SU RB Target Robert Washington to Transfer to Public School (PS; Bailey)
Syracuse football priority target Robert Washington, a four-star running back in the Class of 2016, will transfer from SouthLake Christian (Huntersville, N.C.) Academy to East Gaston (Mt. Holly, N.C.) High School before the school year ends, according to Langston Wertz Jr. of The Charlotte Observer.
Komica Coote, Washington's mother, said in the report that a "family matter" led to the decision and that it was unrelated to SouthLake Christian, a private Christian school with fewer than 800 students enrolled from junior kindergarten to 12th grade. Coote did not want to elaborate.
The 5-foot-11, 215-pound Washington is ranked the No. 14 running back in the country by 247Sports.com and is set to choose between Syracuse, Alabama, Michigan, Florida, North Carolina and TCU on Saturday at 3 p.m.
He confirmed the decision in the report.
"I will do what I can, and run the ball as well as I can," he said. "One player can't change everything, but one player can affect the efforts of his teammates. They haven't really had leaders in the past and if I do what I can, I can try to help transform the team into a playoff contender."
