Welcome to National Cheese Day!
This is a day to celebrate cheese, which comes from the milk of cows, goats, sheep and buffalo. Its age, temperature, spices, and seasonings affect its flavor and texture. Cheese is good on its own, but it also goes well with souffles, soups, and pastas, and can be paired with many foods. It many times is also paired with white or red wine.
While it cannot be definitively said why National Cheese Day is celebrated on June 4, rumor has it that a shepherd discovered Roquefort cheese on June 4, 1070. Apparently he had left bread and cheese in a cave a few days or months before and the mold had overtaken the cheese and transformed it when he returned. Could this be why we celebrate cheese on this day?

SU football workouts during pandemic: What we know, what we don’t know (PS; Bailey)
Syracuse University Athletics quietly posted an announcement on its website Tuesday, time-stamped at 5:31 p.m.
About five hours later, word spread to the general public: SU has a plan in place to begin bringing athletes back to campus for voluntary athletic activities. That process will start on Monday. It marks the first step toward the Orange playing a season this fall.
Syracuse’s operational plan was made with guidance from public health and government officials, the school said. Many of the details surrounding the situation, however -- return-to-campus protocol, Covid-19 testing and quarantining procedures, workout logistics -- remain unclear.
The Post-Standard/syracuse.com sent a series of questions to SU Athletics late Tuesday night. Wednesday morning, a spokesman said that no additional information will be shared publicly at this time.
So, here’s what we know and what we don’t know:
On returning to campus
What we know: Athletes will begin returning on Monday. They’ll be grouped in “pods” of no more than 10 and will not interact directly with any other players. Those groups will be formed, in part, based on housing assignments.

Axe: Dear Dino, When you’re ready, we’re ready (PS; Axe)
A voice has been missing from the flood of college coaches offering statements on the tragic death of George Floyd and the protests that have sprung up from coast-to-coast in the United States as a result.
We have not heard from Syracuse head football coach Dino Babers on Floyd’s death, the protests, Black Lives Matter or any of the issues that every American now has knocking on their front door whether they want it to be or not.
I can’t be the only one who has wondered why Babers has not spoken out, but the last thing I would do is presume to know why.
Some of the statements made by coaches and players from the football world on the events of the last 10 days in this nation have been gripping and heartfelt.
I would offer Miami Dolphins head coach Brian Flores, University of Maryland head coach Mike Locksley and Tennessee head coach Jeremy Pruitt as examples of seizing the moment.
There are so many things to appreciate with Brian Flores. But, the fact that he is speaking out during such a challenging time says so much about who he is. The Miami Dolphins are so fortunate to have him for so many reasons!
Here is his official statement: #FinsUP pic.twitter.com/iAsBSk8XEL

Syracuse Football: 2021 WR Jimmy Valsin would bring scoring and speed (itlh; Adler)
Syracuse football remains in contention for 2021 wide receiver Jimmy Valsin, who revealed his top eight.
Syracuse football already has one wide receiver in its 2021 class, and the Orange is firmly in the mix for the services of another wide-out in this recruiting cycle, Jimmy Valsin.
The 6-foot-3, 180-pound Valsin, out of James Bowie High School in Arlington, Texas, is a three-star football prospect who also happens to excel at track and field.
He took to Twitter to unveil his eight finalists, at least for now, and they are the ‘Cuse, Colorado, Utah, Houston, Oregon State, Illinois, Indiana and Kansas State.
That’s quite an eclectic group of contenders, as Valsin has included squads from the Atlantic Coast Conference, the Pac-12 Conference, the American Athletic Conference, the Big 12 Conference, and the Big Ten Conference.Top 8… ( recruitment still open )

2019 Recap: Tigers Stifle Syracuse In Dominating Fashion (SI; Priester)
The staff at AllClemson is taking a look back at the 2019 season game-by-game, featuring the highlights, momentum-changing moments and stars. Today we look at the week three matchup against Syracuse, the Tigers' first road game of the season.
Clemson would hit the road for the first time in 2019 for a Week 3 primetime matchup with Syracuse. A team that had given the Tigers all they could handle, and then some over the past two seasons.
The top ranked Tigers were a 27.5-point favorite and coming off of a stifling defensive performance in a 24-10 over Texas A&M, while the Orange had just been embarrassed Maryland 63-20 on the road.
Unlike the previous two years, it didn't take long for the Tigers to assert their dominance in this one. They scored touchdowns on two of their first three possessions and never looked back in a 41-6 win.

