still picking up sacks and closing in on hof numbers
still picking up sacks and closing in on hof numbers
No way he is a "shoe-in" and easy there with the most feared pass rusher of his era when you have Michael Strahan, Jason Taylor, Julius Peppers and Jared Allen in his era and they all have more sacks than Freeney. You have guys like Taylor who have 20+ more sacks than Freeney in the same amount of years played. He has to be a shoe-in hall of famer, right? The dominance. The stats. The longevity. He was arguably the most feared pass-rusher of his era. Offenses had to game plan around him. He played on an Indy team that did not have a very good defense. He was literally double teamed, triple teamed, chipped, etc. and he still put up all those numbers.
i don't know the rankings but freeney forced so many fumbles, he has gotta be near the top in forced fumbled per game. sacks are great but they get way too much attention and forced fumbles gets way too little, I thinkNo way he is a "shoe-in" and easy there with the most feared pass rusher of his era when you have Michael Strahan, Jason Taylor, Julius Peppers and Jared Allen in his era and they all have more sacks than Freeney. I don't think Freeney gets in. The man 3rd all time on the sack list isn't in the Hall of Fame (Kevin Greene). Guys with more sacks who "should" get in before him in the next decade or so are Taylor, Allen, Peppers, Ware, Rice. It's gonna be tough for Freeney and I just don't see it happening with only 115 career sacks and 20th all time on the list in regards to sacks.
Rice in front of Freeney, ok.No way he is a "shoe-in" and easy there with the most feared pass rusher of his era when you have Michael Strahan, Jason Taylor, Julius Peppers and Jared Allen in his era and they all have more sacks than Freeney. This is exactly what could tip the scales in his favor.i don't know the rankings but freeney forced so many fumbles, he has gotta be near the top in forced fumbled per game. sacks are great but they get way too much attention and forced fumbles gets way too little, I think

He is still 10 or so sacks away from HOF stats. He was only the most feared pass rusher on his team for a few years.
It will be iffy because of his last 5 or 6 years. and then he has the 2 duds in his prime (1 of which he missed 6ish games)
And even after Freeney's basic non-existence in the league the last three years, he still has the edge on Mathis in career sacks.
