I’ve hesitated from posting so I can decompress a bit. Coach Mac won 2 games his second year. Those 2 wins came from Rutgers and Colgate. Guy was 6-15 through his first 2 years. Over the next 4 seasons he went 6-5, 6-5, 7-4, and 5-6. 6 years, 30-36. If he was fired after his 6th year, he’s an uninspired footnote in Syracuse history. You can add whatever context you want but I’d argue the job is extraordinarily more difficult now. I guess my point is, yesterday sucked. This season sucked. But when I take a step back and look at the last two years… Alum relations are better than they (I have seen) been in a very long time. We have re-established recruiting connections in our home state and across the east coast. Up until recently we’ve been talked about on a national level in a (mostly) positive light, from people who used to joke about not knowing we still had a football program. We had a lot of momentum and a lot of positive energy surrounding the program, that we, honestly, haven’t really had in my lifetime (I’m 35 and yes Donavan McNabb and company took place during my lifetime but I was too young to really understand/appreciate). When I look back and read about Coach Mac’s tenure as SUHC, I realize it takes time and patience to build. So, to me, the question really becomes, do I think/believe HCFB is the right guy to exercise that patience? I’m still betting on Fran Brown.
