Welcome to Clashing Clothes Day!
When something clashes, it comes into conflict with, or disagrees with something else. In today's instance, the things that are clashing are the colors on clothes. On most days the goal is to make clothes match, but not today! Today is Clashing Clothes Day!
How to Observe Clashing Clothes Day
In order to make sure you are getting your clothes to clash, start by avoiding neutral colors such as black, white, and gray. Navy and brown also match well with a lot of other colors, so don't wear them either. Then mix three or four other colors and see what you can come up with. You'll be clashing in no time!

Syracuse offensive line coach takes job at Arizona State (PS; $; Mink)
Syracuse offensive line coach Mike Cavanaugh is leaving for the same job at Arizona State, he confirmed.
Cavanaugh has coached the offensive line the past three seasons, arriving ahead of a landmark, 10-win season in 2018 and leaving after two calamitous, injury-filled seasons in which the play of the unit has come under heavy criticism and blame for the offense’s struggles.
His departure comes a month after SU signed five new freshman offensive linemen, including two from Hawaii. Cavanaugh played a hand in recruiting all five, and he was involved in SU’s recruiting efforts to add more depth to the position with transfers.

Report: Syracuse’s Mike Cavanaugh to be ASU’s Offensive Line Coach (houseofsparky.com; Loder)
As reported by Sun Devil Source, just one day after Klayton Adams announced he would be staying in the NFL ranks as the Colts assistant offensive line coach, Herm Edwards swiftly tabbed longtime college offensive line coach Mike Cavanaugh to take over the vacant position.
Cavanaugh, who served the last three seasons as Syracuse’s offensive line coach, originally interviewed for the job prior to Adams being selected.
His coaching resume is extensive, featuring 22 seasons coaching in the FBS on top of a brief stint in the NFL during the late 1990’s. His stops include Hawaii, Oregon State and Nebraska before arriving at Syracuse in 2018.
A true position coach, Cavanaugh hasn’t held a title other than offensive line coach in his career. For ASU, he’ll also be in charge of coordinating the run game.
Adams quick pivot was due to Indianapolis giving him a larger offer to remain with the organization.
His intent to join the Sun Devils was genuine, but the Colts felt the need to retain Adams following the departure of their offensive coordinator Nick Sirianni to become head coach in Philadelphia.
Cavanaugh is poised to take over an ASU offensive line unit that had a very successful abbreviated 2020 season. The Sun Devils led the PAC-12 in rushing yards per game, and ranked second in sacks allowed.

SU football is recruiting Texas transfer to boost offensive line (PS; $; Curtis)
Texas redshirt sophomore Willie Tyler received two football scholarship offers last week: one from Arkansas State and the other from Syracuse.
Orange offensive line coach Mike Cavanaugh extended an offer to Tyler on Thursday — two days after he entered the transfer portal — in an effort to strengthen the program’s depth at offensive line.
Tyler, a 6-foot-7, 335-pound lineman, said he decided to transfer from Texas because he was looking for an opportunity somewhere he can make an impact.
“I just felt like I needed a change,” Tyler told syracuse.com Tuesday evening.
Syracuse didn’t recruit Tyler during his original recruitment period. After spending the 2018 season at Iowa Western Community College, where he made the transition to offensive lineman, Tyler received interest from Louisiana Tech, SMU, West Virginia and Texas.
Tyler said he opted not to participate in the 2020 season because of the uncertainty surrounding the coronavirus pandemic. It also didn’t help that he caught a stomach virus that wasn’t related to Covid-19 that caused him to lose 10-15 pounds before the start of the season.

Cowboys 2021 draft prospects: Syracuse CB Ifeatu Melifonwu scouting report & interview (bloggingtheboys.com; Livesay)
As Senior Bowl week rolls on, one of the biggest names to keep an eye on is RS Junior cornerback Ifeatu Melifonwu out of Syracuse. Does that name sound familiar? It should.
Ifeatu is the younger brother of Obi Melifonwu, a former second-round pick by the Oakland Raiders in the 2017 NFL Draft. While Obi’s career hasn’t lived up to expectations, we must remember to scout the player, not the name, jersey, number, or helmet. Melifonwu is a special talent, and the hype should start to rise after this week in Mobile.

