I haven't posted on this subject because I have trouble thinking rationally when it comes to child abuse. If someone was charged with child abuse, trust me, they NEVER want me to be on their jury. And this may not be particularly deep or insightful, but it's just amazing to me how that whole family's identity is wrapped up in Joe Paterno. Now my dad was never famous (but is 1000 times the man that Joe Paterno ever was) but if he was famous, I feel he would still want me or my brother to establish our own lives and identities and not live off his. If we wanted to be football coaches , that would be fine. But still have our own lives. But it's as if this family has nothing without that damn record or his football accomplishments.. Sure they mentioned the victims in passing in a couple statements, but overall, the Paterno family has mainly been vocal about the damn sanctions and how they affect football and his stupid record. They could have tried to turn this into a positive as best as they could by saying that they love their father/husband, but he made a terrible, terrible mistake. And then established a legitimate foundation to help with child abuse or done SOMETHING to fight child abuse. I really thought the NCAA did a good job with the sanctions but now I am leaning towards the death penalty would have been the best solution. That place obviously just doesn't get it.
