I think our "one type" of offense is a bit broken as well. We're constantly calling routes that, if picked, get housed. You can do that with NFL talent at QB because they wont make the throw unless the DB is back footed but you cannot game plan on MCCord being under center every year. So in that regard I think we do need a 2nd, less risk prone" part of the playback. Only sideline passes should be deep, option and sweep runs to the outside, get mismatches in coverage between the tackle box if the defense cheats to edges. Literally 20 plays, 10 pass and 10 run, and practice only those until we do those well. Make them look similar and make them repeatable. It's not as terribly difficult as we make it look. Give QBs a one read for the Edge or Safety if the play is outside or in. Do NOT hang the ball in the air 15 yards if it only travels less than 5 on the sticks when defenders are jumping everything. First read not there? QB can run or check down to RB that chips or releases. We're obviously not fooling opposition DCs at this point regardless so why not try and bully them? Now fair amount of this is learning curve for the coaches as all 3 major coaches are not used to coaching talent deficiencies to the level we have anytime recently. We aren't currently nfl, UGA, Baylor, etc talent wise but we're still running a lot of those plays. None of those institutions will ever have the talent or depth gaps, due to draft or recruiting areas, that we've had this season once the 1s go out. Presume the coaches will learn but also hope we'll never run this lean again given our new found ability to recruit. Just a lean year after losing everyone last season and largely relying on Dino's last 2-3 recruiting classes and missing on a fair few portal guys, which are usually a bit if a crap shoot, as this year's upper classmen. It can all be salvaged though if we hold on to top half of this year's recruiting class as well as the obviously talented players from last AND the coaches are humble and learn.
