The Cardinals (4-1) head up to Syracuse for a 7 p.m. Friday primetime game on ESPN in the Carrier Dome, Syracuse's cavernous hoops and football facility. Syracuse (2-2) is off to a mixed-results start, with a blowout win over Central Michigan but two rough losses to Notre Dame and Maryland and a skin-of-their-teeth win over Villanova. Louisville is the slight favorite ahead of the game. Of course, the Cards were the favorite the last time the teams met, too. Reflecting back: Veteran U of L players remember "bad" 2012 loss at Syracuse Let's run through five things to watch in Friday's matchup: 1. Is the offensive line ... Well, you know where this is going. It's a repeat member of the 5 Things to Watch series, and the answer is usually same. Is the offensive line any better this week for Louisville? Right now, the Cards' offensive front ranks among the worst in college football by several measurements. They just need to keep freshman QB Reggie Bonnafon alive. 2. Bonnafon's second start. Something tells me this will be Bonnafon's last start this season as long as Will Gardner comes back healthy from a knee injury. I realize there is a 49-percent chance I could be wrong here, but I just get the sense that Bobby Petrino wants to make the Gardner-as-QB thing work. Bonnafon's been solid in his backup role, and his performance last week earned, in my opinion, about a B, maybe a B-minus. This is a major test -- on the road, inside, primetime game. More U of L football: Bonnafon to start vs. Syracuse as Gardner returns 3. Containing Hunt. Syracuse quarterback Terrel Hunt is Syracuse's offense. He is a dual-threat signal caller who, much like Bonnafon, can get going through designed runs or scrambles. Shut him down, and Louisville wins. It's pretty simple. 4. Limiting turnovers. Here's where Syracuse makes things really interesting -- the Orange are among the best in the country at ball security. They don't turn the ball over. Louisville, however, coughs the ball up a lot. On the flip side, Syracuse's defense doesn't force very many turnovers, and Louisville's among the nation's best in that category. So, something's gotta give, right? 5. Ghosts of football past? As someone who regularly lets past results impact my psyche and ability to see current or future victories through, I can attest that there is something to the mind games that come with past experiences. Louisville was thumped in the Carrier Dome the last time several of its players -- 43 of them, to be exact -- played there. Does that come up at all in their heads on Friday night?
