Welcome to Cyber Monday!
Cyber Monday takes place on the Monday after Thanksgiving, and is the largest online shopping day of the year in the United States. The term was coined by Ellen Davis of the National Retail Federation, while working with Scott Silverman and others, at Shop.org. In 2005, shortly before Thanksgiving, Shop.org put out a press release highlighting the growing amount of sales that took place on the day. Research from 2004 had shown that the day was the 12th largest online shopping day of the year. After the term made its debut, it has been used as a marketing tool by retailers, and the public has embraced the day. As of 2017, sales have increased each year since its inception, transforming the day from the 12th largest online shopping day, to the largest. In 2006 there were $610 million of sales on the day, and in 2016 there were $3.45 billion in sales, marking the first time online sales had passed $3 billion on a single day in the United States. Half or more of the sales from the day are from work computers, suggesting that consumers still want to do more shopping after Black Friday, want to take advantage of the days' deals, or want to hide the gifts they are buying for family members.

Syracuse football hosts Florida transfer OL Chris Bleich on official visit (PS; Bailey)
Syracuse football hosted Florida redshirt freshman offensive lineman Chris Bleich on an official visit this weekend, he said via Twitter direct message.
Bleich, who entered the transfer portal about a month ago, started eight games at guard for the Gators this season.
A 6-foot-6, 330-pound Hanover Township, Pa., native, Bleich was a high-three-star prospect in the Class of 2018, according to 247Sports.com composite. After an early commitment to Penn State, he pledged to UCLA before flipping to Florida shortly after Dan Mullen was hired as the Gators head coach. The Wyoming Valley West High School graduate also received offers from Nebraska, Maryland, Minnesota, Mississippi State, North Carolina, Pittsburgh and Syracuse, among others.
Bleich enrolled early at Florida two springs ago, appeared in four games during his redshirt season and earned a starting role this past spring. He held that position until UF’s Richard Gouraige replaced Bleich during the team’s 24-17 loss against Georgia on Nov. 2.
NCAA transfer rules require most players to sit out a season if they’re moving from one Football Bowl Subidivions program to another. However, it is possible that Bleich pursues a family hardship waiver.

Syracuse football ends disappointing season with flourish against Wake Forest - The Juice Online (the juice; Stechschulte)
Syracuse closed the 2019 campaign in dramatic fashion, as Trill Williams ripped the ball away from a Wake Forest receiver and returned the ball 94 yards for a touchdown and a 39-30 overtime victory. The Orange (5-7, 2-6 ACC) had taken the lead on a field goal on their opening possession of the extra session, but Williams’ big play sealed the victory. The Demon Deacons dropped to 8-4 overall and 4-4 in the conference.
The explosive finale capped a day of big plays from the SU defense, as they forced five turnovers in the game to help offset Wake’s 572 yards of offense. The Orange offense was choppy and sloppy, as they also committed three turnovers and committed several of the team’s dozen penalties.
Wake Forest converted their first possession into a field goal for an early lead. Syracuse struck back with an effective drive that featured a couple impressive Moe Neal runs, a superhuman Taj Harris effort to nearly score on a reception where he shook about half the Demon Deacon roster, and Clayton Welch connecting on a 12-yard touchdown pass to Trishton Jackson. Andre Szmyt added the extra point for a 7-3 Orange lead.
Andre Cisco personally ended the next two Wake possessions, first with an interception, then by recovering a fumble caused by Lakiem Williams. SU converted the latter into points when Szmyt booted a 24-yard field goal from the right hash to extend the lead to 10-3 with just over two minutes left in the opening quarter.
Welch notched his second scoring pass of the day on a fake bubble screen when Luke Benson slipped behind the defense and the quarterback connected with him on a 29-yard touchdown. Szmyt’s conversion pushed the Syracuse lead to 17-3 less than two minutes into the second quarter.

