Welcome to National Bundt Day!
National Bundt Day, also known as National Bundt Cake Day is observed every year on November 15. As people across the United States are planning their menu for the upcoming holidays, a bundt cake is sure to be on the list at least once.
A bundt cake can be any cake baked in a Bundt pan, forming it into a distinctive ring shape. The mold of the Bundt pan was originally inspired by the traditional European fruit cake known as Gugelhupf. It was in the 1950s and 1960s that cookware Nordic Ware popularized the style for the mold design and trademarked the name Bundt. Nordic Ware started producing Bundt pans made from cast aluminum. Similar pans are sold as “fluted tube pans” or other similar names.

Syracuse football vs. Notre Dame: See our picks, make your predictions (PS; Staff)
BRENT AXE
Notre Dame 38, Syracuse 30
The Orange has every opportunity to win this game but I think the difference is the Notre Dame defense. Eric Dungey hasn't seen a defense this good since the Clemson game and I think the Irish will shut down Dungey and enough SU drives to gain the edge and win a good game at Yankee Stadium.
STEPHEN BAILEY
Notre Dame 41, Syracuse 37
I couldn't quite talk myself into the upset. The Orange is obviously no stranger to playing the role of underdog, but Yankee Stadium, despite being in New York, will be no home venue. It's going to be loud when the SU offense has to operate late and weather conditions could play a factor in the passing game. A path to victory for Syracuse lies in winning the turnover battle and finding a way to stop one of the nation's better quarterbacks late -- something the program has largely been unable to do during the Dino Babers era.
NATE MINK
Notre Dame 27, Syracuse 24
Windy weather is in the forecast for Saturday, and that is going to impact two explosive offenses. Notre Dame has one of the best defenses in the country led by All-America-type players Jerry Tillery and Julian Love. The Irish defense will do enough to keep SU's offense in check, and both quarterbacks, Ian Book and Brandon Wimbush, will pose problems for an SU defense that will be tested against the run like it was earlier in the year against Clemson and Pittsburgh.
JASON MURRAY
Syracuse 27, Notre Dame 24
Sometimes, a team just has a magical season and I think Dino Babers has this team ready to make a statement. The Orange has played its best football in the past three weeks and Notre Dame is ripe for the taking. Andre Szmyt hits the game-winner as the clock expires.
DENNIS NETT
Notre Dame 28, Syracuse 24
I think Syracuse will play well, but will they play well enough to beat Notre Dame? The Fighting Irish are big and strong and are able to rotate players in and out. Eventually that will wear Syracuse down.
Why Syracuse football will upset Notre Dame | The NewsHouse (thenewshouse.com; Scott)
Before the season, the Syracuse vs. Notre Dame game wasn’t supposed to be this big.
In fact, it was probably an afterthought for Irish fans. It was likely looked at as a just a cool experience to get to play at Yankee Stadium and as a way to prepare to for the big one against USC the next week.
Well, instead, USC is unranked at 5-5 and is fighting for bowl eligibility. Syracuse is 8-2 and ranked No. 12 in the country.
Just like everyone expected, right?
The Orange has surprised everyone this season.
On the gambling site BetDSI, Las Vegas set Syracuse’s over/under wins at 4.5. Syracuse was also picked to finish dead last in the ACC preseason poll. DEAD LAST.
It is truly remarkable what Dino Babers’ squad has done this season after two straight 4-8 seasons.
And they aren’t done yet.
Let me cut to the chase: Notre Dame is overrated.
Yes, they are 10-0 — I get it. However, the Irish have only played one team that is currently ranked in the top 25.

