According to Mary Lynne Rave, who started National Pig Day with her sister Ellen Stanley in 1972, the purpose of the day is "to accord to the pig its rightful, though generally unrecognized, place as one of man's most intellectual and domesticated animals." Events where pigs are the focus are held at zoos, schools, farms, sporting events, and nursing homes across the United States, particularly in the Midwest. Some activities include having pig-themed parties where pink colored punch and pork are served, and pink ribbon pigtails are tied around trees. Pig-themed parades also are common. Some have interpreted the day as being a time to give pigs a break by not eating pork products, but others say it is the perfect day for eating bacon, ham, or pork chops. Boston College’s two-time All-ACC running back covered a lot of ground from multiple formations during Day 3 of the team-building exercises on Thursday morning inside the Fish Field House. “I’m feeling good and happy to be back,” Dillon said. “I’m trying to be as healthy as I can be and I really understand about taking care of my body going into my third year. “I’m excited and ready to compete.” There is a lot more involved in Dillon’s understated outlook. Dillon would qualify for a case study of an athlete performing at high level despite an unrelenting injury that was his constant companion over the final five ACC games in 2018. Dillon was a first-year phenom in 2017 when he set the school record for rushing yards (1,589) by a freshman, which was seventh nationally and second in the league behind Louisville quarterback Lamar Jackson, the 2016 Heisman Trophy winner. ... Virginia Tech football: Hokies move back start of spring practice (gobblercountry.com; Manning) For all of you hoping for some spring football to tide you over until the season, you’ll have to wait a little bit longer. On Thursday, the Virginia Tech Hokies announced they would delay the start of spring practice by 17 days. Spring practice was set to open on Sunday, March 3, now it will begin on March 20. Boise St Loss LA Monroe Win @ Virginia Win Louisville Win NC State Loss @ Clemson Loss @ Wake Forest lean towards Win Syracuse lean towards Loss Miami (FL) Loss @ Boston Col. Toss up Alabama St Win @ Florida Loss So if things go chalk the Noles will finish 6-6... but when does college football ever go chalk? I figure there are going to be 3 very close games for the Seminoles: Wake Forest, Syracuse and Boston College. Sweep those and FSU ends up 7-5. NC State comes to Tallahassee, so that game's probably winnable, too. ... ACC Football Rx: Links, news and rumors - 3/1/19 (RX; HM) I'm now on Twitter: Hokie Mark (@mark_hokie) | Twitter. Check it out (and leave me a tweet!) __________ From FBSchedules: UConn, Boston College swap sites for football games in 2022, 2023 The UConn Huskies and the Boston College Eagles will still play on the same dates, they've simply swapped the sites of their football games in 2022 and 2023. The 2022 game will now be played in East Hartford, CT, while the 2023 game will now be played in Chestnut Hill, MA. This change benefits both schools: for UConn, it splits up its Power Five non-conference opponents - now the Huskies will host BC in 2022 and NC State in 2023 (instead of both in 2023). Boston College will also have a more balanced non-conference schedule, with two home games (Rutgers and UMass) in 2022, along with two road games (UConn and Notre Dame). Previously OOC the Eagles only had one away and no home non-conference games for 2023, but is now set to host UConn that season. ... We tallied all the nominations and named our four finalists. On Thursday, we made our fourth and final of the search at Jim's Fish Fry in Syracuse. Judging the Best of CNY fish fry are: Jacob Pucci and Charlie Miller from syracuse.com and longtime restaurateur Bob Corning. As the judges visit each finalist, the public can vote on which restaurant the readers' choice award. In the meantime, here's a look at our trip so far with a few details of our meals. Our full reviews will come when we announce the winners on Friday, March 1. ... ... Jim's Fish Fry The fish at Jim's is all haddock, delivered several times a week from Boston-based Channel Fish Co. The fish is breaded in a cracker-meal based breading that's lighter than the flour- or breadcrumb-based breadings you'll find elsewhere. The fish is fried in cholesterol-free soybean oil. The fish is served skin-on, which Easterly said adds firmness and integrity to the fillet. However, it can be served skinless upon request. The dinner ($11.99), comes with two sides. Pictured here are onions rings, piled atop a heaping portion of macaroni salad. ...