A 'Way-Too-Early' look at what to expect out of Syracuse Football in 2020 (cnycentral.com; Hauswirth)
It may be very early -- almost too early -- but let's take a look into the future of the Syracuse University football program.
After all, the 2020 season will surely be here before we know it.
Not to mention, most Orange fans would probably tell you they cannot wait to forget about the 2019 campaign.
But before we totally turn the page on 2019, the final game of the regular season cannot go unannounced.
What Syracuse was able to do against an 8-win Wake Forest team, who was battling for a chance to play in the Orange Bowl, was nothing short of amazing.
The Orange came out firing behind back-up quarterback Clayton Welch, who led them to a 17-6 lead at the half courtesy of his two touchdown passes.
The Demon Deacons were able to claw their way back into the game, but the signature moment arrived on the final play of 2019 when Trill Williams stripped the football loose from Kendall Hinton, resulting in a touchdown and an overtime win for the Orange.
"I always try to be around the ball and try to make a play," Williams said after the game. "I didn't have to score but I had to score for the seniors going out. I have to give them something so when they leave, they can remember that play. We wanted the seniors to go out with a win and it's going to translate for us in the off-season, you know, ending on a win -- to get better and get more players to come in and next year's going to be a different season."
Syracuse football fans can only hope 2020 will be a much different season, especially given the hype entering the 2019 campaign.
After the tremendous season in 2018, a bowl game was to be expected. But a 5-7 overall record signified an early end to the year and a frustrated fan base.
It was not all about the record itself -- it was mainly because of the way the team looked throughout most of the year.
The offensive line could not block anybody. Tommy DeVito failed to improvise and make a big throw down the field. The defense was left out to dry on multiple occasions due to the offense's inability to move the ball and keep drives alive.
It's completely and totally understandable how and why Syracuse fans were so frustrated throughout the 2019 season -- but perhaps there is light at the end of the tunnel -- and the Orange will return to a bowl game in 2020.
That's not fact -- merely opinion -- but should be the full blown expectation for next season.
Let's take a closer look at who the Orange will see in the non-conference portion of their schedule in 2020:
...
Black: Tommy DeVito should be respected despite losing season (DO; Black)
Tommy DeVito is a “sweetheart.” At least his backup quarterback Clayton Welch thinks he is, thanks to his willingness to always put others first.
If Welch ever needs anything from DeVito, he knows his road trip roommate has his back. Their relationship started when Welch, who now doesn’t shy away from the spotlight, first got to Syracuse and was one of the more shy players on the team. DeVito noticed and always made a point to go up to Welch to ask him if he wanted to hang out or get something to eat.
But those aren’t the reasons why Syracuse fans and college football fans alike need to start respecting the Orange’s signal-caller more. Sure, he’s a great teammate. Sure, he can be a goofy and fun friend off the field. No, DeVito deserves more respect for his play inside the white lines.
Ten. That’s how many FBS quarterbacks have thrown for as many touchdowns (19) as DeVito did this season while simultaneously throwing five interceptions or fewer. Despite not being able to start in the season finale, DeVito finished with top-eight marks all-time in Syracuse history in touchdowns, passing yards, completions and completion percentage. By every single measure in the book, DeVito had an all-time great season in terms of SU quarterbacks.
But scroll through Twitter or read some articles written about DeVito earlier this season and you won’t find any inclination suggesting so. Instead, you’ll read SU fans ripping their quarterback apart for his play early in the season.
“That’s part of the position,” DeVito said. “But you just gotta stay positive throughout it all, stay level-headed, don’t get too high, don’t get too low, just be there and play football.”

Three Players Who Shined In 2019 – Orange Fizz – Free Syracuse Recruiting News (orangefizz.net; Hoppe)
Ok, so the 2019 season didn’t quite go as planned. It’s hard to believe the Orange won’t play another game in the Carrier Dome until mid-September of next year. Oh well.
As always, thanks for following along with us here at Orange Fizz. Even though the result wasn’t what we wanted, our staff enjoyed providing you insight all season long.
To put a bow on the year, here are some players that shined in an overall depressing season. Why not put a positive spin on things after Saturday’s dramatic overtime win?
Safety Andre Cisco
The All-American sophomore delivered for the second-straight season. Cisco ended the year with five interceptions, tied for sixth in the NCAA. That number could have been even higher had Cisco not missed three games (Western Michigan, Holy Cross and NC State). He helped lead the secondary this year and was consistently around the football. Cisco has become one of the best safeties in the ACC.
Wide Receiver Trishton Jackson
Ok, Trishton, you got our attention. How good was he this year? Jackson reached 1,000 yards in his first year with the program. The Michigan State transfer exceeded all expectations. Imagine how inept the Orange offense would have been without him. Well, it was still pretty inept at times with him. Syracuse is lucky to have a talented wideout that is likely destined for the NFL. He’ll be back next year and Orange fans can expect him to be among the nation’s best again.
Defensive End Brandon Berry
Who had Berry as the Orange’s best pass rusher this year? Not me. He finished the year with 5.5 sacks, including 2.5 against Holy Cross. To be among the league’s best next year, Berry will need to be more consistent: all of his sacks game within the same four-game stretch. At the same time, the majority of that production came during SU’s losing streak. Let’s see how Berry performs next year in what figures to be an expanded role.
Notice a theme here? All three of these guys are returning. No, that was not on purpose. 2019 was a huge disappointment.

