Man, its unfair to Fred Reed since I don't know whether he's doing well or not with coaching our DB's, but I'd make the change right now. If we don't offer him a job now and he is being recognized nationally for his recruiting chops, he won't be available for long.  I would expect him to make the move to SU if offered simply because of his connection to SU and the step up to a rising P5 team that is sure to win ACC conference championships within the next few years (hoping!)
