Welcome to National Pig Day!

National Pig Day honors the domesticated pig. According to Mary Lynne Rave, who started National Pig Day with her sister Ellen Stanley in 1972, the purpose of the day is "to accord to the pig its rightful, though generally unrecognized, place as one of man's most intellectual and domesticated animals." Events where pigs are the focus are held at zoos, schools, farms, sporting events, and nursing homes across the United States, particularly in the Midwest. Some activities include having pig-themed parties where pink colored punch and pork are served, and pink ribbon pigtails are tied around trees. Pig-themed parades also are common. Some have interpreted the day as being a time to give pigs a break by not eating pork products, but others say it is the perfect day for eating bacon, ham, or pork chops.

Boston College football: AJ Dillon has healthy outlook for spring ball – Boston Herald (bostonherald.com; Thompson)

AJ Dillon is participating in spring football pain free and emotionally charged.

Boston College’s two-time All-ACC running back covered a lot of ground from multiple formations during Day 3 of the team-building exercises on Thursday morning inside the Fish Field House.

“I’m feeling good and happy to be back,” Dillon said. “I’m trying to be as healthy as I can be and I really understand about taking care of my body going into my third year.

“I’m excited and ready to compete.”

There is a lot more involved in Dillon’s understated outlook. Dillon would qualify for a case study of an athlete performing at high level despite an unrelenting injury that was his constant companion over the final five ACC games in 2018.

Dillon was a first-year phenom in 2017 when he set the school record for rushing yards (1,589) by a freshman, which was seventh nationally and second in the league behind Louisville quarterback Lamar Jackson, the 2016 Heisman Trophy winner.

Virginia Tech football: Hokies move back start of spring practice (gobblercountry.com; Manning)

For all of you hoping for some spring football to tide you over until the season, you’ll have to wait a little bit longer. On Thursday, the Virginia Tech Hokies announced they would delay the start of spring practice by 17 days. Spring practice was set to open on Sunday, March 3, now it will begin on March 20.

ACC Football Rx: My way too early win projections (RX; HM)

March is here... time to seriously start making predictions for the upcoming season.

Based on JHowell's 2019 preseason power ratings, here are my "way too early" win-loss predictions:

Atlantic Wins Losses Losing to...
Clemson 12 0 no one
NC State 11 1 Clemson
Syracuse 10 2 Clemson, NC State
Florida St 6 6 Boise St, Miami, NC State, Syracuse, Clemson, Florida
Boston Col 5 7 VT, Clemson, ND, NC State, Syracuse, FSU, Pitt
Wake Forest 4 8 Utah St, Clemson, NC State, Syracuse, VT, Duke, FSU, BC
Louisville 2 10 everybody but E. and W. Kentucky.

Coastal Wins Losses Losing to...
Miami 11 1 Florida
Va Tech 10 2 Miami, Notre Dame
Duke 7 5 Alabama, Notre Dame, Miami, Syracuse, Va Tech
Pitt 6 6 Penn St, UCF, Miami, Syracuse, Va Tech, Duke
Ga Tech 5 7 Clemson, Miami, NC State, VT, Duke, Pitt, Georgia
UVA 5 7 Notre Dame, Miami, FSU, Duke, Pitt, GT, VT
UNC 1 11 everybody but Mercer (ouch!)

ACC Football Rx: 2019 Florida State Preview (RX; HM)

Based on early preseason computer power ratings, here are my game-by-game predictions for how the Seminoles' 2019 football season will go...

Boise St Loss
LA Monroe Win
@ Virginia Win
Louisville Win
NC State Loss
@ Clemson Loss
@ Wake Forest lean towards Win
Syracuse lean towards Loss
Miami (FL) Loss
@ Boston Col. Toss up
Alabama St Win
@ Florida Loss

So if things go chalk the Noles will finish 6-6... but when does college football ever go chalk?

I figure there are going to be 3 very close games for the Seminoles: Wake Forest, Syracuse and Boston College. Sweep those and FSU ends up 7-5. NC State comes to Tallahassee, so that game's probably winnable, too.

__________

From FBSchedules: UConn, Boston College swap sites for football games in 2022, 2023

The UConn Huskies and the Boston College Eagles will still play on the same dates, they've simply swapped the sites of their football games in 2022 and 2023. The 2022 game will now be played in East Hartford, CT, while the 2023 game will now be played in Chestnut Hill, MA.

This change benefits both schools: for UConn, it splits up its Power Five non-conference opponents - now the Huskies will host BC in 2022 and NC State in 2023 (instead of both in 2023).

Boston College will also have a more balanced non-conference schedule, with two home games (Rutgers and UMass) in 2022, along with two road games (UConn and Notre Dame). Previously OOC the Eagles only had one away and no home non-conference games for 2023, but is now set to host UConn that season.

