Welcome to Three Kings Day!
Epiphany is a Christian feast day celebrating God coming into the flesh as Jesus Christ. It is celebrated differently in Western and Eastern churches, and there are various customs around the world. The word "epiphany" comes from a Greek word meaning "to appear." Epiphany may have originated in the eastern half of the Roman Empire as a feast to honor Jesus' baptism, and then expanded to include a celebration of his birth, the visit of the Magi, and the events of Jesus' childhood. The day began being celebrated in the latter half of the fourth century.
In Western churches the day commemorates the visit of the Magi—the day that Jesus was revealed to Gentiles. In some Western denominations, Epiphany starts the liturgical season of Epiphanytide, and the night before is many times celebrated as Twelfth Night.

ACC Teams in Title Games (1953-2019)
This year Clemson will play for the national championship for the 4th time in the last 5 years, which begs the question: just how many times have current ACC schools played in the national title game (official or de facto)?

* I'm going by current ACC teams, not necessarily at the time the game was played. So I'm not counting games involving Maryland, but I did include all expansion teams from Georgia Tech through Louisville (but not Notre Dame, since they are not football members). |
Early Look at 2020 Schedule, Weeks 1-3 (RX; HM)
Early Look at 2020 Schedule, Weeks 1-3
Of course the ACC hasn't actually released the 2020 schedule yet, but we do have most of the non-conference games set (at least tentatively), which should give us some idea what the schedule will look like for the first 3 weeks of 2020...
WEEK ONE:
Date | visitor | home | neutral |
9/3/2020 | UNC | UCF | |
9/5/2020 | Holy Cross | BC | |
9/5/2020 | W Virginia | FSU | Atlanta |
9/5/2020 | Wake Forest | Old Dominion
9/5/2020 | MTSU | Duke | |
9/5/2020 | Temple | Miami | |
9/5/2020 | Miami(OH) | Pitt
9/5/2020 | Liberty | Va Tech
9/7/2020 | UVA | Georgia | Atlanta |
tbd: Clemson, Louisville, NC State, Syracuse, Ga Tech |
There are currently only 9 non-conference games scheduled in week one. That leads me to believe that there are plans to play at least 2 and possibly 3 conference games to start the 2020 season.
Georgia Tech plays both Clemson and Syracuse, so either of those could be the week one pairing. The other teams are all Atlantic division teams, so they all play each other at some point.
The uncertainty over the number comes from the fact that there are uneven numbers. To avoid a bye in week one, someone will need to move an OOC game to...
WEEK TWO:
Date | visitor | home | neutral |
9/11/2020 | App State | Wake Forest
9/12/2020 | Ohio | BC | |
9/12/2020 | Miss. St | NC State
9/12/2020 | Syracuse | Rutgers
9/12/2020 | UNC | Auburn | Atlanta |
9/12/2020 | Elon | Duke | |
9/12/2020 | Gardner Webb | Ga Tech
9/12/2020 | Wagner | Miami
9/12/2020 | Pitt | Marshall
9/12/2020 | VMI | UVA | |
9/12/2020 | Penn State | Va Tech
tbd: Clemson, Louisville, FSU |
Week two, like week one, also has an uneven number of games scheduled. Again, to avoid a bye in week two (highly undesirable), then one game either needs to be move from week one to week two or vice versa.
Right now it looks like at least one big ACC Atlantic matchup will take place in week two.

20 questions for Syracuse sports in the 2020’s (PS; Axe)
We are just six days into the 2020′s and already we’ve learned that the New England Patriots won’t win the Super Bowl, Alabama is not in the college football title game and the Golden State Warriors are the second-worst team in the NBA.
OK, so not a good time to be a dynasty in the sports world. Take note, Clemson.
Keeping things closer to home, we are coming off a pretty incredible decade for sports in Syracuse and Central New York.
Here are 20 things I’m wondering about for the decade ahead. Answer along as we go. We can compare notes at the bottom of the column in my answer key.
1. Will Syracuse University add more sports to its roster?
2. Will Syracuse University finally retire a women’s jersey/number at the Carrier Dome?
3. How much will it cost to ride the roller coaster at the top of the Carrier Dome?
Ok. That’s not a real question. But this is.
3. How will the improvements at the Carrier Dome enhance the fan experience?
4. Will the Carrier Dome still be called the Carrier Dome