Will Syracuse keep things tight vs. Notre Dame? (SI; Chase)
Three things to know before betting on Syracuse-Notre Dame:
1. With a perfect 10-0 record (5-4-1 against the spread), Notre Dame is almost assured a spot in the College Football Playoff if it can win its final two regular season games against Syracuse and USC. The first of those matchups will come this Saturday afternoon against the Orange at Yankee Stadium as part of Notre Dame's Shamrock Series, a near-annual game (it skipped last year) in which the Fighting Irish play a "home" game at a neutral field such as AT&T Stadium in Dallas or Fenway Park in Boston. Notre Dame has gone a perfect 8-0 in the Shamrock Series to this point (5-3 ATS), having won those eight games by an average of 21.5 points.
This week's game against Syracuse is one of the toughest on ND's schedule this year, as the Orange have climbed all the way up to No. 12 in the AP Top 25 on the strength of an 8-2 record (7-3 ATS). One of Cuse's losses was a near upset of Clemson on the road in late September, and its best win was a 51-41 takedown of NC State at home in late October. Syracuse suffered defeats in its recent matchups with the Irish in 2014 and 2016, with the Irish covering as road favorites in both games.
2. That 51-41 win over NC State was characteristic of Syracuse's recent success. In the five games the Orange have played since losing at Clemson, they've scored no fewer than 37 points in a game, gone over 50 points twice and compiled a 4-1 record. On the season, they're seventh in the nation in scoring offense at 44.4 points per game.

Winning college football teams can boost spirits and economy: Mitchell Patterson (PS; Patterson)
Earlier this year, Syracuse University football achieved something the team hadn't done in over 17 years: It became a nationally ranked team. Since then, the team has continued to win and advance in the rankings. The once-proud football program has had its share of ups and downs. A generation of fans hasn't seen what it was like when power teams of the 1990s, including Miami and Tennessee, feared playing in front of a sold-out Carrier Dome crowd.
For decades, the Syracuse basketball program has been one of the best in the business. Other sports like lacrosse have also had their run. But when it comes to the heart of a university's athletic program, football is king. Other college towns have embraced the seven-game home season, with both the universities and host communities investing millions for the purpose of a bigger return. A return to its winning ways for the SU program, if it can be sustained, may be providing us the same opportunity.
A winning season has lifted the spirits of the fan base and the community. Research shows it also could lift our economy. The university will undoubtedly see increased revenue from ticket and merchandise sales and prime time television. The region itself will see the benefit of the team's success. As more fans come to watch their team play, hotels, restaurants, bars and retailers can take advantage.
College sports have changed since the SU football program was strong in the 1980s and '90s. It has become a multi-billion dollar business, with a digitally engaged fan base. Universities and the surrounding regions are realizing the impact of growing visibility and attendance, and are seeing a return on investment from improving their facilities for players and fans.
Football's revenue impact for the colleges and universities is frequently discussed. Each Atlantic Coast Conference school receives from the conference annually:
* $17 million from the ACC Network's deal with ESPN.
* $10 million in bowl and tournament revenue shares.
* And the prediction of another $10 million per school from the launch of the full-time ACC Channel.

Notre Dame Fighting Irish: Syracuse Orange Week THE SHAMROCK SERIES (onefootdown.com; Staff)
The #3 ranked Notre Dame Fighting Irish seem to be poking the football gods a bit this week as they get set to play the #12 ranked Syracuse Orange. Many of us last winter struggled to understand why the Irish changed a home game to a neutral site game for a Shamrock Series matchup (in November no less) as it seemed detrimental to WINNING — which is what’s actually important to pretty much everybody.
It was a serious issue all spring and summer... and then something worse happend. The Irish and Under Armour unveiled the Shamrock Series uniforms.
All of this weirdness is happening and the Irish are 2 games away from making the college football playoff for the first time ever. [whispers: and Syracuse is kind of good].
We have work to do, so getting into another fashion meltdown is off of the radar (for now). Follow along this week with everything SHAMROCK SERIES in the thread below. And yes... it’s getting out of hand.

