney Jackson as the only three Syracuse commits in the class of 2019.

Heat alert issued for Upstate NY: It could feel like 100 degrees Monday (PS; Coin)
A heat advisory has been issued for much of Upstate New York for Monday.
The heat index, a combination of temperature and humidity, could climb to 100 degrees in parts of Upstate on Monday afternoon. A heat index that high can cause heat stroke, the weather service said.
"The combination of hot temperatures and high humidity will combine to create a situation in which heat illnesses are possible," the National Weather Service said.
Temperatures will be about 90 by mid-afternoon, and dew points could reach into the lower 70s. That's more typical of southern Florida than Upstate New York.
Humans sweat to cool off, but high humidity means the air is already saturated so sweat doesn't evaporate, keeping heat trapped in the body.
The advisory is in place from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m., but mid-afternoon will be the worst time.
"The most oppressive combination of heat and humidity will be during the midday and afternoon hours Monday," the weather service said.
The following counties are under the advisory:
Central New York: Broome, Cayuga, Chemung, Chenango, Cortland, Delaware, Madison, Oneida, Onondaga, Otsego, Schuyler, Seneca, Steuben, Sullivan, Tioga, Tompkins and Yates.