Syracuse vs. Wake Forest report card: Inspired finish brings hope for Orange fans (auburnpub.com; Sciria)
Always leave them wanting more is an old show business adage, and in a way the Syracuse University football team ended its 2019 season in a similar fashion. The 39-30 overtime victory over Wake Forest at the Carrier Dome on Saturday was a roller coaster ride that saw the Orange start off strong with a 17-3 lead only to see the Demon Deacons come back and tie it in the third quarter. Then in the fourth quarter, Syracuse would twice retake the lead and Wake Forest would respond with the tying score, the last a field goal at the end of regulation to force overtime.
After Syracuse took a 33-30 lead in its overtime possession it looked like Wake Forest was on its way to the winning touchdown until Trill Williams ripped the ball away from Kendall Hinton at the 6 and ran 94 yards for the dramatic game-clinching score. For the Orange fans who stuck it out (more about that later), it was a thrilling end to a disappointing season.

Ten transfer portal options that make sense for Syracuse (247sports.com; McAllister)
Syracuse football's 2019 season concluded with Saturday's thrilling (or should we say Trill-ing) 39-30 overtime victory over Wake Forest. The game ended on a Trill Williams rip the ball away fumble recovery and 94 yard touchdown return that sent the 23 seniors on the Orange roster off with a win. The focus for the returning players is offseason development as well as strength and conditioning. The focus for the coaching staff is recruiting.

Modern college football recruiting is not just high school prospects or even junior college players. The transfer market is as crowded as it has ever been, especially with the addition of the NCAA transfer portal. Syracuse lost five players to the transfer portal prior to the 2019 season, and gained one in graduate transfer Ryan Alexander. Alexander left the team midway through the season.
Head coach Dino Babers routinely saves a few scholarships for transfers, as most have worked out well for the Orange during his tenure. Syracuse brought in Amba Etta-Tawo as a graduate transfer from Maryland, and he had a tremendous 2017 season. Prior to the 2018 season, wide receiver Trishton Jackson and running back Abdul Adams both transferred in. They sat out the 2018 campaign, but both contributed this past year.
Who will Syracuse target in the transfer market to add talent and depth to the 2020 roster and beyond? There are many targets that make sense. Of course they will involve recruiting battles just like high school prospects, but Syracuse has shown that transfers can be successful in the program. Here are ten names currently in the transfer portal that make sense for Syracuse to target.
Cade Fortin - QB North Carolina
Cade Fortin is an interesting case. Syracuse could use some more competition in the quarterback room, especially with Clayton Welch graduating. Syracuse has missed on a couple of high school targets, making Cade a very important target. He has taken official visits to Vanderbilt, Syracuse and Kansas. He is looking to make his decision over the next week or two. More on Fortin and his recruitment, as he gets set to host schools for in-home visits, HERE. He would have three years of eligibility remaining.
Out of high school, Fortin originally committed to Texas A&M before they fired Kevin Sumlin. He then signed with North Carolina. He also held offers from California, Iowa State, Kansas State, Kentucky, Louisville, Oklahoma State, Ole Miss, Vanderbilt and West Virginia, among others.
Chris Bleich - OL Florida
Florida offensive lineman transfer Chris Bleich took an official visit to Syracuse over the weekend. Bleich previously visited Maryland. Bleich started at Florida for the first several games this season, before electing to move on from the program. He is originally from Pennsylvania, and lives less than three hours the Syracuse campus. Bleich already took his redshirt year in 2018, meaning unless he is granted a waiver, he would have to sit out the 2020 season. That would give him two years of eligibility beyond that. If he is granted a waiver, he would be eligible right away and have three years remaining. With the struggles Syracuse had along the offensive line this season, targeting a transfer with SEC starting experience makes sense.
...
Syracuse Football: Trishton Jackson leaves fans wanting more in 2020 (itlh; Esden Jr)
Syracuse football fans are drooling after a thrilling 2019 campaign from Trishton Jackson. Here’s why he has only scratched the surface of his potential.
On Saturday Syracuse football got its fifth win of the season and Michigan State transfer Trishton Jackson made history.
He became the sixth player in program history to get over the 1,000 yard receiving plateau. Half of those players have come during the Dino Babers’ era (Amba Etta-Tawo, Steve Ishmael, and the aforementioned Jackson).
Although that isn’t the only history Trishton has made this season with the Orange.
In 12 games Jackson snagged 66 receptions for 1,023 yards and 11 touchdowns:
- 66 receptions are seventh-most in single-season Syracuse history.
- 1,023 yards are sixth-most in single-season Syracuse history.
- 11 touchdowns are tied for third-best in Syracuse single-season history with Rob Moore back in 1988.
- In the final quarter of the season, Trishton had a touchdown in four straight games that are the seventh-longest such streak in program history.
- His 5 100-yard receiving performances is tied for the fifth-best in program history with Shelby Hill (1993), Tommy Kane (1987), and Alec Lemon (2012).
- Speaking of with another 5 100-yard receiving games in 2020, Trishton would tie Steve Ishmael (10) for second-most 100-yard receiving games all-time.

