Fashion-Day.jpg

Welcome to Fashion Day!

Fashion Day is observed to showcase one's fashion sense to the world. Participants wear their most fashionable clothing and share pictures of themselves on social media. Fashion can be defined as an aesthetic expression through clothing, as well as through footwear, hairstyle, accessories, makeup, and more. Fashion exists at a specific time and place and within a social context, and designates what dress is a "social signifier." It often is supported by the fashion industry and tied to a fashion season. It lasts longer than a "trend," and is distinct from "style," which lasts many seasons and is often connected to culture, cultural movements, and class.

NC State Wolfpack — 2020 Syracuse Football preview - The Juice Online (the juice; Cheng)

As we countdown to kickoff in September, we’re going to be doing a team-by-team preview each week over the summer. SU will continue its 2020 ACC schedule on November 14 against NC State.

DOWN SEASON

NC State coach Dave Doeren headed into the 2019 season with plenty of momentum. The Wolfpack was fresh off its second consecutive nine-win season, and its fifth straight appearance in a bowl game.

But a slew of injuries, instability at quarterback and the installation of a new 3-3-5 defense caused a major backslide for NC State, as they staggered to a 4-8 record, and a seventh place finish in the ACC Atlantic.

That led to a slew of offseason changes for Doeren, as he hired five new coaches, including new coordinators. He’s hoping that last year’s injuries were a fluke, his young quarterback is ready to take a step forward, and the coaching staff changes will allow NC State to reach the postseason for the sixth time in seven years.

OFFENSIVE STRUGGLES

Doeren established himself for being an offensive innovator, and 5,000 total yard seasons had become a thing of the norm. The team even came close to 6,000 yard in 2018.

But that wasn’t the case in 2019, with the team failing to top 28 points in a conference game, and falling to 12th in the ACC in total points. In fairness, the offense had key injuries along the offensive line and also at running back.

Perhaps the biggest factor for the struggles came from quarterback. Matt McKay started the first five games of the season before Doeren benched him in favor of freshman Devin Leary. McKay transferred to Montana State in the offseason, leaving Leary as the likely starter.

But the team will need a big step forward from him, as he completed just 48 percent of his passes last year. New offensive coordinator Tim Beck, freshly hired away from Texas, has other options under center, including sophomore Bailey Hockman and freshmen Ben Finley and Ty Evans.

Jason Henderson would give Syracuse football a strong trio of 2021 LBs (itlh; Adler)

Jason Henderson, a 2021 three-star linebacker, has put Syracuse football among his four finalists and plans to announce soon.

Syracuse football has found some solid momentum with its 2021 recruiting cycle, and the Orange possesses an excellent chance of adding to that class with three-star linebacker Jason Henderson.

The 6-foot-1, 210-pound Henderson, a rising senior at Delaware Valley High School in Milford, Pa., is down to a quartet of teams still under consideration, he revealed on Twitter.

His finalists are the ‘Cuse, along with Florida Atlantic, Old Dominion and Villanova. While nothing is ever a guarantee in these recruiting battles, my money is on Syracuse hearing its name called for Henderson.

At this juncture, one national recruiting analyst on the 247Sports Web site and one publisher on have logged predictions in the Orange’s direction for Henderson, who is a high-priority target for ‘Cuse coaches and is expected to reveal his collegiate destination in the near future, according to various media reports.

NC State, Syracuse make the top 6 for 2021 OL prospect Lyndon Cooper - ACCSports.com (accsports.com; Geisinger)

Lyndon Cooper, one of the top offensive guard prospects in the state of Georgia, has announced his top six programs. Among the half-dozen teams Cooper’s considering, two are on the Power Five level, both in the ACC: NC State and Syracuse.

The 6-foot-3, 315-pound Cooper, who plays for Carrollton (GA) High, made the announcement on his own Twitter account.

