Welcome to National Caramel Popcorn Day!
Combining popcorn and molasses began in the early 1800s. However, caramel was prevalent as well, and with the production of Cracker Jack, the popularity was ever-increasing. Invented by Frederick Rueckheim, the popcorn merchant dabbled with creating a new snack. An immigrant from Germany to Chicago, he enlisted his brother, Louis, to help. After adding molasses and nuts, their snack was ready for an introduction to the masses.
Like many famous foods, Cracker Jack gained popularity on the stage of the 1893 World’s Fair. Other foods to grab the public’s attention at similar expositions include cotton candy and the ice cream cone. While they weren’t invented there, nor did they make their debut, they sure did capture the imagination and make a lasting impression there.
However, in 1908, something happened to connect Cracker Jack and baseball permanently in the American psyche, while also launching the business into high gear. A young entertainer by the name of Jack Norworth penned a catchy tune referencing Cracker Jack and the American pastime. The song “Take Me Out To The Ballgame” not only caused sales of the snackfood to soar but the fans of the game continue to sing the song at every game.

Latest college football bowl projections released (247sports.com; Marsdale)
The hot topic around the college football world this week is whether the season will start on time, or if there’s a chance that it isn’t played at all. No one knows what will happen, but coaches are making major adjustments during the coronavirus pandemic to make sure their teams are ready to return to action.
"It’s the main focus of what we’re doing right now," Minnesota head coach PJ Fleck told USA Today. "Because when this does kick back up, we want to be ahead of the game. We don’t want to be caught up. We want to be ahead of the game."
The Golden Gophers enjoyed a 10-2 regular season a year ago en-route to a New Year’s Six bowl appearance. Which program will take that leap next year? Who will be the program to break a several season bowl drought and reach that elusive six-win mark? Which coaches will take their programs to the postseason in their first year as a head coach or first year with a new program?

Pinstripe Bowl (ACC vs. Big Ten): Florida State vs. Nebraska
Birmingham Bowl (AAC vs. SEC): Memphis vs. Ole Miss
Cheez-It Bowl (Big Ten vs. Big 12): Michigan State vs. West Virginia
A rematch of the 2005 National Championship game, you say? These are two of the most storied programs in all of college football, who have undoubtedly taken a step back since that time. If these two teams end up meeting in the Alamo Bowl, it will likely be considered a disappointing season for both. However, watching Sam Ehlinger and Kedon Slovis go shot-for-shot would certainly be intriguing for college football fans. This group also includes several coaches in their first year with their respective programs. Mel Tucker taking Michigan State to a bowl game in year one would certainly be a surprise to some.
Liberty Bowl (Big 12 vs. SEC): Baylor vs. Mississippi State
Las Vegas Bowl (Pac-12 vs. Big Ten in 2020): Iowa vs. Utah
Sun Bowl (ACC vs. Pac-12): NC State vs. UCLA
Gasparilla Bowl (AAC vs. ACC): Houston vs. Syracuse
The Liberty Bowl brings about a matchup between Dave Aranda and Mike Leach, who are in the first year with their respective programs. In Aranda’s case, he is a first-time head coach. Baylor got a taste of one of the SEC’s best a season ago in the Sugar Bowl when it fell to Georgia. As for the Las Vegas Bowl, it gets a unique new setting switch, moving inside the new NFL stadium out West and away from UNLV's home digs. There's nothing official yet, but the Las Vegas Bowl is considered one of the Pac-12's top-tier games meaning organizers will get their choice of teams following the Rose and Alamo selections. For Chip Kelly at UCLA, getting the Bruins to a Bowl game would be enormous with how his first two seasons have gone.

Myrtle Beach Bowl (NEW in 2020; Conference USA, Mid-American and/or Sun Belt): UAB vs. Georgia Southern

Texas Bowl (SEC vs. Big 12): TCU vs. Tennessee
Two new bowl games are on the list, and the first one brings about an intriguing matchup. Brady Hoke is back for his second go-around as head coach at San Diego State and takes on an Arizona State team that is looking to take the next step in 2020. The Texas Bowl is usually appetizing and TCU-Tennessee is a matchup we haven’t seen in over 40 years on the field.
Holiday Bowl (ACC vs. Pac-12 in 2020): Louisville vs. Washington
Gator Bowl (SEC vs. ACC in 2020): North Carolina vs. Missouri
Music City Bowl (SEC vs. Big Ten in 2020): Minnesota vs. Kentucky
Belk Bowl (ACC vs. Big Ten in 2020): Virginia vs. South Carolina
This group of four bowls feature major changes for the 2020 season and will take some getting used to for fans. However, there is good news. Teams from Power 5 conferences will have an opportunity to play in a different venue in a new city beginning this fall through 2025 in various games. First-year head coach Jimmy Lake would sure be happy if he could travel down the coast and take the Huskies to the Holiday Bowl, an attractive destination for Washington fans. Will Muschamp really needs to get to a bowl game at South Carolina, and would face a Virginia team coming off an ACC coastal division title in 2019.

