Who would you honestly believe would replace him? There aren't available options better than Shafer and if there were, they aren't coming to Syracuse.

Another thought...if Shafer is gone, would you want him on the staff as the DC? Or removed from the staff completely?

Simply not true. Not advocating either way but this post is nonsense
Look at the jobs a lot of good candidates took last year. Better coordinators than shafer taking jobs at Houston Tulsa

If that were the case, Coyle would have never taken this job.

This goes behind he has an active contract as reasons to keep him.

Team is very young and even though no one likes hearing it we really are a play or 3 from 5-2. People should just stick with that as the reason to keep him.

People are going to overdo the bad luck point but I actually agree with it yesterday. My opinion of the coaches is a little better than before the game even though the pooch showed that shafer isn't sharp. But this was just a loss to me. Nothing earth shattering

Baloney

This program is not where it was when Robinson was here. The fundamentals of this job are vastly improved.

24 pts, run more plays, and figure out how to get off the field.

They almost did it and looked much better almost getting there.

Looked a little like 2012 yesterday. Base with three wide, one tight. Occasional two back set to mix it up.

It was a start.

We have such a loser attitude. I said this in another thread and I'll say it again. There are 60 or so fbs HC jobs in the whole world. There are what 40 other d1 HC who are not fbs, 100s of fbs and d1 coordinators, tons of ex-coaches both pro and college, tons of d2 coaches. We really believe no one of that huge pool will take one of the only 60 something positions that are at the top of the college ranks?

We're not going to get nick Saban, but we already had nick Saban because he coached here for a year. The university has got to simply do a better job of picking a coach. Maybe they should have kept Saban all those years ago?

Gross was really bad at picking coaches for football...He wasn't ready with GROB, he got lucky he was outvoted on marrone, and the biggest mistake was not conducting a search with HCSS. I don't think Coyle is going to be so unprepared and I'm positive we will get a number of candidates, done that we've heard of some that we haven't.

I bet there are people very confused about them scoring just twenty when the offense looked better

and that's the frustrating part. In today's game, 20 is absolutely nothing. We think the offense is improving but that's based on 1980's offensive numbers. I agree; the offense looks better, we have good talent, and smarter play calling. But the reality still is, 20 points is not good in today's CFB world

They are good per play but they're all big plays they play slow and stink on defense. They've found a new way to break yards per play. Usually it means points

Yeah - encouraged by the talent and QB. Not encouraged by only playing one half of offense again.

Mathematically at some point you would think it would have to. Maybe that's a good sign for the rest of the season

I don't advocate replacing Shafer, but the idea that nobody available could be better is absurd.
