Taking place on the last Thursday before Ash Wednesday, which begins Lent, Fat Thursday is a Christian feast that is primarily celebrated in European countries. It is similar to Fat Tuesday, which is celebrated the following week, but in many European countries, it is the more important holiday of the two. It also is associated with Carnival. As much fasting is done during Lent, Fat Thursday is a day for getting together and eating sweets and other foods that are eschewed during that season. Commonly eaten foods include pączki, berliners, and angel wings.

Michigan football gets commitment from 2020 Baltimore OL Micah Mazzccua (freep.com; Sang)
Micah Mazzccua, a 2020 offensive lineman from Baltimore, Md., announced his commitment to Michigan football in a statement posted to Twitter on Monday.
"Blessed to say I am verbally committed to the University of Michigan," Mazzccua wrote.

Mazzccua is a 3-star prospect, according to 247Sports, the No. 800 overall recruit and the 86th-ranked offensive tackle.
Mazzccua's reported offers include Maryland, Syracuse, Virginia Tech and Temple.
The 6-foot-5, 289-pound standout attends St. Frances Academy in Baltimore and is coached by Biff Poggi, a former Michigan staffer and the father of former U-M fullback Henry Poggi. Michigan has reportedly offered over a dozen of Mazzccua's teammates. The Wolverines received a verbal commitment from Osman Savage, a 4-star linebacker at St. Frances, on Jan. 25.
Michigan has seven commitments in its 2020 class, which ranks No. 10 in the nation and No. 2 in the Big Ten.

Oregon commit, Seven McGee, the nation's No. 2 running back, just gave Ducks football fans a glimpse of the future.
In the Pylon 7-on-7 tournament held near Las Vegas, Nevada this weekend, the 5-foot-9, 175-pound ball carrier showed off his speed, agility and elite playmaking abilities as a receiver while finishing in the top-4 of the tournament.
McGee was so impressive that Brandon Huffman of 247Sports named him to the 247 All-Pylon 7on7 Nevada Dream Team, which is quite the honor considering the tournament had more than 100 teams with many of the top prospects in the West.
"The Oregon commit is very quick and explosive with the ball in his hands, does a great job getting open and finding the soft spots in the defense and was the go-to receiver while playing for a new team, Phase I 702 Elite out of Las Vegas," Huffman said.

Syracuse football loves their 2019 class. They feel they've done a great job bringing in talent and depth since Dino Babers' arrival after the 2015 season. That has helped the roster reshape, leading to the resurgent 10-3 2018 campaign. The task now is to take that success, continue it on the field while taking recruiting to an even higher level. That is the Orange's goal for the 2020 class. Dino Babers said as much during the 2019 National Signing Day press conference and the staff is operating that way internally.

Over the past 11 months, Pitt has lost a trio of tight ends who would’ve been eligible this coming season. Tuesday, the ACC program saw its depth at the position bolstered.
On his personal Twitter account, Nakia Griffin-Stewart announced that he has committed to continuing his collegiate playing career at Pitt. Griffin-Stewart had decided earlier this offseason to transfer from Rutgers.
As a graduate transfer, Griffin-Stewart will be eligible to play immediately in 2019. The upcoming season will serve as the tight end’s final year of eligibility.

The "ice house" phenomenon is an unfortunate fact of life in Upstate New York during the winter.
Blistering Lake Ontario winds create massive waves that pummel the lake shore, and spray beach homes, coating them with inches, sometimes even feet of ice.
This home, in Pulaski, is the latest victim of the phenomenon. The photo below was shared by Natalie Kucko, a reporter with WWNY-TV.
The photo was first shared by Liverpool resident Berta Smith, 57, who shared this note along with her post:
"This is my friend's summer home at Ramona Beach Road in Pulaski NY on Lake Ontario. Camp is under 4 feet of ice. My heart is broken. Many memories on this beach I grew up on. The high water levels are awful. Something needs to be done. 50 years of living there nothing like this never happened. We lived there year round and never had this happen."
She also shared this side by side comparison, showing what the camp looks like during the summer.