Throwback Thursday: Notre Dame Fighting Irish vs Syracuse Orange Week (onefootdown.com; Ceryak)
My dad graduated from Notre Dame in 1965, and over the years, I have heard countless stories of his adventures as a Notre Dame student. But the one I think I’ve heard the most, is the trip made (by train) his junior year, to New York City, to see the Notre Dame Fighting Irish face the Syracuse Orange at Yankee Stadium in the Bronx. But before I get to that story, I wanted to share another story that he and I talked about this week, and that is the Notre Dame vs. Syracuse game from 1961.
We all know that Notre Dame is no stranger to controversy. If you are a follower of college football today, you probably know that when the defense commits a penalty, the offense is usually compensated with either a replay of downs, or gained yardage. But prior to this 1961 match-up between Notre Dame and Syracuse, this was not the case. The rules were especially unclear in terms of how to handle a defensive penalty when it occurred at the end of the game, and with no time remaining on the clock. In the 1961 Notre Dame vs Syracuse game, this lack of clarity meant the difference between a win and a loss that wouldn’t be resolved until months afterward.
As detailed by Notre Dame Archives, “Trailing 14-15 with only a few seconds left on the clock, Notre Dame sent in kicker Joe Perkowski to attempt a 56-yard field goal. He missed soundly as time expired, but there were flags on the field. Syracuse player Walt Sweeney was called for roughing the kicker, a penalty that carried a charge of fifteen yards. The gained yardage would put Perkowski in better position, although it would not be easy. Since time had expired on the previous play, it wasn’t obvious Perkowski would even get a second attempt. The Syracuse fans had already started to rush the field to celebrate their victory.”

5 Key Matchups in Notre Dame’s Showdown with Syracuse (uhnd.com; Sullivan)
Currently ranked third and needing two more victories to clinch a spot in the college football playoffs, the Notre Dame Fighting Irish head to the new Yankee Stadium to take on the Syracuse Orangemen. Unlike recent years, where Syracuse has had their struggles, the Orangemen enter this clash ranked 12th and with an 8-2 mark.
The Irish are hoping to keep their momentum as they come off a solid 42-13 win over Florida State in which they did most of their damage in the first half. They were able to put up 32 first half points with reserve quarterback Brandon Wimbush at the controls, but the Notre Dame defense also once again made their mark throughout the contest.

Notre Dame Football: Five Problematic Players on Syracuse (slapthesign.com; Walsh)
These guys could give Notre Dame football some problems this weekend.
Notre Dame football takes on Syracuse this Saturday at Yankee Stadium. The ranked matchup not only adds to the deep history of Notre Dame in New York City, but it will also be a defining game in terms of Notre Dame’s College Football Playoff aspirations.
Syracuse comes in at 8-2 on the season. This Orange team has exceeded expectations thus far, and they look to continue to do so in a big way by trying to take down the undefeated Fighting Irish. Here are the Syracuse players that the Irish should watch out for when they battle the Orange in the Big Apple.
Eric Dungey, Quarterback
Dungey has completed 60 percent of his passes this year. He has accumulated 2,193 yards in the air and averages 7.2 yards per attempt. He has passed for 14 touchdowns and has only thrown five interceptions in 305 attempts. While Dungey is good enough as a passer, he is also an impact player on the ground. He is second in rushing for the Orange with 690 total yards. Moe Neal, who is first in rushing, has 712 total yards. Before last week, Dungey was leading the Orange in this category. He is averaging 4.7 yards per carry and has added 12 rushing touchdowns. All this considered, it is easy to see why Dungey is a finalist for the Johnny Unitas Golden Arm Award.
The Notre Dame defense has yet to play against a quarter back with this kind of dual-threat ability. The Irish will have to get to Dungey and then contain him, not allowing him to extend plays or turn a busted play into a big play.
Moe Neal, Running Back
Neal is leading the Orange in rushing with 712 yards on the year. He is averaging 6.1 yards per carry and has scored five times. He started the year hot, accumulating at least 70 yards rushing in his first four games. He cooled down a bit after that, but he seems to have found his stride again coming off Syracuse’s blowout win against Louisville. Neal had eight carries for 159 yards against the Cardinals on the road to scoring two touchdowns. Neal did not do anything fancy in the game. He simply trusted his instincts and gutted Louisville up the middle. The Notre Dame defense has played well against the run for the most part. However, there are moments where they seem to let guys gash them up the middle and allow the opposition to extend drives. The Irish will have their hands full having to account for both Neal and Dungey on the ground.

