I know we are only six games in but it looks like we will be an excellent free throw shooting team this year. Will be very helpful down the stretch in close games.

Buddy: 100% (only 3 attempts, but I'm sure he will be in the 80s)
Joe: 86.7% (that will probably increase)
Marek: 86.4%
Griffin: 83.3%
Kadary: 81%
Q: 66.7%
Woody: 62.5%

78% for the team. Nothing new. We have been an excellent free throw shooting team for most of our...oh, wait

Sid's coming back...

He did start making free throws towards the end of the season and hopefully his progress continues.

We are currently 7th in the country in free throw percentage at 79.8%, which is extremely unusual for any SU team.

ESPN's stats only go back to the 2003 season, but no other season has been anywhere close to this. Next closest was last year at 74.1%. In seasons in the 2000s/early 2010s when we were awesome, we were always below 70% as a team.

Don't get me wrong, I would welcome AO and Josh Pace, etc. back with their miserable foul shooting in a heartbeat. But this is one bright spot of our team.

Colorado is #1 in the country at a pretty staggering 84.1% as a team. Rutgers is 338th out of 340 at 59%.

That is one bright spot. It lost us some games in the 80s and 90s

AO would average 5 points a game on this team.

If someone were to ask "who do you want at the line in a late game situation?" I feel like 95% of our fans would say Joe, but he's actually our 4th best foul shooter right now.

AG 87.2%
Buddy 85.7%
Marek 85.3%
Joe 78.8% (33 attempts)
Is there a stat for shooting percentage in the one and one situation ?

i feel most confident in Marek

Pretty crazy to think about how many wins we have historically, many times with poor FT shooting. Like the ability to still overcome it. Granted many of our teams had a bigger emphasis on bigger players who are typically worse shooters. And the game is different. Still.

One of the positives about Marek at the 5. It gives us 5 guys on the court who can make FTs.

Wow, ready for this stat?

This season so far we are 278/349 from the line = 79.66%

Joe on the year is 26/33 from the line = 78.78%

If you subtract Joe's free throws from our total that leaves you with 252/316 = 79.74%

Joe is hurting our team's total free throw percentage. We are officially in a bizarro world.
