Is this the future of college basketball? That was excruciating! We were all booing the refs, even when they called fouls on Fordham. God help us.

Kind of good Kentucky lost, though.

First, it probably lessens as the season progresses. Second, hopefully it rids the world of people like Aaron Craft that foul 48 times a game w/out being called for one.

Going to be a lot of fouls called in order to make the game better.

They need to do this to fix the game. The way it was being played was terrible.

I was thinking of starting this exact thread. Don't know if there is more scoring, but it sure has slowed the game down. The players better get a handle on this or it could get boring to watch. I would think the teams and players will have it all worked out by conference time. At least I hope so, as a lot of the enjoyment is gone at this point.

Teams/players will adjust. Can't complain about teams that slap hands all the time and then turn around and complain when refs tighten up and call fouls.

My question is when did coaches decide to teach defense with hands instead of moving your feet and getting in good contest positions?

Peggy. I went out to dinner for the 2nd half thinking we were ok. I was following along on my phone, and all I saw was foul, foul, foul. So and so to the free throw line. So and so misses the first end of the one and one. So and so makes the first free throw. Every 6 or 7th line was an actual real basketball play. It really stands out when you are reading a play by play. I was wondering what the hell was going on...

Speaking of whom - I see he his in his 8th year of eligibility.

Linda. I can only imagine the ghastliness of your experience!

I hope people are right and this will be a short term problem that will yield a better game in the long run.

I think once conference play starts up, the refs will go back to their old ways. We are in good shape, whether the new rules get enforced strictly or not, because we don't play that way.

It would have been interesting to see the new enforcement of the old rules back when we played against opponents known for their physical play, and how our course may have differed.

Last night against Ohio he was whistled for 4 fouls in 37 minutes, against Morgan St in 32 minutes 1 foul.

Huh, I gotta watch an Ohio State game to see if he really changed up his style...

If they are not careful it could regress to something like when they used to have one-shot fouls back in the late 60's. It made for longer games and disrupted flow..

I am all for the new rules on the perimeter. Teams are going to have to change. This is good for the game in the long run. The NBA did this in the early 2000s and scores went up. I'm all for this. Teams like duke, Louisville, osu and Pitt will need to change their style. Duke clearly did not adjust to the rules last night. 29 fouls for them. I was sick of seeing refs swallow their whistles for all of those teams. This hurts syracuse less than other teams. A lot of us complaining about the whistles this week, are the same people who were complaining Triche and mcw got mugged by Louisville in the big east final.