Mike McAllister of Syracuse on Sports Illustrated joins the show to discuss all things Syracuse basketball and football recruiting as well as what the loss of Syracuse OL Coach Mike Cavanaugh means for the Orange.
Orange Watch: The case for eliminating divisions in ACC football - The Juice Online (the juice; Bierman)
Item: The ACC is set to release the 2021 conference football schedule on Thursday. It will be interesting to see if Syracuse’s schedule indeed reverts back to its pre-pandemic structure; that is games against the other six Atlantic Division teams, and Coastal crossover matchups hosting Pittsburgh and playing at Virginia Tech.
Following last season’s modifications, this would be a good time for the ACC to abandon the two-division format permanently, knowing it won’t be this season, but should allow a season or two to wean off it, or at least move to a new rotation that ensures teams play more often.
For example, Syracuse fans will not see Miami in the Dome until 2024, after the former Big East rivals last met in 2017 in Miami. It’s a point that SU athletic director John Wildhack, who’s served on the conference football scheduling subcommittee, has lamented in the past.
“I think we need to figure out ways we can play each other (current Coastal schools) a little more frequently,” Wildhack said during a December press conference.
Assuming eight ACC regular season games remains the quota, each team should go to a “3-5-5” format. Play three teams every season; perhaps past legacy Big East foes B.C., Louisville and Pitt for SU, then alternate five ACC teams in even years, the other five teams in odd years for eight total games.
That would ensure Syracuse sees the likes of Miami, Virginia Tech, North Carolina, Duke, Georgia Tech and Virginia every other season, and in the Dome at least within every four seasons.

ACC releasing 2021 Florida State football schedule (tomahawknation.com; Marchant)
The 2020 college football season was like nothing we’ve ever experienced before as SARS-CoV-2 or the COVID-19 virus completely upended football and society as we knew it— even during the season several dozen more programs faced outbreaks and canceled or re-scheduled games, including FSU.
For Florida State Seminoles football, it was mostly a year to forget. The ’Noles played a 10 plus-one schedule of all-conference play with one non-conference opponent exception that looked wildly different than their original schedule. When all the dust cleared the Seminoles went 3-6 (2-6 ACC) and suffered a mass exodus of players.
Looking at the bright side, such an exodus has helped fuel significant roster turnover and hopefully left a group that has bought into what head coach Mike Norvell wants to do in Year
And so we turn to the 2021 ACC football schedule. It was previously reported, to some disappointment, that the league won’t use this opportunity to dissolve the Atlantic and Coastal divisions and will instead go back to the old (and poor) format of two divisions and eight conference games:
...Updated this: ACC schools agreed to play out the '21 season as scheduled pre-pandemic. That means 2 divisions and 8 conference games. https://t.co/yHy74eQAnd

You thought last weekend was cold in Upstate NY? Wait ‘til this one (PS; $; Coin)
Last weekend was the coldest of the season in Upstate New York.
Until this one.
Friday, Saturday and Sunday will be the coldest three-day span of the winter so far, with temperatures dipping to zero or below across much of Upstate. Throw in northwest winds, and wind chills will plunge to 10 below or colder. The Adirondacks could see wind chills as bone-chilling as 40 below.
“It looks like we’re going to see sub-zero wind chills three mornings in a row,” said Dave Nicosia, a meteorologist in the National Weather Service’s Binghamton office. “It’s more widespread and extensive than some of the cold we saw last week.”
Those winds could also deliver several inches of lake effect snow, especially west of I-81. With a relatively mild winter until now, there’s been little lake effect snow dipping down into Central New York.
“It won’t be feet of snow, but certainly some accumulating lake effect snow is something we’ll be watching this whole week,” he said.
This weekend will bring the first real blast of Arctic air to Upstate New York, Nicosia said. The coldest air from the Arctic has plunged down into Siberia and China this winter rather than North America. Earlier this month, Beijing recorded its coldest temperatures since the 1960s.
Now it’s our turn. The cold air will sink in from the Arctic via Quebec starting late Thursday, and that’s when winds will pick up, too. The high on Thursday is expected to be about 18 in Syracuse, but bottom out at 8 degrees Friday morning. Winds of over 20 mph will make it feel like 7 below.