On the hunt for CNY's best fish fry: Jim's Fish Fry (PS; Pucci)

We're hitting the road to find Central New York's best fish fry. We tallied all the nominations and named our four finalists. On Thursday, we made our fourth and final of the search at Jim's Fish Fry in Syracuse. Judging the Best of CNY fish fry are: Jacob Pucci and Charlie Miller from syracuse.com and longtime restaurateur Bob Corning.

As the judges visit each finalist, the public can vote on which restaurant the readers' choice award.

In the meantime, here's a look at our trip so far with a few details of our meals. Our full reviews will come when we announce the winners on Friday, March 1.

Jim's Fish Fry

The fish at Jim's is all haddock, delivered several times a week from Boston-based Channel Fish Co. The fish is breaded in a cracker-meal based breading that's lighter than the flour- or breadcrumb-based breadings you'll find elsewhere. The fish is fried in cholesterol-free soybean oil.

The fish is served skin-on, which Easterly said adds firmness and integrity to the fillet. However, it can be served skinless upon request.

The dinner ($11.99), comes with two sides. Pictured here are onions rings, piled atop a heaping portion of macaroni salad.

So Hokie Mark why would VT postpone the start of Spring Practice by two weeks when it looks like most of the programs in the conference have already started practice or about to start?

All of these way to early projections make me scratch my head. NCST lost the entirety of their offense and yet still 11-1 when they have had 1 ten win season ever. They had a 5th year QB last year and still couldn’t hit 10 wins. What makes them think they can do it now.

Stuck out to me as well. State has only won double digit games once in their history...this is not the year they meet that.

Same here. It seems that many sport's writers have the impression that NC State is a better team than us. The bottom line is that it will take at least another successful season to get most people to buy in that Syracuse football is back.
There was another thread this week where someone listed us as darkhorse contenders for the playoff. Some of the comments to that article (not our forum comments) irked me - people laughing at the possibility of SU making the playoff. While I find that annoying I guess it is somewhat understandable. To the majority of fanbases out there outside of the ACC, we are a basketball school who is mediocre at best at football. I'll be so glad when that perception changes - and it WILL change.

Perception is reality. You can imagine, for example, recruiters at other schools saying "Yeah, they were good last year, but you know they were 4 - 8 the previous two years." Same is true for sports writers, etc. Need consistency to be considered the equal of NC State.

That's a fact! The ACC is like a caged beast reAdy to break out! Lol. There's alot of potential and the ACCN is the cherry on top taking us to the top . FSU will always be factor cause the talent n lets hope taggerts the guy but not so sure. Miami of course same thing get the right guy in there and there goin str8 to the top. VT, UNC, NC
ST,even Virginia with there coach has them in the right direction! If he could win at BYU HE could definitely win here. Pitts a dark horse cause of the high school talent in there backyard.
So long story short I wanna see the ACC get to its peak where it should be especially THE CUSE!!! THE FUTURE LOOKS BRIGHT ALL THE WAY AROUND

I think before we became a basketball school it was fair to say we were a football school and the era where alot of our legends come from!
TO ur point and its valid it will most likely take more than 1 great season to change the perception but we definitely made them think and opened alot of eyes and another winning season with the talent we have brought in we can surpass in my opinion what we did last season as long aS devito is who we think he can be.
The media will have no choice at that point and lucky for us I think lol we have alot a fans in sports media. It's just unfortunate that the media even in sports has alot a motives but I'll leave politics out lol ur welcome
THE CUSE WILL BE RIGHT THERE! I have no doubt in babers. Orange bowl LETS GO

The second adjustment to the targeting rule deals with the instant replay review. Instant replay officials will be directed to examine all aspects of the play and confirm the foul when all elements of targeting are present. If any element of targeting cannot be confirmed, then the replay official will overturn the targeting foul. There will not be an option for letting the call on the field stand during a targeting review.

What are they trying to say here? The way I read it (or the way they worded it), if they call targeting and then go to instant replay, the targeting call can't stand. And that can't be what they mean, right?

Previously, they could overturn an ejection but the penalty still stood. Now if they overturn the ejection, the penalty is also overturned. At least that's how I interpret it but I could be wrong.

So Hokie Mark why would VT postpone the start of Spring Practice by two weeks when it looks like most of the programs in the conference have already started practice or about to start?

Two reasons: (1) too many injured players - the team will benefit from 2 more weeks to heal; (2) the original schedule would've been broken up by Spring Break, but this way it's all after the students return from break.

I guess I can understand the injured players but not Spring Break. I think many of the schools have the break during Spring Practice.

Had that been the only reason they probably wouldn't have moved it (as evidenced by the fact that they knew when Spring Break was when they scheduled Spring practice). I think it was just an additional justification to place beside the injuries - which were the main reason.
