SU football Signees Have Big Play Impact (Watertowndailytimes.com; St. Croix)
Chandler Jones was a two-star recruit before signing his national letter of intent to play football at Syracuse University in 2008.
After a highly successful three-year career with the Orange that included two All-Big East selections, Jones was selected by New England in the first round of the 2012 NFL Draft and started at defensive end to help the Patriots win Super Bowl XLIX last Sunday.
Jones’s path to stardom is the blueprint for the Orange’s 2015 national letter of intent signing class, which was revealed by SU coach Scott Shafer on Wednesday.

MONMOUTH JUNCTION -Dontae Strickland of South Brunswick officially committed to Syracuse on Wednesday, inking his letter of intent on National Signing Day.
The Greater Middlesex Conference Player of the Yearrushed for 1,200 yards and 17 touchdowns during his senior season, helping South Brunswick to an 11-1 finish and an appearance in the Central Jersey, Group 5 final.
"It's a relief off my shoulders, for my family as well," Strickland said on Wednesday. "Just to finally get the opportunity to take the next step and be able to play college football for the next four to five years at place that I really thought over a lot, and a my family loves it a lot, as well as I do, so it's just an honor."

Jake Pickard of Millburn Signs to Play for Syracuse (nj.com; Lanni)
Millburn defensive end Jake Pickard made his switch from Wisconsin to Syracuse official Wednesday morning after signing his National Letter of Intent with the Orange.
The 6-5, 230-pounder flipped his verbal commitment last weekamidst the coaching changes in Madison and landed in upstate New York where he is excited to make an impact.
"I was firmly committed to Wisconsin and very happy there, but when the coaching staff changed there was a little bit of uncertainty," Pickard said. "I decided, to be safe for myself, to reopen my recruiting process. I was still committed to them because you do commit to a university. I met the new coach, he was a very good guy, but I don't know how well my relationship with him could grow in the two, three, four weeks he was there. During that time, the coaches from Syracuse came to my house two times a week, they were always calling me, they came to the school a couple of times. Our relationship just grew from there."

Lakeridge quarterback Eric Dungey signed a letter of intent to play football at Syracuse University on Wednesday in front of family, friends, classmates and faculty at the school's library.
"It's awesome growing up here, small town, small school so its a great feeling right now," said Dungey. "I fell in love with the school when I went on my official and I couldn't see myself anywhere else."
The 6-foot-4, 200-pound senior also held offers from Air Force, Colorado State, Harvard, Montana State, UC Davis, UNLV, Wyoming and Yale.