Notre Dame Football: 3 Bold Predictions vs. Syracuse (slapthesign.com; Eyrich)
Notre Dame football heads to New York to play Syracuse in the 2018 Shamrock Series.
College Football in 2018 has been a weird one. The only things that really have panned out the way we thought they would have been Alabama and Clemson. The season that Notre Dame football is having is quite the suprise.
To top it all off, not many thought Notre Dame would control their destiny for a spot in the College Football Playoff. No one thought Syracuse would be 8-2 at this point. And who would have thought Notre Dame would be back at Yankee Stadium, this time wearing pinstripes?
Oh, how the Irish fans that roll with Boston are not pleased about that.

Syracuse Football: Behind Enemy Lines with Slap Sign (Notre Dame) (itlh.com; Esden Jr)
Here’s five burning questions with Slap the Sign (Notre Dame affiliate). Can the Syracuse football squad add another upset to their resume?
The Syracuse football team isn’t making the College Football Playoff. Even if the Orange beat Notre Dame and Boston College (two top 25 teams) to end their season, they wouldn’t make it. While the Irish if they win out, they’re assuredly in the College Football Playoff.
Sunday, even if there are penalties
Dino Babers has openly called this game a ‘freebie’, that’s certainly NOT the case for the Irish. This team has everything to lose, while the Orange are hoping to add another upset to the resume.
In a game featuring two explosive offenses on a huge stage at Yankee Stadium, this should be one for the ages. Both sides also feature explosive quarterbacks in Eric Dungey and Ian Book, this should be a game where you likely take the over, regardless of what it is.
To get a better scope of this matchup, we sat down with ‘Slap the Sign’ who is our FanSided sister network covering all things Notre Dame. Site Expert JP Scott answered five burning questions heading into this game for our weekly ‘Behind Enemy Lines’ segment, enjoy!

Inside the creation of a football field at Yankee Stadium (DO; Schafer)
Less than an inch of grass will separate the 2018 iteration of a football field at Yankee Stadium from those of years’ past. In the last 13 games housed in the stadium, since its 2009 opening, football programs played on what DeLea Sod Farm owner Rick DeLea described as short cut grass.
DeLea’s short product, normally suited for the Yankees outfield, New York City Football Club soccer games or tee boxes on golf courses around the country, is too short for football, he said. It doesn’t have the stability for the wear and tear from the “Clydesdales,” as DeLea describes football players.
So this year, as skepticism of playing on the soccer grass rose, DeLea outsourced to Tuckahoe Turf Farms in Hammonton, New Jersey, a company which supplies five NFL teams.
“If that’s what it takes to put the right product in, for this instance, for the football game,” DeLea said, “that’s what we’re doing just to make sure the Yankees got the right field going on there.”
On Saturday afternoon, when No. 12 Syracuse (8-2, 6-2 Atlantic Coast) and No. 3 Notre Dame (10-0) walk out of their respective dugouts, a professional grade football field will span more than 50,000 square feet from home plate deep into the outfield. At the center, an estimated 35-by-45 foot Shamrock Series emblem will pop out of the grass. Field goal post netting dropped in by cranes will bookend the freshly groomed playing surface. And in Syracuse’s first top 15 matchup in 20 years, the labor of love will be one fit for the moment.

Syracuse fullback Chris Elmore is driven by his best friend’s death (DO; Gutierrez)
The first indication that something had gone wrong on Monday, Sept. 8, 2014, came shortly after 8 a.m.
Chris Elmore began his sophomore year of high school the same way he had many others, by going to class and starring on the local football team. As Elmore strolled into his first period of the day at Wendell Phillips Academy (Illinois), he noticed a student walk out of a classroom. The room was dark.
Elmore peeked inside, where everybody had their head down. He asked what had happened. A classmate informed him his best friend had died in a fire. His heart sank. Elmore knew a lot about Carliysia Clark’s life, from its beginning — she was born May 8, 1999, two weeks before him — to the details of its final moments. He called her mom “mom.” He and her father, Carl, still FaceTime frequently. Elmore knew Carliysia had always been generous, smart, funny, kind and positive.

