2007-2008 (latest I could find data) big east has 36.3 fouls per game in conference, 37.1 out of conference. implies that other conference call games tighter

acc has 39.2 fouls per game in conference, 37.2 out of conference

acc has a slightly higher standard deviation than the big east which implies that ACC refs are a little less likely to feel like they can't call too many fouls on a team (the way the Big East does with Louisville and Pitt)

it's interesting that even though your eyes can see that there aren't any ACC teams like Pitt or Louisville because they've learned that it doesn't fly with those refs, they still get more fouls called. those teams are going to have a tough time adjusting.

the foul numbers look the same in different years. ACC always calls more fouls and always has a wider distribution of fouls

good riddance big east

Could it be that the more up tempo style of play in the ACC results in games with more possessions and thus more opportunities for fouls to be called?

Yea. Its not like JB had 30 years to adjust to the BE.

This goes here now.

Blasphemy, but I agree with ' UConn troll. This continued whining is beyond pathetic, IMHO.

care to respond to the actual post?
Not really.
But if your point is that games are called "differently" in the ACC, then OK- the numbers may just prove it.
How this will equate to the newcomers going into that league is unknown since the officiating COULD evolve to accommodate the rougher style of play, as opposed to staying the same as your post implies.
My point is that focusing on officiating is a fruitless exercise. Its a part of the game and whether its for you or against you, you deal with it...and move on. Period.

In case you don't know, we have the best record in the history of the league. A good 40 games ahead of both you and G-town. Most teams play clean basketball in the league. Pitt and the Ville don't. I think it is what has haunted Pitt in the NCAA Tournament. Now, about next years UConn vs Tulane games, barn burners.

You should be saying good riddance too. Remember how you're not in the league anymore? Or any league, really.

You can put me down for one dozen roses on Valentine's Day, assuming my car stops at the UConn red light. Don't wash the windows though, I don't care for the streaks.

Perhaps it's our demonstrably less physical style of play.

No, JB would rather coach according to the rules of the game, instead of becoming a cheating scumbag who takes advantage of a thug league.

I prefer JB's style.
