Lager is a type of German beer that is bottom fermented and lightly hopped. It is usually stored for at least three weeks after brewing before it is served. Lager is the dominant style of beer throughout the world, except in England where ale is the favorite style. The only real difference between ale and lager is that ales ferment and age quickly at warm temperatures, while lagers ferment and age slowly at cool temperatures. These different types of fermentation allow for a vast difference in flavor and aroma. To celebrate National Lager Day, head to your favorite pub and enjoy a refreshing brew of your favorite lager or try brewing your own! SU News In-Home Visit From New SU OCs 'Basically Sealed the Deal' for Commit Sam Heckel (PS; Bailey) Syracuse offensive tackle commit Sam Heckel was impressed with incoming SU assistants Sean Lewis and Mike Lynch during an in-home visit on Wednesday night, so much so that he reaffirmed his pledge. "I think the coaches are very optimistic and have a great plan to make 'Cuse a powerhouse again," Heckel said in a text message. "The in home basically sealed the deal." It was Heckel's first face-to-face interaction with members of Dino Babers' new staff. Lewis will be Syracuse's co-offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach while Lynch's role is not clear yet fully clear. Heckel said Lynch will coach the offensive line, but Lynch is also wrapping up his tenure as co-OC at Bowling Green. The 6-foot-5, 265-pound Heckel is rated three stars and the No. 86 offensive tackle in his class by 247Sports.com's composite rankings. He committed to the Orange on June 27 after an unofficial visit. After announcing his pledge, he said he valued academics as much as athletics. Year-in and year-out, the teams play similar styles of football: "tough," defensive-minded, run-heavy and offensively-challenged. Don't believe me? Look at the total offense rankings below, from the last four seasons: Team 2015 2014 2013 2012 Boston College 126 83 93 100 Buffalo 72 41 78 85 Connecticut 120 126 114 113 Penn State 106 114 43 53 Pittsburgh 76 43 98 71 Rutgers 85 76 96 107 Syracuse 119 116 86 17 Temple 94 120 75 110 UMass 66 51 122 124 Obviously it's glaring just how much these groups have struggled to play effective offense for the past four years, with few exceptions. Entertainingly enough, Syracuse's 2012 team is the only top-40 group of the entire sample. And there were only three more top-50 teams (2014 Pitt and Buffalo, 2013 Penn State) in total. In 2015, no Northeast team ranke above 66 (UMass) in total offense. Over these four seasons, 15 (!!!) different Northeast teams have finished ranked 100th or worse in total offense. That's awful. And of course it's going to have a trickle-down effect on recruiting, where these teams a) recruit the same type of player, and b) the best offensive talent in the region leaves. Or... it did leave. And was leaving, until Syracuse hired Dino Babers. Yesterday, I tried to make the case for it being one of the best moves of college football's offseason, in large part because of the emphasis on offense. What have Bowling Green's numbers looked like under Babers?