Jamal Custis’ career is dedicated to creating a better life for his mother Jeanette (DO; Liberman)
The basketball hoop hanging on the living room door could barely take any more damage. Dunk after dunk rattled the backboard against the top of the door. Still, each night, Jamal, Sharif and Kadeem Custis rocked the rim, leaping across the living room furniture to avoid the imaginary defenders lurking.
Outside Custis’ home on 31st and Napa St., gunshots rang through the air. But the three brothers played on.
“We were used to it,” Sharif said. “We heard it every day. After a while it didn’t really phase us. We knew how our neighborhood was. The best thing to do was stay out of the way. Stay off the streets. When the sun goes down, go in the house.”
In one of Philadelphia’s poorest and most violent districts, Jamal Custis’ family, struck by tragedy, turned to their household and sport for a foundation. Custis, now 23, is having a career year in the midst of No. 12 Syracuse’s (8-2, 5-2 Atlantic Coast) best season since 2001. After battling injuries early in his career, he leads SU in receiving yards and has become one of the best special teams players in the country, Babers said.

Syracuse Orange v. Notre Dame Fighting Irish Predictions - The Juice Online (the juice; Staff)
Syracuse heads into one of its biggest matchups in recent history, as it plays No. 3 Notre Dame at a neutral field at Yankee Stadium on Saturday at 2:30 p.m. Ahead of the game, The Juice Online’s Brad Bierman and Wes Cheng gave their predictions for the game.
BRAD BIERMAN (Season Predictions, 8-2): Ah, there’s nothing like a good old fashioned starting quarterback discussion. Right, Orange Nation?
Wasn’t it not even a month ago that we were debating Eric Dungey vs. Tommy DeVito before Syracuse faced North Carolina State? We all know how that’s turned out, a four game winning streak under Dungey’s continued excellence his senior season heading into Saturday’s Notre Dame game at Yankee Stadium (2:30 p.m. ET – NBC/Sirius XM).
Now it’s the Irish that have been juggling quarterbacks with Brandon Wimbush the season starter, replaced by Ian Book in week four, only to have Book suffer a rib injury two weeks ago against Northwestern. Wimbush led Notre Dame to its route of Florida State last week with a three touchdown output, but Book is expected to be cleared to start Saturday.
No matter the ND quarterback, he’ll have a bevy of talented receivers, so the Orange defense will have to continue its improved play as the season’s progressed by clamping down in the secondary and key on the Irish running game which has percolated since Dexter Williams returned from a university-imposed four game suspension to start the year (he ran for 202 yards against FSU).

Notre Dame Shares Photo Of Yankee Stadium Field For Syracuse Game (thespun.com; Hladik)
Notre Dame’s annual “Shamrock Series” goes to the Big Apple this weekend. The Fighting Irish will play Syracuse at Yankee Stadium on Saturday.
Given how many Notre Dame alums and “Subway Alumni” are in the New York area, expect the park to be filled with Fighting Irish supporters. It should be a fun environment with a lot at stake.
Earlier today, Notre Dame football’s official Twitter account shared a photo of the field, which is being prepared for Saturday.
Syracuse Stands in the Way of Notre Dame's College Football Playoff Push - Stadium (watchstadium.com; Wittry)
You could make the case that the biggest game of Week 12 is being held at Yankee Stadium, a four-hour drive for the fans of No. 12 Syracuse.
College football fans may have laughed at that sentence in August, but now the Orange could be the second-best opponent — after Michigan — on Notre Dame’s schedule, which includes games against Stanford, USC, Florida State and Virginia Tech. Those are obviously bigger football brands than Syracuse, but it’s the basketball school from upstate New York that is arguably the ACC’s next-best team after Clemson.
With a high-scoring offense and its only losses coming on the road by a touchdown or less against ACC division leaders Clemson and Pittsburgh, ‘Cuse should be treated as a legitimate threat to the Fighting Irish’s College Football Playoff hopes.
The Orange’s No. 12 ranking is the school’s highest since 1998, and they could be in the midst of their best season since they went 10-3 and won the Insight Bowl in 2001.
Although Notre Dame is favored by 10.5 points in Vegas, there’s a way in which Clemson could pull off the upset and shake up the top of the College Football Playoff rankings.
Syracuse has offense and lots of it
The Orange are seventh nationally in scoring offense at 44.4 points per game. That’s more than both Ohio State and West Virginia, a pair of teams led by quarterbacks who are in the Heisman Trophy conversation, and just over a point less than Clemson.
Syracuse is 27th in rushing offense (216 yards/game) and 37th in passing offense (266 yards/game), a combination that gives the Orange the 14th-best offensive yardage per game in the country.

