Micah Robinson and His Mother Michelle Robinson
Sr DE Micah Robinson Overcomes Tragedy; Hopes to Make NFL and Change Family's Lives (PS; Bailey)
For five minutes, Micah Robinson and extended family members searched for his little brother, William "Lil' Will" Locke.
Will had been playing in the in-ground pool in the backyard of Micah's cousins' house in Detroit. But while Micah was in the driveway shooting hoops, Will had gone missing.
"We were like, 'Where is he?'" Micah said "And then I think his swim trunks had floated to the top of the pool. So that's when we were like, 'Whoa.'"
The family found Will's body near the bottom of the pool, pulled him out and rushed him to the hospital.

Dyshawn Davis Impacts Syracuse Off the Field Too (espn; Hale)
Dyshawn Davis wore Syracuse gym shorts, a vest buckled to a rope and a red helmet labeled “common sense,” but what he was about to do seemed utterly incongruous with the headgear’s message.
The Syracuse linebacker stared out over the expanse of the Orenda Springs rope course in nearby Marcellus, New York, and his stomach turned and his mind raced. Behind him, dozens of kids shouted his name. Over the past five weeks, he’d seen those kids learn so much by trusting him, and he knew he couldn’t turn back now.
“That was something I’ll always remember,” Davis said. “It’ll stick with me my whole life.”

Ervin Phillips En Route to a TD at Fort Drum
SU Frosh Safety Rodney Williams Shines and More Observations From Fort Drum Scrimmage (PS; Mink & Bailey)
Rodney Williams followed up one exceptional play with another. First came a shoestring tackle for loss against wide receiver Ben Lewis. Then a near interception on an identical play to the other side.
On the next drive, he tipped away a pass intended for junior wide receiver Ashton Broyld in the end zone. And he followed that up on the next drive with an interception of starting quarterback Terrel Hunt, bringing the ball back about 15 yards.
Williams made one more pass breakup on the afternoon, capping off one of the most impressive performances of the scrimmage.

Frosh QB AJ Long Ahead in Battle for Backup QB Spot, Misses Scrimmage with Shoulder Injury (PS; Bailey)
The most surprising moment of Syracuse's scrimmage in Fort Drum on Thursday likely came in SU head coach Scott Shafer's press conference.
In the scrimmage, redshirt freshmen quarterbacks Austin Wilson and Mitch Kimble ran four and three drives, respectively. Freshman signal caller AJ Long, the third horse in the backup QB race, stood on the sideline without a helmet on for the duration of the scrimmage.
But Shafer said that Long's lack of playing time was not an indication that he's behind in the battle. In fact, Long has been ahead of Wilson and Kimble recently, Shafer said. He just didn't play on Thursday due to mild shoulder irritation.

SU Frosh WR Adly Enoicy Could Be Back Within a Few Weeks After His Surgery (PS; Bailey)
Syracuse freshman wide receiver Adly Enoicy could return within two or three weeks after undergoing surgery for a lower-body injury, SU head coach Scott Shafer said on Thursday.
Shafer said the procedure was to remove excess cartilage left behind from a prior surgery. The cartilage was getting "exacerbated" early in preseason camp.
"They think he'll be back pretty quick," Shafer said.

SU OL Omari Palmer's Offseason Was 'More Work That I Probably Have Ever Done' (PS; Mink)
Omari Palmer calls himself "the Pitt guy," and it's a tag that partly explains his motivation for reimagining his body in order to further develop in his third year. He took responsibility for allowing Pitt All-American Aaron Donald to slip past and block an extra point in a one-point loss last November. Palmer watched the play once on film. Never again.
"I know how it feels to be the reason we lose, and I don't have the fear of that pressure or that situation coming to me again because I've been there," Palmer said here following Wednesday's practice, where he once again ran with the first-team offensive line at left guard.
"I failed that time. Next time, I'll succeed at it."

