The biggest thing this season is we have a blend of his players and the holdovers that are accustomed to quitting. If he came in with a blank check then this roster would’nt suffer from the same woes we’ve seen over and over.

Sure the staff has their own improvements to make in the short term, but the biggest driver of long term success would be giving Fran time and resource to flip the roster in his image. Less IOL whiffing blocks, less Dino era defensive players wiffing tackles, more dudes that are actually relentless through the whole game.

In general, we could hire anyone and give them a blank check and expect elite talent to perform on our roster. Heck give me $100 million to spend and I’d get us on the edge of the playoffs,

the reason Fran is going to be special here is because he can take comparable resources to other programs and exceed expectations for talent acquisition, because he is a special recruiter. When you take someone who is already talented at a job, and give them more than comparable resources, even if only a bit more, that’s when things can really thrive.

I think this is the circle this program has been in for 25 years. Coach needs to recruit his guys, Coach needs more resources! Then when we lose, we say we don’t have enough talent, can’t compete, slow, coach can’t recruit. Poor game management. O line stinks.

Fran just needs 8 wins and quite honestly he has to continue to recruit better players and weed out the weak links in his coaching staff. Needs another big portal effort as well. We either need to find a better o line coach and o line talent or find a true dual threat qb.

I don’t know what to make of this current recruiting class, ton of numbers, lot of athletes with solid measurables but quite a few guys that will need 2 years at a minimum.

The driver of long term success will be the development of Fran’s recruits from his normal HS recruiting classes. His 2024 class brought Watson, Barnes, Willis, and a few others in the 2-deep. His 2025 class is topping 30 commits - not many from the top 1000 national recruits but a group that committed early in the cycle.

The blend with holdovers who “are accustomed to quitting”? What are you talking about? Allen, Pena, Gadsden, Villari, Wax, Barron, Clark, Perry, Jobity, Jaquez, Reed, Petry, Bradford - solid contributors before Fran as well as this season. No need to denigrate the hold overs. Yes, we want even better OL in the future, but this group is giving everything they have. A big part of whatever success 2024 will see.

Agree. The returning players have been a reason for success this season. Also, the transfers have also been a big reason. Fran was able to blend both.
Both lines still have issues. Fran is bringing in players with great measurables on both lines but it will take a couple of years for most of them. I think we will get good contributions from players in the 24 class in 25 that saw limited action this year.
Fran will go into the portal to fill needs. I expect qb, OL, and cb to be the main focus. We do return a lot on D if the stay but will loose Diggs, wax, Clark, Lewis and possibly Barron. Offensively we need to replace four Oline, qb, Gadsden, Meeks, and possibly lqa. That’s some big shoes to fill.
There will be some coaching changes but not many. Right now only see st unless others get hired away.
Still four more games. Love Fran’s comments that the bowl game was expected (floor) versus in the past the ceiling.

this. He was hired to bring in better talent and the 25 haul seems like a step backwards compared to the guys he brought in his first year. No immediate impact players.

He better kill it in the portal or next year’s schedule could undo everything.

Tbh I don’t remember Dino teams being this poor at tackling. It’s more of a coaching issue than talent imo. We had a great DC in Tony White.

Let’s remember that this is ERob’s first go at being a full-time DC so he’s still pretty green. Let’s hope he and his staff continue to figure it out and make improvement. IMO the D has been a pretty big disappointment this year considering the talent/experience brought back. The injuries on the D-line haven’t helped.

Next year is going to be really interesting in terms of roster construction.

It doesn’t really do any long-term good to replace our IOL guys with transfers for 2025, since continuity on the OL is key. The 7 OL commits for the 25 class so far indicates Fran wants to rebuild internally, but OL takes time to develop, so how to you balance that? Will Rosahac or Goodacre be ready as RS Frosh? Is Joe Cruz able to step up? How much can you rely on that?

Pretty obvious we need speed upgrades at a few spots. Wouldn’t surprise me to see them turn over the younger guys at WR and LB with higher ceiling players.

With that said, they’ve done well this year and can realistically envision that this is going to be the floor for the program for the next few years

I think 8 wins this year is a huge success, next year's schedule is absolutely brutal, one would think if we have any chance at "success" he is going to have to hit the portal hard. I like this 2025 class lots of potential but with that schedule you need to hit the portal in key areas. I think Fran will do just that, he will be that guy who can appeal to transfers. I think he will be able to get those kids from the SEC who were not making an impact to come to Syracuse and potentially start. Just my opinion but I do not think our starting QB for Tennessee is anybody we have on the roster or committed yet.

Don’t think that’s really fair to Dino or the guys he brought in that are still here and are the leaders of this team. We won yesterday because of the warrior like efforts from plenty of guys from Dino, Lequint and Wax being absolute dawgs, Duce w the first forced fumble just to name a few.

Who's money?

I think we will end the regular season with 9 wins and depending on who we see in a bowl game and if McCord plays might hit 10.

Next year we just need to get to 6-6. Get one road upset from Clemson ND or Miami and its a great year.

Clemson could implode and Miami and SMU should be down vs this season. The easier ACC games are at home.

We are truly lacking solid run stopper 1 tech and a pash rushing 3 tech. We have no lock down corners at all. We definatly can improve easily next year defensively.

agreed. ERob has a long way to go before he comes close to Tony

Will Dave W be back.

Big question will be center.

Fran needs his 8-9 wins this year to show progress & have a story to tell. Without it, things could get stale. Especially w next years schedule.

Needs to replace McCord, Gadsen, Wax, Diggs & some others. Needs immediate help who can compete at their level. Hitting the portal hard every year is the new norm.

Hope he works on coaching improvements as well. Need to coach these guys up. Need better tackling & specials.

I don't think Fran (or anyone) has time anymore. With the portal 1-2 year turnarounds are possible.

Needs to he competitive next year. Going 4-8 & getting blown out would make it hard to recruit. Would be great to go 6-6.

the more I watch the more I wonder how Gadsden makes the NFL. very little oompfh to his game. Smooth but no urgency.

Yeah, for sure. That didn’t make it in to my post because I didn’t feel like preemptively explaining that Ilaoa is out of eligibility.
General Reed will be done too.

I vaguely recall Josh Miller (maybe it was someone else) working some at center during camp. Maybe that's the continuity plan.

Tony is a far better coach than ERob. Can’t believe anyone would even compare. This defense is brutal