Clelin Ferrell’s pass-rushing prowess has helped put No. 2 Clemson on the cusp of its fourth consecutive Atlantic Coast Conference championship and another berth in the College Football Playoff.
The 6-foot-4, 265-pound junior end isn’t the only Tiger thriving on a stingy defensive front four where he and Austin Bryant bookend tackles Dexter Lawrence and Christian Wilkins.
The ACC is littered with defensive playmakers all around the league.
Florida State’s Brian Burns, Boston College’s Wyatt Ray and Syracuse’s Alton Robinson are tied for eighth in sacks with nine each. That’s just a half-sack more than Ferrell, who’s confident his total will rise over the final two weeks of the season.
“There’s two things a defensive lineman always knows: How much he bench presses and how many sacks he has,” said Ferrell, adding that he has pressed 405 pounds. “I’m at 8½ (sacks) right now. The year’s going well, but I feel like there’s another level I can take it to for my teammates.”
Sacks aren’t the only category where ACC players are making their presence felt.
Boston College’s Hamp Cheevers is tied for first with six interceptions and leads a three-man ACC contingent in the top five. Virginia’s Juan Thornhill and Syracuse’s Andre Cisco are tied for third with five picks each.

Sciria: Notre Dame joins Syracuse in tossing tradition aside with NY Yankee-inspired unforms (auburnpub.com; Sciria)
If you're a faithful reader of this column, first, thank you for reading. Then, you may remember a few years ago when I panned the new Syracuse University football uniforms.
Syracuse always had a great tradition of sharp-looking jerseys and the plain orange helmet stood out. But then Nike decided to exert its influence and now the Orange's jerseys look like something a preschooler designed (sorry kids). The numbers especially look like something a child did while learning how to write numbers.
Now some of you may love the Orange's current uniform set. They boast white, blue, orange and gray jersey and pant sets so there's a lot of variety. Nike's approach has proved popular with some of the younger and maybe even some older fans.
This older fan however still dislikes them and hopes someone wakes up and tells Nike that Syracuse should return to its classic 1980s-2000s look. If Alabama, Penn State and USC can keep their traditional uniforms, why can't Syracuse?

Syracuse-Notre Dame matchup headlines ACC's 12th week (pilotonline.com; AP)
Things to watch in the Atlantic Coast Conference in Week 12:
GAME OF THE WEEK
No. 12 Syracuse vs. No. 3 Notre Dame. Coach Dino Babers' Orange (8-2, 5-2, No. 12 CFP) have been the surprise story of the season in the ACC, making a case for a New Year's Six bowl berth after being picked in the preseason to finish last in the Atlantic Division. With QB Eric Dungey leading the league's second-highest-scoring offense (44.4 ppg), Syracuse will head to Yankee Stadium trying to knock the Fighting Irish (10-0) out of College Football Playoff position.

