Welcome to National Joy Germ Day!

On January 8, 1981, Joan E. White of Syracuse, New York, was reading the newspaper when she came across a story about a California couple who offered to worry for others in exchange for a fee. White believed this approach to facing the world's problems was flawed and decided to create an organization to counteract the worriers. She founded Joygerms Unlimited and designated January 8 as Joygerm Day, on what also happened to be her late mother Nora's birthday.

Shortly after forming Joygerms Unlimited, White began responding to requests from people asking to join the group; she allowed people to join free of charge, as long as they sent her a self-addressed, stamped envelope. Although Joygerms Day was unofficially first held on January 8, 1981, when the idea for it and Joygerms Unlimited came about, it didn't become a "national" day until 1985.

2019 Review: UVA TV Viewers (RX; HM)

2019 Review: UVA TV Viewers
More TV talk...
UVA logo

2019 was the year of the Cavaliers, in both men's basketball and in football - at least within the Coastal division. So, how did the Wahoos perform in terms of delivering TV viewers? We'll look at three areas: Conference Championship Games, Contract Bowls, and ACC regular season comparison of UVA vs. VT. For the first two, we'll attempt to get apples-to-apples by looking back 3 years, when the same bowls hosted the CFP semi-finals...

Conference Championships
In recent years the ACC has had good TV ratings, though never as good as the SEC in part because the ACC CG is always up against the Big Ten CG, while the SEC has had little or no competition. However, this year it wasn't even close...

2019 Conference Championship Games
SEC Championship (CBS) LSU/Georgia 13.70M
ACC Championship (ABC) Clemson/UVA 3.97M

2016 Conference Championship Games
SEC Championship (CBS) Alabama/Florida 11.09M
ACC Championship (ABC) Clemson/Va Tech 5.34M

It just so happens that 3 years ago the ACC CG matchup also featured a team from Virginia against Clemson - and the Hokies drew about 35% more viewers than the Wahoos.

I'm not sure if this is all of the bowls, but I'm pretty sure it's at least all of the P5 teams in bowls...

Syracuse.com real estate update includes Byrne Dairy warehouse, Smith Restaurant Supply (PS; Breidenbach)

Syracuse.com has updated its database of the latest commercial and residential real estate sales in Central New York.

Search three years of sales data in Cayuga, Madison, Onondaga and Oswego counties.
Syracuse.com updates its real estate sales database each week. The records come from the New York State Office of Real Property Tax Services.

Readers can search property sales by place, price, school district or the names of buyers and sellers for the last 3 years.
This week’s update includes:

    • The $13.6 million sale of a Syracuse warehouse by Byrne Dairy, Inc. to UNC Real Estate III, LLC. The address is 214-34 King Street near Oneida Street.
    • The $425,000 sale of the Smith Restaurant Supply Building, at 500 Erie Boulevard, Syracuse from the Kuppermann Family Trust to Smith Building, LLC. Syracuse.com | The Post-Standard reported in November that the building will be redeveloped into 37 affordable apartments. Developer Matthew Paulus said he hoped to start construction this summer.
If you have a news tip about a sale, email reporter Michelle Breidenbach at mbreidenbach@syracuse.com.

Question for the board: Which ACC teams WANT to play in the Holiday Bowl (in San Diego, CA)?
I don't know about the teams, but I suspect that fans would rather go to the Holiday Bowl in San Diego rather than the Pinstripe Bowl in New York City in December. :p

the fans with income to travel. but the other 95% of the fan base doesnt

I would like to go to San Diego. Never been there. Great weather, golf, lots to do.

Cost for a round trip flight from Syracuse is $352. Only one stop. Not bad at all. I am sure the price would be worse at bowl time and hotel rooms will be another story but still...not as bad as I was imagining.

Love San Diego. Had a VRBO 2 bd, kitchen, porch, etc., $140 night. Mission Hills, overlooked the Bay.

I lived in an apartment in Pacific Beach during the Summer of 1991. Great place to live! My favorite hang-out was the stretch from La Jolla to Torrey Pines - though PB wasn't bad either.