Rivalry Week meant a 2nd, 3rd, 4th or even 5th loss for some previously ranked teams...
How this benefits the ACC: True, there isn't much quality outside of undefeated Clemson. In fact, Virginia has 3 losses and no one else has fewer than 4 losses (see below)... however, there just aren't a lot of 3-loss teams left anywhere, so the Cavaliers should be ranked later today.#5 Alabama lost at #15 Auburn by a FG, 45-48
(This is the 2nd loss for the Tide and most likely will keep them out of the playoffs)
#8 Minnesota lost at home to #12 Wisconsin by 21 points, 17-38
(This is the Gophers 2nd loss, both in conference; Badgers win the Big Ten West)
#13 Michigan lost at home to #1 Ohio State by 29 points, 27-56
(This is the 3rd loss for the Wolverines)
#19 Cincinnati lost at #18 Memphis by 10 points, 24-34
(This is the Bearcats 2nd loss, could be enough to drop them out of the top 25)
#21 Oklahoma State lost at home to #7 Oklahoma by 18 points, 16-34
(This is the Cowboys 4th loss, may drop them out of the top 25)
#23 Iowa State lost at unranked Kansas State by 10 points, 17-27
(This is the 5th loss for the Cyclones; how are they still ranked?)

4. Virginia, by Spencer
...Sometimes stopping a massive losing streak is a matter of just bringing the right gear. If this describes you or your team, take note: Simply find a Bryce Perkins, and you’re good.
The UVA QB scored the first TD on a 39-yard run, piled up 475 yards, and kept the Cavaliers alive when the Hokies almost reclaimed the game. Perkins had the game of his life three years after breaking the C4 and C5 vertebra in his neck, nearly leaving football, and healing up by wearing a neck brace for five months before transferring from Arizona State.
Relationships really can be a beautiful thing. The Cavaliers needed a QB who understood waiting out the bad to get to something good. UVA gave Perkins the chance to be the quarterback he thought he could be; Perkins, in turn, finally gave them the Commonwealth Cup.

North Carolina needed a win and some help to get out of the ACC’s second rung of bowl options. The Tar Heels got both on Saturday.
With their win over N.C. State and losses by Louisville (to Kentucky) and Pittsburgh (to Boston College), a spot in the Tier I pool came open for the Tar Heels (6-6).
UNC has a good story with the return of coach Mack Brown and the emergence of freshman quarterback Sam Howell. The Heels will be a popular choice for a Tier I game in either New York or Charlotte.
The ACC title game on Saturday in Charlotte, between Clemson and Virginia, plus the final College Football Playoff rankings will determine the final ACC bowl order.