Notre Dame’s Opponents: Rise of Pittsburgh, Northwestern, Syracuse (irishnbcsports.comn; Farmer)
Welcome to a world where Northwestern and possibly Pittsburgh contend for conference championships while Virginia Tech, Florida State and USC have work to do to even be eligible for a bowl game. Welcome to a year in which No. 12 Syracuse is one of only three Irish opponents currently ranked. Welcome once again to Notre Dame’s schedule frustrations of 2018.
Michigan (9-1): Bookmakers predicted the Wolverines would beat Rutgers 43-6, so the actual 42-7 victory goes to show just how little Vegas knows. Michigan rattled off 35 unanswered points after giving up an 80-yard touchdown run in the first quarter.
Expect more of the same from the Wolverines this weekend, favored by 28.5 against Indiana (4 ET; FS1). A combined point total over/under of 53.5 suggests a 41-13 finish, but who would ever trust Vegas to properly handicap these things?
Ball St. (4-7): The Cardinals came out of their off week with a 42-41 overtime victory against Western Michigan on Tuesday. That win alone may cool Mike Neu’s seat this winter.
Vanderbilt (4-6): A 33-28 loss at Missouri puts the Commodores in a tough spot as far as bowl eligibility goes. The two-touchdown underdogs won the turnover battle 2-0 and did not trail until the final nine minutes, but Vanderbilt just could not pull off the surprise.
As a result, the ‘Dores need to finish 2-0 against Mississippi (7:30 ET; SEC Network) and Tennessee. Vanderbilt is favored by 2.5 points this weekend, and likely will be next, as well. For an SEC game, the 66.5 over/under stands out, projecting a 35-32 result.

College football: Syracuse’s Dungey to play in home of his heroes while looking to beat Notre Dame (ogd.com; St Croix)
Syracuse University football quarterback Eric Dungey will check an item off his bucket list when he makes his first visit to Yankee Stadium on Saturday, but the senior is focused on the endeavor as a business trip.
The nationally-ranked No. 12 Orange (8-2 overall) will face unbeaten No. 3 Notre Dame (10-0) in a marquee nonconference matchup at 2:30 p.m. Saturday in The Bronx, set to be televised on NBC.
Dungey grew up in Lake Oswego, Oregon, as a diehard fan of the New York Yankees and is eager for the experience to walk into Yankee Stadium for the first time before he leads SU into its largest national spotlight in decades.
“I’ve never been to Yankee Stadium and I’ve always wanted to go watch a game over there but it was tough coming from Oregon, so I’m really looking forward to it,” Dungey said. “My mom is from New York and that’s one of those teams that I really grew up loving. Derek Jeter has been one of my favorite athletes of all time so it’s going to be a really cool experience and I’m going to take it all in when I get there.”
Dungey said that he began to admire former N.Y. Yankees shortstop Derek Jeter when he was in third grade, and has since tried to wear a No. 2 jersey in every sport he has played in honor of “The Captain.”
“It’s going to be a really cool experience to play there but we’re going up against one of the best teams in the country and have a good opportunity to play against them, so we’re going to go make the most of it,” Dungey said.

