In my opinion yes there is a chance he returns I would say 50% chance.
 
He won’t be drafted so either he will take his chances on a 2 way contract (which he should be able to get), come back to SU or portal.

If I was him I would go back home and transfer to Maryland. Derik Queen has had a fantastic season and I think they will make good use of his skills and probably toughen him up.

Hell be able to go wherever he wants. Sadly this will Kadary part 2 ……he’ll end up Playing really well for an elite program (Kadary could have went anywhere he wanted last year)

This is why it is particularly frustrating that the one area Red has shown success is HS recruiting. It is unreasonable to expect freshman to dramatically improve a bad team. And if we can’t retain the talent that we recruit, what’s the point? I would love to see Freeman and Moore come back, but given the dumpster fire this year has been and the options available to players, it’s hard to feel optimistic they would choose to return.

They say there will be money this year for the portal and NIL, if that is true I hope they make it very difficult for Freeman to leave, if he leaves it continues the growing narrative that Syracuse isn’t a serious basketball program.

I fear things will get worse before there is a chance they can get better.

If they keep Red (as all indications say is a done deal) ‘25-26 is a make or break year and while I hope for the best, I expect it may be very ugly.

I think Freeman will be a key indicator. If we can match any other NIL proposal and he leaves--that says a lot about program perception from the inside. If he stays, then maybe things on the inside are not as bad as we think--especially if he takes a discount to stay.

The problem with that is it can't be Freeman and the freshman. The team needs an elite PG and an elite Defensive C to compete. If they don't have that it doesn't matter if Freeman comes back or not. If I was Red I would not pay anyone Freeman - JJ - White - or whoever until I have my Elite Portal PG signed and My Defensive Starting Center signed.

For his sake, let's hope it's a team that teaches and expects tough defense.
Or, in his case, at least some defense.
 
Pitino may have the right idea in not recruiting frosh, though there should definitely be some exceptions.

Is there anything that prevents a two year NIL deal for high schoolers ? One year deals no longer work for the majority of HS recruits in terms of enabling the schools to compete at a NCAA tournament level.

Two years should be the new norm with the kid having an out if he is good enough and chooses to go pro.
 
Love it if he stays but my gut is telling me he hits the portal to pursue a strong NIL payment and advance his draft status for 2026.
 
He needs a better S&C program than we offer. He also needs a coach who is going to demand toughness.
Only time he looked tough this year was when he struck that boxing pose.

Yeah, I don't think he got what he needed here this year development-wise, that is for sure... and bombing out of the draft was not on his bingo card going into the season I bet.

Derik plays totally different than Donnie. Derik is strictly a low block player. He can step out, but he’s a willing low post player. Donnie likes to float around the perimeter.

Good point. Donnie has the ability to play in the paint more. He needs that aggression.

Sadiq and Donnie as 4/5 (no true center) with a strong shooting portal three and big time portal PG.