If UVa loses to Clemson and the Orange takes V Tech, there will be hell to pay...
In the hours after Virginia’s 39-30 win over Virginia Tech on Friday, the Cavalier faithful started deliberating online about the team’s potential bowl destinations.
The one game on every fan’s radar is the Orange Bowl.
The New Year’s Six bowl holds tremendous prestige and would be Virginia’s second major bowl game appearance in program history. The Cavaliers played in the Sugar Bowl in 1991.
With the ACC bowl picture a bit foggy outside of Clemson, trying to determine where the Cavaliers (9-3, 6-2 ACC) might play can be a challenge, but the Orange Bowl is the likeliest landing spot for the Wahoos.
Beating the Tigers is the simplest way to make the Orange Bowl. If Virginia beats Clemson in the ACC Championship Game on Saturday in Charlotte, the Cavaliers clinch an automatic berth into the Orange Bowl as the ACC champion.
The scenarios become more complicated should UVa fall to Clemson. Given the fact that the Cavaliers will likely enter Saturday’s contest against the Tigers as close to a four-touchdown underdog, these scenarios could very well come into play.
If Virginia loses to Clemson, the Tigers will likely earn a spot in the College Football Playoff. This means the Orange Bowl won’t take the ACC champion because they will be in the College Football Playoff. The Orange Bowl then automatically selects the next highest-ranked ACC team outside of Clemson.

There will be one more main move before the big round of projections after next Saturday night.
Where will the College Football Playoff committee rank the top teams on Tuesday?
Where will it rank Penn State and Wisconsin in the Rose Bowl chase? How many SEC teams will be in the top ten?
Where Penn State, Florida, Alabama and Wisconsin are ranked will change the entire puzzle, so take this ALL with a big grain of salt – half of this might need to be blown up and redone in 72 hours.
One other key note: the Big Ten has rules with several of its bowl games that four new teams go in a five-year span.

Rutgers has made it official.
Greg Schiano will be the Scarlet Knights’ next head football coach.
Athletics director Patrick Hobbs released a statement confirming Schiano’s hire on Sunday morning, hours after NJ Advance Media and other outlets reported the university had reached a deal to bring Schiano back for his second stint at the helm. Schiano’s hire is scheduled to be finalized by a Board of Governors vote on Tuesday at 10 a.m.
Hobbs’ statement in full:
The next great chapter for Rutgers Football is about to begin.
There are many people to thank for where we are today, particularly Coach Schiano and his team, as well as everyone here at Rutgers. They all played important roles in bringing these complex negotiations to a close.
It wouldn’t be appropriate to prejudge any action that the Board of Governors may take, but I believe today that Rutgers Football is on the path to greatness.
Schiano, 53, built the Rutgers football program into a frequent bowl participant before leaving for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in early 2012. He spent three seasons as Ohio State’s defensive coordinator and then had a brief stint in the same role with the New England Patriots earlier this year before electing to take the season off.
Schiano’s record at Rutgers is deceiving. The Wyckoff native and Ramapo High product inherited the nation’s worst program when he was hired. The Scarlet Knights had four straight losing seasons to begin his tenure but earned the program’s second bowl berth in 2005, his fifth year.

Roads were terrible today in Upstate New York as a winter storm sweeping across the country brought a messy mix of snow, sleet and ice.
Tomorrow will be worse.
“Don’t travel later tonight and especially Monday unless you absolutely have to or it is an emergency," said Dave Nicosia, the National Weather Service’s warning coordination meteorologist in Binghamton. “Travel could become very dangerous to impossible.”
The heaviest snow is yet to come, tonight through Monday, Nicosia said. Ten to 16 inches more snow could fall from the Finger Lakes to the Southern Tier to the Capital Region.
The snowiest Upstate spot as of 7:30 p.m. was Aqueduct, in Schenectady County, with 8.2 inches. Nearby Prnicetown had 8 inches. Watertown, in Jefferson County, had 6.1 inches; Albany had 5.8 inches.
As of 5 p.m., Syracuse had just 2.2 inches of snow. The total precipitation, though, was 0.54 inches, and much of that came in the form of sleet that caused very slippery roads. Interstate 81 was closed near Binghamton, and the speed limit has been reduced to 45 mph from Syracuse to the Pennsylvania border.