Week 12 ACC football power poll (dailyprogress.com; Counts)
1. Clemson 10-0/7-0 (1): Saturday’s dominant victory over Boston College clinched No. 2 Clemson its fourth straight berth in the ACC Championship Game. The Tigers have won the last three conference titles. The Tigers knocked Boston College quarterback Anthony Brown out of the game and held running back A.J. Dillon to 39 yards in a 27-7 win. Clemson sacked the Eagles’ quarterbacks four times and racked up 10 tackles for a loss. Next: vs. Duke, 7 p.m., Saturday
2. Syracuse 8-2/5-2 (2): No. 12 Syracuse was the latest team to victimize Louisville. Quarterback Eric Dungey combined for three touchdowns and running back Moe Neal put up 159 rushing yards and a pair of touchdowns in a 54-23 victory. Dungey is second in the ACC with 2,883 yards of offense, and he has accounted for 26 total touchdowns. The Orange have won four in a row and scored at least 40 points in each game. ACC Football Rx: Has Pitt Football paid off for the ACC? (accfootballrx.com; HM)
I saw a stat today which shocked me, to be honest. It's number of ACC conference wins since the 2014 expansion for each ACC Coastal team. Want to see it?
Team | W | L |
Pittsburgh | 23 | 15 |
Miami | 22 | 22 |
Virginia Tech | 21 | 18 |
Georgia Tech | 19 | 21 |
North Carolina | 19 | 21 |
Duke | 16 | 22 |
Virginia | 14 | 24 |
Raise your hand if you knew Pitt had the best W-L record in the Coastal since 2014. (Put your hands down, you liars!). I was blown away! First, that Miami has one more win that Virginia Tech, but even more so that Pitt has more wins than either of them - and four more wins than Georgia Tech!
Speaking of GT, who knew they were tied with UNC for 4th in conference wins?
Just listening to the "talking heads" you'd think that Duke and Pitt were reversed. I think that's because Duke has more non-conference wins... but then, they don't play the same level of OOC competition, either. (No surprise to see Virginia in last place - prior to this year, the Cavaliers just haven't been very good at football).
MIND BLOWN.
BOTTOM LINE: Pitt is a football school, and if they go on to win the Coastal division this year...
H2P!
Football travels to face Georgia Tech and the option offense (cavalierdaily.com; Zamoff)
After cruising past Liberty Saturday, Virginia football has a challenging matchup this Saturday in a return to conference play.
The Cavaliers (7-3, 4-2 ACC) will travel to Atlanta to take on Georgia Tech (6-4, 4-3 ACC) in a bid to keep their hopes alive for the ACC Coastal Division title.
Last year, the matchup between the two conference foes ended in spectacular fashion for Virginia. On a cold, rainy day at Scott Stadium, the Cavaliers came out on top in a shootout, 40-36. The win made them bowl-eligible for the first time since 2011, a big milestone for Coach Bronco Mendenhall’s “New Standard” mantra.
This year, Virginia is already bowl-eligible and clinched a winning season with its victory over Liberty Saturday, another program milestone.

Here's how we could get the Backyard Brawl or Penn State-West Virginia in a bowl game (post-gazette.com; Bittner)
Pitt is going to a bowl game. Which one depends on how its last two regular-season games, plus a possible ACC championship appearance, play out.
The opponent the Panthers will face is even more unsettled, but their run to within a game of the Coastal Division title does create one obvious question: Is a Backyard Brawl meeting with West Virginia in the cards? And what about a Penn State-West Virginia matchup? Is that on the radar?
Yes. Maybe. Here are the paths, ranked by likelihood, to seeing one of these old Eastern rivalries renewed in college football’s postseason.
1. Penn State and West Virginia make the New Year’s Six as at-large selections.
We saw this matchup predicted three times in our weekly compilation of bowl projections by national outlets. But how would it come to be?

The Hops Spot: Savory poutine and burgers, plus room for the kids (Dining Out Review) (PS; Paventi)
Poutine is a dish best served with beer. The Hops Spot in Armory Square honors the French-Canadian culinary contribution and raises the ante by pairing nine different variations of it with a rotating tap list of more than 40 beers, both of which was enough to keep us satiated on a recent Saturday evening visit.
Even better: We didn't have to hire a sitter. The Hops Spot has a dedicated play area for kids, complete with toys and a monitor showing animated movies. This kind of hospitality is long-overdue in downtown dining and was a hit with all ages in our party. It made up for sporadic service -- as did those fries with gravy and nearly everything else we sampled.
The Hops Spot is new to Syracuse, but owners Ryan and and Cheryl Chaif have been working on this concept for years at their original home in Sackets Harbor. The seasonal restaurant operated in the historic village from 2011 to 2017. The Syracuse location opened in July 2018.
Each poutine order serves as an adequate starter for two or a small meal for one. Classique ($9.79) is The Hops Spot's interpretation of the traditional poutine: a layer of hand-cut fries topped with beef gravy and melted cheese curd. The rich, homemade flavor of the gravy tasted more like it accompanied a classic comfort food, such as pot roast or roast beef, rather than diner-style gravy fries. The curds were just melted and added a little extra salt to each bite.