A 3-star prospect, Cooper projects out as an NC State commit, per Rivals. Currently, NC State has 15 commits for its 2021 recruiting class (No. 30 in the FBS); of that group, two are offensive line prospects: Jaleel Davis and Thornton Gentry.

Podcast: ACC football preview (orlandosentinel.com; podcast; Murschel & Parsons)

We breakdown the ACC in our weekly college football season preview series.

Forget the ACC, is Clemson the best team in the country?

Is this the year for UNC in the Coastal?

If not the Tar Heels, who could win the Coastal?

FSU and Miami - where are they are on their rebuilds?

And more on the ACC.

Miami football season has multiple scenarios per AD Blake James (caneswarning.com; Rubenstein)

Throughout the 2020 offseason, there have been a number of scenarios what is going to happen with the college football season. Hurricanes Athletic director Blake James spoke on Wednesday about the possibilities for the Miami football season.

In a conversation on the Joe Rose Show Wednesday morning, Miami athletic director Blake James spoke with the eponymous host and co-host Zach Krantz to discuss the potential scenarios that could playout for the 2020 Miami football season. James cautioned 59 days before the season starts a lot could still happen.

The 2020 Miami football season is scheduled to begin on September 5. That is eight weeks from this Saturday. The three main scenarios that James discussed with Rose and Krantz are the season starting on time without fans, an eight-game only ACC season and games being pushed back to the spring.

With Miami scheduled to play at Michigan State September 26, playing that game in the spring would mean the game would be played in cold weather. With training camps opening this month, athletic directors nationally are going to have to come to a decision soon how the 2020 college football season will progress.

The precautions that are going to be put in place for the players are another ongoing discussion for James both with other ACC athletic directors and for the non-conference games. Coordinating within the 14 ACC football teams and likely Notre Dame plus the other Power Five Athletic Directors will be a challenge.

David Bailey has the table set for big season at Boston College in 2020 - ACCSports.com (accsports.com; Geisinger)

With the departure of All-ACC running back AJ Dillon — now a member of the Green Bay Packers — there are big shoes to fill at Boston College. However, David Bailey seems up for the task, and it’s one of the reasons he’s poised for a monster 2020 season.

While Dillon carried an absurd workload, Bailey found utility over the last two seasons as a solid backup and spot starter. Similar to Dillon (6-foot, 250 pounds), Bailey is massive running back: 6-foot-1, 240 pounds.

During his sophomore season, Bailey ran for 844 yards and seven touchdowns on 148 carries — 5.7 yards per tote. Bailey put together two monster performances, too: NC State (16 carries, 181 yards, 2 touchdowns) and Syracuse (16 carries, 172 yards, 2 touchdowns). In the win over Syracuse, Bailey averaged 7.4 yards after contact, according to Pro Football Focus.

Only two players in the ACC last season had at least one game with 170+ rushing yards on 20 or fewer carries. Bailey hit those numbers twice, while Clemson’s Travis Etienne did it three times.

Good friends to have

As an entire conference last season, ACC offensive lines struggled — with two notable exceptions: Clemson and Boston College. The Eagles are once again set up to dominate along the line. First-year head coach Jeff Hafley is set to benefit from the work of Steve Addazio — recruiting and developing a strong line.

Why Should the ACC Realign Divisions? (RX; HM)

Why Should the ACC Realign Divisions?

The ACC is the only power five conference that has divisions which are not aligned geographically. Let that sink in for a moment. The SEC has East and West, and so does the Big Ten. The Pac-12 has North and South, but the ACC has... Atlantic and Coastal? Come on, man! What does that even mean?

But that's just the beginning of the problems with ACC divisions. Take a look at driving distances between schools. Within the two divisions, the average driving distance between two division-mates in the ACC is 559 miles; the average for all teams, regardless of divisions, is only 527 miles. In other words, the divisions are actually more spread out geographically than the conference as a whole! That, dear readers, is just totally, 100% unacceptable.