Liberty is one of seven G5 teams to play 3 P5 teams in 2020 (aseaofred.com; Manson)
Liberty is one of just seven Group of Five members to play three or more Power Five opponents in 2020.
The Flames are scheduled to face Virginia Tech, Syracuse, and NC State this fall. This is the second straight season Liberty has scheduled at least three P5 opponents, as the Flames faced Syracuse, Rutgers, Virginia, and BYU who is universally accepted as a P5 opponent despite being an Independent.
There are a total of 60 G5 programs playing college football. UConn, Colorado State, Hawaii, Kent State, Northern Illinois, and Utah State are the other G5 teams playing at least 3 P5 opponents in 2020.
UConn, a brand new Independent program in 2020, leads the way in playing five Power 5 opponents. The Huskies face Illinois, Virginia, Indiana, Ole Miss, and North Carolina. UConn currently has four P5 opponents scheduled for both 2022 and 2023.
Liberty’s only win against a P5 opponent in school history came in 2017 when the Flames defeated Baylor.

Will open seats be familiar sight in sports as virus fades? (AP)
Empty seats have been the norm the past few years at the University of Kansas, where a succession of football coaches has failed to turn around the flailing fortunes of the Jayhawks.
Now, all those open seats — and short lines and quiet concourses — will be the norm in stadiums just about everywhere.
The coronavirus pandemic has forced universities, leagues and franchises to evaluate how they might someday welcome back fans.
While opinions vary from sport to sport, nation to nation and even state to state, one thing seems clear: Social distancing is a sure bet when fans return. So don’t expect 100,000-plus fans packed into Michigan Stadium for a football game this fall or 16,300 seated inside Kansas’ storied Allen Fieldhouse when college basketball season rolls around.
“We don’t know how we’ll be coming back,” Jayhawks athletic director Jeff Long acknowledged. “We’ve modeled 15 to 16,000 in Memorial Stadium, and to be honest with you, we’ve modeled Allen Fieldhouse, and I can’t bring myself to look at it because I know how few people it will be and that’s upsetting.”
Most colleges rely heavily on ticket sales, souvenirs and concessions in football and basketball to raise the bottom line to the point that non-revenue sports can be fully funded. But smaller crowds are going to be necessary to ensure proper social distancing — in pro sports around the globe, too. Forbes estimates the NFL would lose $5.5 billion in stadium revenue if all games are played without fans, and the fallout for other leagues without lucrative TV deals could be catastrophic.

S Derwin James, Florida State (Chargers)
S Harrison Smith, Notre Dame (Vikings)
Adelson's reaction: "I have a simple reason for voting the ACC No. 1. They have the best player in the league on offense and the best player in the league on defense. How could anyone pick against a team that has both Lamar Jackson and Aaron Donald, plus that star-studded offensive line?"
Rittenberg's reaction: "Lamar Jackson's best days are still ahead with improved talent around him for the 2020 season. I really like both the offensive and defensive lines for the ACC, which boasts arguably the best interior linemen on both sides (Quenton Nelson, Aaron Donald). And the ACC's strength in the secondary nudges it ahead of the Big Ten, which has more pass-rushing punch (the Bosas, J.J. Watt) and an edge at wide receiver/tight end."

http://allsportsdiscussion.com/2020/06/02/ranking-the-5-best-quarterbacks-in-the-acc-for-2020/ (allsportsdiscussion.com; Fann)
Well here we go. It’s time to start ranking the best players in the ACC for the 2020 season. As usual we hope you enjoy the rankings.
1) Trevor Lawrence, Clemson
Trevor Lawrence is 25-1 as a starter. He’s led Clemson to two ACC Titles, two playoff appearances, and is 3-1 in the playoffs with a national title.
He would have been a top 3 NFL pick in his freshman and sophomore seasons. He will be a top 3 pick this year, and will likely be the number one pick if he comes out his junior season which we all expect. He didn’t throw an interception in his final 8 games in a season he threw for 3665 yards with 36 TDs and just 8 interceptions.
2) Sam Howell, North Carolina
The reigning ACC Rookie of the year is North Carolina’s QB Sam Howell. Howell had a fantastic freshman season with stats very similar to Trevor Lawrence. Howell had over 3600 yards in the air with 38 TDs and 7 interceptions. Howell reminded me of Matt Ryan when he was at Boston College the way he effortlessly handled blitzes that were thrown at him – as a freshman.
This might be the best pair of ACC QBs since Deshaun Watson and Lamar Jackson.
3) Micale Cunningham, Louisville
Quietly Micale Cunningham finished in the top 10 nationally in QBR rating. In 2019 Cunningham passed for 2061 yards with 22 TDs and only 5 Ints. He also ran for nearly 500 yards.
Micale Cunningham isn’t Lamar Jackson. Nobody is, but Cunningham has drawn some comparisons to Jackson. To even be discussed in the same sentence as Lamar Jackson though tells you the potential Louisville has at quarterback this year.
4) D’Eriq King, Miami
Miami may have picked up the best transfer in all of college football in QB D’Eriq King. In his last full season in 2018 at Houston, he had 36 TD passes and 6 interceptions while throwing for nearly 3000 yards. He also had 674 yads on the ground. King could challenge Cunningham has the best dual-threat QB in the ACC.
He actually entered the 2019 season as a darkhorse Heisman candidate. He could be the spark the Miami offense desperately needs.
5) Hendon Hooker, Virginia Tech
