The walk-on sophomore was named to the watch list for the Lou Groza Award, annually given to the nation's top kicker. Make no mistake, this is no "everyone gets a gold star" situation. Murphy is one of only thirty kickers, thanks to his 2014 performance. As a freshman, Cole was 13-of-16 (81.3%) on field goal attempts and made two 50-yard boots. Murphy also found out that he will become a scholarship player next season. Rejoice, Murphy family. Now...to the other matter at hand. The Ray Guy Award is handed out to the best punter in the nation each year. They just released their watch list, consisting of twenty-five punters. Today, the focus is on some of the QBs on the roster, and what some of their futures may hold. Also in this episode, John Cassillo chats with Dan Lyons to discuss Orange recruiting, NBA free agency, and of course, talk beer. (It's 56 days away, for those keeping track) And that means we're prepping for this all-important 2015 season at SU. Each week, we'll preview another team on the 2015 Orange schedule, from week one through week 13. Today, we continue with the: Clemson Tigers School: Clemson University Mascot: Tigers #BRAND Slogan: "Hear Us Roar" Alternate #BRAND Slogan Suggestions: "DISRESPECK." There's plenty to criticize with Dabo from our end, but.. overall, you have to admit he's done a pretty impressive job at the school which has typically failed to string together this much consistent success. Recruiting over the last five years is l4th-best in the country -- again, pretty amazing considering the schools they're mixing it up with each and every time. A ton of that is due to some phenomenal skill/luck hiring assistants. With one of his best (Chad Morris) off to new opportunities in 2015, we'll see if he can hit the nail on the head yet again. 2014 Record: (10-3) (6-2) Recapping Last Season: Minus a ton of weapons on the offensive end, expectations at Clemson were largely hinging on a dominant defense last season. And it certainly delivered, carrying an injury-riddled group on the other side of the football. Those fireworks everyone was used to from Morris's attack were completely gone, instead replaced by the fireworks of a lethal pass-rush. Brent Venables has worked wonders since taking over right after the Tigers' disastrous Orange Bowl experience a few years back. And 2014 was the exclamation point on the project he's undertaken. ... The intrasquad scrimmage will start at 6 p.m. and follow a men's soccer exhibition against Georgetown at 4 p.m. The event is free and gates open at 3 p.m. Food, refreshments and prizes will be available and fans will have an opportunity to register to win prizes, including two seats in the Athletics Department Suite for a 2015 home game. Other activities in the Manley complex include SU volleyball and women's soccer players running activities at Wohi Field, inflatable bouncers for children and a merchandise trailer. The men's soccer team will sign autographs after their exhibition and football players will be available to fans at selfie stations after the scrimmage. SU fans will also be allowed to try on the 2015 Orange football uniform inside the Ensley Athletic Center and pose for photos with former football standouts on the plaza outside of the Ensley Center. ...
