Here are our position-by-position grades and team superlatives: Quarterback Stephen Bailey: B- Tommy DeVito might’ve been dealt the toughest situation of any Power-Five quarterback this season. The Orange allowed 45 sacks through nine games, leading him to play through multiple injuries with little running game to provide balance until the final quarter of the year. Still, there were issues with early season decision making and year-long chemistry with his receivers. Finding renewed comfort in the pocket will be critical for his growth this offseason. Nate Mink: B- If this season taught us anything, it’s that Tommy DeVito can only be as good as his surrounding cast. To that end, DeVito’s numbers landed in the middle of the ACC. He will take a season of learning with him in 2020, along with an 8-to-1 touchdown-to-interception ratio in league games. Only two teams – Old Dominion and Akron – allowed more in the regular season. As SU (5-7, 2-6 Atlantic Coast) slipped further down the conference ranks, the sacks piled up. By the time the Orange lost to Florida State on Oct. 26, Syracuse had allowed seven or more sacks in three-straight games against Power 5 opponents and 37 total. The Orange’s protection of the quarterback improved in the final four games of the season, leading to two Syracuse wins. Part of the success came following a lineup switch when Carlos Vettorello and Airon Servais rotated spots, putting Servais at left tackle and Vettorello at center. Following that switch, SU’s quarterbacks were sacked just five times in three games. But the early season woes on the offensive line will be what is remembered from Syracuse’s 2019 season because of how much it inhibited the offense. That impressive 8.3 yards per carry mark leads the nation and proves just how efficient the running back has been during this season. In addition to having a solid junior season, Etienne also broke the ACC career record for total touchdowns and rushing touchdowns. Though Etienne has played just three seasons with Clemson football, he is currently ranked No. 3 on the Tigers’ all-time career rushing board (3,810 yards). He surpassed CJ Spiller a few weeks ago and is now just behind James Davis (3,881 yards) and Raymond Priester (3,966 yards).