Dustin over at YouTube channel "College Football Chronicle" has sense enough to know that...

ACCN just for Old ACC teams? (RX; HM)

ACCN just for Old ACC teams?

This is a follow-up to "ACCN Bias? Looks Like It!"

The ACC Network is described as "a 24/7 national network dedicated to ACC sports" which "features regular-season and tournament games from across the conference’s 27 sponsored sports plus a complement of news and information shows and original programming." No, it doesn't specifically state that it will cover all teams equally, but you expect every team to be covered to some extent, right?

One Syracuse fan asked:

How many original TV programs has the ACCN made about Duke / UNC / UVa.?
How many have they made about Syracuse?
In researching the answer, I made some startling realizations...
  • Duke has "The Class That Saved Coach K"
  • UNC has "All-Access: A Season With Carolina Basketball", the Michael Jordan special AND a Vince Carter marathon.
  • UVA has "Unbelievable: Virginia's Improbable Path to a Title" about their NCAA men's basketball title AND "1186 to Omaha" about their NCAA baseball championship.
  • Many schools have nothing - or, at best, an episode of "ACC Traditions".

UNC-Chapel Hill announced an outbreak of COVID-19 among its athletic department on Wednesday that will halt the football team’s voluntary off-season workouts.

In a press release, the school said it conducted 429 tests of athletes, coaches and staff and 37 tests came back positive for the coronavirus. The Orange County Health Department has identified the situation as a cluster, which means there are five or more people who are positive for COVID-19.

The football team’s workouts, which are led by players without coaches present per NCAA rules, will be paused at least for one week.

UNC’s athletes returned to campus last month, with groups of athletes returning in phases. One group arrived June 12, another June 19 and two more arrived later in the month.

When the players arrived on campus, they were tested for the coronavirus. The school had previously said it wouldn’t be announcing coronavirus test results.

Now that there are 37 positive tests, the infected athletes will quarantine for 14 days at their permanent residence or in a residence hall specified by the university. That is in accordance with protocols the university established prior to allowing athletes to return.

Wake Forest Athletics is excited to announce a new name for the home of the Demon Deacon football team.

Starting with the upcoming football season, BB&T Field will now be known as Truist Field at Wake Forest.

"Wake Forest University is proud of its affiliation with the people of Truist and grateful for their longtime support of Demon Deacon student-athletes." Director of Athletics John Currie said. "As Truist continues its climb as one of America's leadIng financial institutions, we are excited that the 21st century's best college football program in North Carolina will now call Truist Field its home."

Originally built in 1968, the newly named Truist Field at Wake Forest is considered one of the most beautiful stadiums in the nation. The 31,500-capacity stadium has undergone significant renovations in recent years.

The renaming comes as a result of the merger of SunTrust and BB&T to form Truist, now the sixth-largest U.S. financial institution.

Syracuse recorded its twelfth 90 degree day of the year Wednesday afternoon and we are only in the middle of the hottest stretch of the year!. The cold front that brought showers and storms Wednesday washes out before it has a chance to move through Central New York so we remain in the heat on Thursday. In fact, it may be the warmest day yet of this current heat wave.

schools take out loans to pay for stuff all the time.. tell me they couldnt take out $10 million loan to cover 1 yr shortfall for sports revenue? Look at SU they have cut back, they could continue the cutback for 2-3-4 yrs add in the increase in revenue expected from TV and survive. but instead they will cut things, never bring them back and start spending again just like people do all over to get a new car/tv they really dont need.

We are facing uncertain and unprecedented times, and the health, safety and wellness of our student-athletes, coaches, game officials, and others associated with our sports programs and campuses remain our number one priority.

To that end, the Big Ten Conference announced today that if the Conference is able to participate in fall sports (men’s and women’s cross country, field hockey, football, men’s and women’s soccer, and women’s volleyball) based on medical advice, it will move to Conference-only schedules in those sports.
