Welcome to National Crab Rangoon Day!

So it’s the day before Valentine’s Day and every single girl is cursing the day—but why?! It’s National Crab Rangoon Day! So, it’s time to get together with your girlfriends to celebrate this peculiar holiday that is strategically placed on the eve of “Single Awareness Day.”

For those of you who have deprived yourselves of this Chinese-American treat, here’s what you need to know: Crab Rangoon are deep-fried, cream cheese and crab-stuffed dumplings. Understandable if that doesn’t sound all that appealing to you, but try one! And you won’t be stopping there—trust me.

Rang Day actually originated in Boston by Kara Sweeney, Sarah White, and Kristin Ostrem who decided there should be a day to cherish the deep-friend dumplings. The three Boston friends decided that people who were not in a relationship should still have something to look forward to around Valentine’s Day. As such, they deemed February 13th as the day to celebrate “the rang” and enjoy time with friends to make Valentine’s Day fun even if you are single.

Syracuse Football: Tale of the tape on DE transfer Jeffery Gunter (itlh.com; Carey)

The Syracuse football squad has delved into the transfer portal and came away with a pretty talented surprise on the defensive line.

The Syracuse University football program got more good news on Monday when Jeffery Gunter announced his intention to transfer to the Orange.

Gunter, a defensive end from Durham, North Carolina stands 6-foot-4 and weighs 255-pounds. He has the size already to play defensive end at the ACC level. What Syracuse fans should be more excited for, is the numbers and accolades that Gunter has put up.

Last season as a sophomore at Coastal Carolina, Gunter was named first-team All-Sun Belt. He racked up 49 tackles, including 14 for a loss and five sacks. Gunter also blocked a kick and forced one fumble on the season. In 2017, as a freshman, Gunter played in all 12 games and recorded 26 tackles, 3.5 of which, came for a loss.

Gunter was rated a two-star prospect by 247sports.com, coming out of high school. But that shows how imperfect of a system recruiting rankings are. After announcing his intention to transfer, Gunter received an offer from Tulane. He also received heavy interest from North Carolina, North Carolina State, Minnesota, and Oregon.

Coastal Carolina is losing two of its best football players to ACC programs (myrtlebeachonline.com; Blondin)

Coastal Carolina is losing two key football players to Atlantic Coast Conference schools, according to reports and social media posts.

Sophomore defensive end Jeffrey Gunter is transferring to Syracuse, according to The Daily Orange and Cusenation.com, while sophomore offensive lineman Brock Hoffman is transferring to Virginia Tech, according to Twitter posts on his account and the Virginia Tech Football account.

They are two of the four Coastal players who entered the NCAA Transfer Portal this offseason, and will be big losses.

Gunter was a First Team All-Sun Belt Conference selection after this past season – the only Chanticleer named to either the conference’s first or second teams – and Hoffman has started all 24 Coastal games since he enrolled at the school. He started at center as a freshman and guard as a sophomore.

Syracuse Football: Top 10 players that should have their jerseys retired (itlh.com; Esden Jr)

The Syracuse football squad needs to retire several more jerseys that have been eligible for a very long time. Here’s who has been wronged.

With the recent news of Syracuse football legend Tim Green finally getting his jersey retired, it got us thinking? Who else in Syracuse lore deserves to have their jersey hanging in the rafters?

Only six individuals have had (or will have in Green’s case) the honor of seeing their jersey hang from the top of the Carrier Dome:

Larry Csonka (No. 39)
John Mackey (No. 88)
Donovan McNabb (No. 5)
Don McPherson (No. 9)
Joe Morris (No. 47)
Tim Green (No. 72)

On top of those six individuals listed above, 25 different players have had the distinct honor of wearing the famed No. 44 jersey including but not limited too: Jim Brown, Floyd Little, and Ernie Davis.

Syracuse has been around for 129 years, that’s a long time, and we feel several Syracuse football legends have slipped through the cracks and deserve to be honored for their collegiate and pro accomplishments.

We dug through the history books, reviewed the tape, and we boiled our list down to the top 10 Syracuse football players who deserve to have their jerseys retired. Check out our list below and then share your thoughts! Do you agree? Disagree? Who got snubbed?

https://www.independentmail.com/sto...chance-alliance-american-football/2829741002/ (independentmail.com; Robinson)

There is now a remedy for the epidemic that spreads through the South every February.

