It occurs on the Tuesday right after the first Monday in November[1](this does not necessarily mean the "first Tuesday" in a month because the first day of a month can be a Tuesday). We did get a little bit nicked up in the game. That's still a concern of mine. Reggie (Bonnafon) is going through the protocol for a concussion. That just works out with him and the trainer and the doctor and is a day-by-day deal. I know he's better today, which is a good thing. Lamar (Jackson) ran last night and he did get out and run with the team. We don't have the guys who played a lot in the game practice, so we'll have to wait and see how he does Tuesday in practice to see where he's at. (Sheldon) Rankins is getting better each day and we're encouraged to see that he'll be back and should hopefully be ready to go by Saturday. That's a good thing. He's a great player. We had guys step up when he was out of the game and really produce for us, which was a real positive. On Jaire Alexander's injury Jaire, I don't know because he wasn't with us (at Wake Forest), so we'll have to wait and see tomorrow. On Syracuse QB Eric Dungey He's a good player. I'm impressed when I watch him on video. He gets the ball out of his hands quick. He can make the throws they ask him to make. He's very athletic. He's very competitive. He's certainly a guy that we'll have to know where he's at, what formation they're in, how they're going to use him. They do so much with him. They throw the ball with him. They run option. They run quarterback draws. So we're going to have to have a great idea of what formations they're in and what personnel groups they have out there with him. On Brandon Radcliff and the running backs Obviously we're working hard to get more production. Just the other night, we felt like Jeremy Smith and LJ Scott would give us the best opportunity to do that, so they got the majority of the carries. On if Lamar Jackson will start at QB if he's healthy You'd think so, but we have to wait and see how he is and how the week plays out. ... Louisville Has QB Woes U0fL Football: Sizing Up the Quarterbacks (mycn2.com; Snyder) In last Friday’s 20-19 win at Wake Forest, Bobby Petrino used three quarterbacks. Freshman Lamar Jackson got the start, and got dinged up a bit. Sophomore Reggie Bonnafon, last year’s starter, then came in, but took a hard hit and ended up leaving with a concussion. So one time starter Kyle Bolin entered the game in the 4th quarter, and helped preserve the one point victory. Next up is Saturday’s home game against Syracuse. The 4-4 Cardinals (3-2 in the ACC) will be going for their first three game winning streak of the season, and also trying to get over the 500 mark for the first time this year. Syracuse (3-5, 1-3) has lost five in a row, but several of those defeats have been by 10 points or less. Saturday’s game kicks off at 12:30 p-m ET. The following weekend Louisville will host Virginia. The time for that game has also been announced. Once again the Cards will be kicking off at 12:30pm for the November 14th contest. Three Things Working in Scott Shafer's Favor Right Now (TNIAAM; Keeley) The drumbeat to end Scott Shafer's employment at Syracuse University is growing louder in the fanbase and not just in strange corners of Twitter. It's a topic of discussion now and an unavoidable one given that the team is now riding a five-game losing streak with the potential that we may very well not win another game. Personally, I still think we owe it to Shafer, the players and the program to let the season play out a bit more before we rush into any kind of final decision. I'm not ready to say anything for sure either way (which means I'm not against you just because your opinion is set in stone). Last week I presented four things that are working against Scott Shafer's bid for a fourth season at the helm of the program. A lot of those issues are only more magnified now. That said, it wouldn't be fair not to consider the issues that exist working in his favor, even at 3-5 (6-14 over last two seasons). Every Other Job Is Already Open Frank Beamer announced Sunday that he would be retiring at the end of the season, adding Virginia Tech to an already long list of available P5 head coaching gigs. And that doesn't even include other jobs that could be open such as Rutgers, Virginia, Purdue, Arkansas and UCLA to name a few. Couple all of that with schools like Temple and Memphis that are probably going to lose their head coaches to better opportunities (Ed. Note - And add Hawaii to the mix, too). What does it leave you with? A field in which it is extremely unlikely Syracuse could get the Shafer replacement it wants. Any big-time coaching prospect can find a better opportunity than SU out there. Even if there is a guy worth pursuing who will consider Syracuse, there's three or four other schools he'll be choosing from as well. ... Neikam said he's accepted a job working in commercial real estate industry in the Albany area, and his decision was based largely on the financial discrepancy between the two industries. He had positive things to say about Galaxy Communications CEO Ed Levine and the station but acknowledged the financial realities of sports radio made a long-term future challenging. "I think it's just the industry. that's the harsh reality of it," Neikam said. "Sports radio is a lot of fun, but unless you are Colin Cowherd or Mike Francesca, you're getting the short end of things. That's the industry as a whole." ...