SU Football Preview: Scott Shafer in Better Place Entering Second Year as Head Coach (auburnpub.com; AP)
No scrambling this year for Syracuse coach Scott Shafer.
"I feel more comfortable because I already did it once," said Shafer, who led Syracuse to a 7-6 record in 2013 and a bowl victory in its inaugural season in the Atlantic Coast Conference. "There's still not a lot of experience, but year two is a little easier than year one."
A year ago, Shafer had to hit the ground running after Doug Marrone's abrupt departure to take over the NFL's Buffalo Bills. The graduation of record-setting quarterback Ryan Nassib only heightened the anxiety for the first-year coach as he searched for a replacement.
In the end, he found one in Terrel Hunt, and he demonstrated a flair for the dramatic as the season wound down.
"I'm real excited to see how Terrel steps into his role of being the returning quarterback," Shafer said. "He had a great Texas Bowl and all those things, but that's in the past. He understands that. I just want to see him systematically get better from day to day, and I am excited to see his progress. There is a sense of calm knowing I trust the offense is in Terrel's hands."

Scott Shafer on Corey Cooper: 'You Don't Want to Have to Twist Their Arm Into Staying' (PS; Mink)
Scott Shafer said Thursday that he and freshman wide receiver Corey Cooper had a "heart-to-heart" about remaining at Syracuse but didn't want to "twist their arm" into staying once a decision had been made.
Cooper announced Wednesday night he intends to transfer, and he hopes to finalize where he will next attend school in as soon as a few days. Syracuse is restricting Cooper from transferring to another ACC school, Shafer said. It is not uncommon for a school to restrict intra-conference transfers.
"It's been a tough deal for him," Shafer said following Thursday's practice here at Sligh Field. "We had a heart-to-heart. In fact, we were texting back and forth this morning. He has some good options that he's looking at down there.

Corey Cooper's Father: Transfer Was Considered 'For a While' (PS; Mink)
Corey Cooper's father said his son had been thinking of transferring "for a little while" and hopes he will know where he will next attend school in as soon as a few days.
Cleo Cooper said Corey intends to transfer to another Division I school for the fall semester, but it's "possible" he drops down to a lower level of Division I or enroll in January.
Corey injured his shoulder and has missed the last few days of practice. He recently came to a mutual agreement with Syracuse coach Scott Shafer to move on. The coach has helped him through the transfer process, Cleo said.

Top NJ CB D'won Walker Lists Orange as Top Choice (PS; Bailey)
But does Syracuse want him?
St. Peter's (Jersey City, N.J.) Prep cornerback D'won Walker called Syracuse his favorite school in an interview with NJ.com on Thursday.
The 6-foot, 180-pound Class of 2015 target holds offers from SU and Pittsburgh, and has received interest from schools including Rutgers, UConn, Boston College, UMass and Temple, according to the story
"Right now, I'd say my favorite is probably Syracuse," Walker told NJ.com. "I went to visit the campus earlier this year and I liked it a lot. I got along with the coaches and the campus was pretty cool. It's about four hours away from my house, so it's pretty close to here.

ACC List of 6 Linebackers to Watch Includes SU's Dyshawn Davis and Cam Lynch (PS; Stevens)
...
Dyshawn Davis, Syracuse: The senior has started 35 of the Orange's 38 games over the last three seasons, missing only one contest (last year's loss at Georgia Tech) along the way. He's also developed a reputation as one of Syracuse's most reliable players over the course of his career.
Davis enters his senior season eighth in school history in tackles for loss (31.5) and should again be a crucial piece for an Orange defense that has a far better idea of what's awaiting it in ACC play in its second run through the league.
Cameron Lynch, Syracuse: He's been described as a freakish athlete, but more importantly he's also an effective one. Lynch ranked second on the Orange in tackles in his first season as a starter and had four sacks as well.
Combined with Davis, Lynch gives Syracuse a good chance to field one of the best linebacking corps in the ACC.