Folks would wake up the morning after the Super Bowl showing the first symptoms of Football Withdrawal Syndrome, knowing that the next games would not be played until August.

The Alliance of American Football has shortened that dreaded wait from six months to six days.

The professional league debuted Saturday night, less than one week after the Super Bowl. The AAF comprises eight teams and will play a 10-week regular-season schedule.

The AAF aims to become a developmental system for the National Football League. Most of its players are alums of major college programs, including at least one player from 13 of the 14 Atlantic Coast Conference schools.

Defensive end Tavaris Barnes is the only former Clemson player listed on an AAF roster. Barnes played on Clemson's defensive front from 2011 to 2014, behind Vic Beasley and Corey Crawford.

Barnes signed a free agent deal with the New Orleans Saints in 2015. He appeared in 13 games that season, but he has not played in another NFL game. He signed with Seattle, Washington and Tampa Bay in subsequent seasons but cycled from the practice squad to injured reserve.

ACC Football Rx: Should Willie Taggart be on the Hot Seat yet? (RX; HM)

From Chopchat: Why Willie Taggart should NOT be on hot seat in 2019

Since the season finale loss to Florida, Taggart has been ridiculed by seemingly everyone who covers the sport... Here are the three reasons why Taggart should not be on the hot seat during the 2019 season:

1. Signing Day Success

FSU football achieved plenty of success getting players at positions of need in 2019 signing class [namely offensive line and secondary]... Detractors of Taggart seem to ignore that fact just to focus on how no quarterback was recruited for a second straight season after the defection of Sam Howell and Lance LeGendre going to Maryland – only realizing that QB wasn’t a position of need until three days before signing day after Taggart made the right move to dismiss Deondre Francois.

Would you rather start with a quarterback but no offensive line - like Fisher had - or with an offensive line but no quarterback? Of course you want both, but QB is just one player - and easier to recruit if he has a strong OL to stand behind.

2. Still Cleaning up Fisher's mess

...let us not act like this was a team that Taggart drove into the ground. This was a team who, just one season before, only became eligible for a bowl game because it beat three FBS teams (Syracuse, UF and a makeup game against Louisiana Monroe) that had a combined record of 13-22…along with a FCS team in Delaware State that had won five of their previous 50 games... FSU football family need to stop thinking [Taggart] was handed the 2013 national championship team...

Well put... and I might remind you readers that FSU had to schedule and play the ULM game on ACC Championship day in 2017 just to be bowl-eligible... that's the team Taggart inherited.

3. Unreasonable Expectations

Boat Show, Cinderella, Winterfest: 14 things to do in CNY this weekend (PS; Pucci)

A couple who throws axes together, stays together. That, and much more to do this Valentine's Day weekend in Central New York.

CNY Boat Show

Sure, people are still ice fishing, but you can look ahead to the warmer months at the annual Central New York Boat Show. This display will showcase more than 500 boats across three buildings.

Where: New York State Fairgrounds, 581 State Fair Blvd., Geddes.

How much: Admission is $10 for adults for the whole weekend. Children ages 13 and under are free. Admission is free on Thursday.

Native Gardens

This satirical comedy about two neighboring couples--one a young lawyer and a doctoral student, the other an older bureaucrat and a defense contractor--and the few feet of disputed property that joins their backyard is, what the Los Angeles Times called, a "sitcom for the stage."

The show runs from Feb. 13 to March 3.

Jon Dore

The Canadian-born comic, fresh off the release of his Comedy Central special "Big Questions, Huge Answers with Jon Dore," in December, is coming to Syracuse for what should be an outstanding weekend of stand-up.

Where: Syracuse Funny Bone, 10301 Destiny USA Drive, Syracuse.
When: Thursday, Feb. 14, at 7:30 p.m.; Friday, Feb. 15, at 7:30 and 10 p.m. and Saturday, Feb. 16, at 7 and 9:45 p.m.

Larry Csonka (No. 39) and Donovan McNabb (No. 5) should be NO BRAINERS to have their jerseys retired.
Don McPherson (No. 9) should at least be honored as a coach if not as as player. Come on, Cuse!!!!

When was Don McPherson a coach?

LOL, I was thinking of Dick MacPherson... should've stuck with Csonka and McNabb.
Of course, but that list above was of the players who have already had their jerseys retired.