Over/Under set for Louisville Football's 2020 win total (SI; McGavic)
While there are growing doubts that the 151st season of college football will play a full schedule or even be played at all, Las Vegas & Atlantic City are still operating at full steam ahead.
Recently, DraftKings released their projected 2020 win totals for every FBS team in the nation, including the Louisville Cardinals. When you have a team guided by the reigning ACC Coach of the Year in Scott Satterfield and return many of your key pieces on both sides of the ball, one would anticipate that the Cards' projected win total would be among the highest in the ACC.
Unfortunately this is not the case. As of Apr. 1, DraftKings has set the over/under for Louisville's 2020 win total at 6.5. They are tied with Pitt for sixth best in the ACC and the third best in the Atlantic Division behind only FSU (7.5) and Clemson (11.5).
This isn't the first site to not have a ton of stock invested in the Cardinals. SportsBetting.ag recently gave Louisville the seventh-best odds to win the ACC Championship at +2800 (or 28-1), also trailing the Seminoles (+1600) and Tigers (-600) in the division.
The Cardinals finished the 2019 season with a 8-5 record including a Music City Bowl win over Mississippi State, doubling their 2018 record of 2-10. For 2020 they return 16 of their 22 starters from last season, including Micale Cunningham, Javian Hawkins & Tutu Atwell.

Syracuse Football: Trishton Jackson reveals dream NFL fit at next level (itlh; Esden Jr)
Former Syracuse football wideout Trishton Jackson recently released his dream NFL fit at the next level. Here are all the details.
Trishton Jackson is one of several former Syracuse football alum that has entered the 2020 NFL Draft.
There’s a lot of speculation regarding his draft position, but according to the latest seven-round NFL mock draft from Matt Miller of Bleacher Report, he believes Trishton will be selected in the sixth round by the Buffalo Bills.
Jackson recently joined Boy Green on The Score 1260 to reveal which teams he would love to play for if he got to choose:
“It’s crazy over the last several years I’ve always had it in my mind that I wanted to play wherever Tom Brady is. Another place I’d love is joining the Cincinnati Bengals. They have AJ Green and Tyler Boyd so they’d be fun to play with. So if I could pick either one of those places would be cool, but really anywhere is fine for me wherever I get drafted to.”
On the surface the Bengals pick is a bit odd, but when you dig a bit deeper it makes a ton of sense. At the NFL Combine, Trishton connected with former LSU quarterback Joe Burrow who is expected to be the No. 1 overall pick by Cincinnati.
The other location he mentioned is playing with Tom Brady who switched teams this offseason from the New England Patriots to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. The team does have a vacancy at wide receiver after losing Breshad Perriman to the NY Jets.
It’s eery how similar Perriman and Jackson are from a style standpoint. Jackson could bring speed and an ability to make plays down the field to the Tampa offense that would pair nicely with Mike Evans and Chris Godwin.

What if there is a 2020 season, but it has to be shortened due to concerns over COVID-19 returning this Fall? That's a real possibility when you consider what these guys have to say:
So playing all 12 games in 13 weeks (3 full months) could end up being off the table... But if we play a shortened season, how short - and what might work?
Option #1: the 9-week season
This could be played between September 1st and October 31st as originally scheduled, or possibly even moved earlier than that - say, August and September? The biggest advantage of a schedule like this is that you get to keep the entire conference slate for the Big Ten, Big XII and Pac-12, and for the ACC and SEC you even get to play one non-conference game. Which non-conference games, though? Obviously games against the Big Ten, Big XII and Pac-12 are not an option (those teams are going to use up all of their OOC games in conference), but games against either an SEC team or an FBS independent would work.

No golf for 3 weeks? Those on courses Sunday ‘disappointed’ in county order (PS; Weidner)
The coronavirus pandemic infringed further into every day life in Onondaga County on Sunday with the county’s order closing golf courses for three weeks.
County Executive Ryan McMahon announced the order during his daily briefing, saying complaints over a lack of social distancing at local courses spurred the move.
While disappointed with the order, players interviewed at a pair of courses in the eastern suburbs said they understood the measures being taken.
“I’m kind of upset about it,” said Rich Kopazewski of Syracuse, who had just completed 18 holes at Lyndon Golf in DeWitt. “My only solace is to come out here.”
“I find it disappointing, selfishly, because I’m dying to play golf,” said Rob Cuthill of Fayetteville, who just finished playing at Lyndon with his son, Carson, and daughter, Jocelyn. “It’s a blessing to be able to do this with the kids. It’s really too bad.”
