Yes! McCullough Officially Has Qualified (PS; Ditota)

Syracuse basketball recruit Chris McCullough achieved a qualifying score on an ACT and expects to be here next month to start summer school, a source said this morning.

McCullough, a 6-foot-9 forward from the Bronx, is one of two Orange recruits in the 2014 class. He had been waiting for a test score that would allow him to attend classes at SU this summer.

McCullough Will Play in Mary Kline Classic on Saturday (PS; Waters)

Syracuse recruit Chris McCullough, fresh of receiving a qualifying score on the ACT, will take the court for the Mary Kline Classic on Saturday at West Orange (N.J.) High School.

McCullough, a highly-regarded 6-foot-9 forward from the Bronx, had been waiting to learn his score on the ACT. He received a qualifying score on his latest test, a source said today.

On Thursday evening, McCullough talked to Mary Kline Classic director Alex Kline and told him that he would be able to participate in Saturday's high school all-star doubleheader. Kline confirmed McCullough's decision to play in a text message.

Will the Early Departures of TE and JG Hurt the Syracuse APR? (PS; Waters)

Q: How do the early departures of Jerami Grant and Tyler Ennis affect Syracuse's APR score? That is 5 players leaving early over the past 3 seasons. This has a negative effect on our APR, right?
Jory

Mike: It's likely that Syracuse will not have its Academic Progress Rate (APR) affected by the early departures of Jerami Grant and Tyler Ennis to the NBA. This is because both Grant and Ennis finished their academic courses for the recent spring semester.

The way the APR is administered, a school's APR isn't negatively impacted if a student leaves school in good academic standing. It doesn't matter if a student-athlete has graduated or not, only that they completed the necessary academic requirements up to the point that they were in school.

T-Minus One Day for Moose Decision (TNIAAM; Keeley)

rd on the street is that 2015 recruiting target Moustapha Diagne is deciding between the Syracuse Orange andMemphis Tigers. Word is also on the street that he is going to announce his decision this Saturday at the Mary Kline Classic.

The 6'9" C/F originally from Senegal plays for Pope John XXIII in Sparta, NJ where he is rated among the top 30 players in the nation by Scout and ESPN. He also holds offers from UConn, Rutgers, Villanova, West Virginia, Cincy and Oregon State, amongst others.

The good news is that Diagne is probably getting worked over pretty hard by his fellow Mary Kline Classic participants, Syracuse commits Frank Howard and Malachi Richardson. The event is also hosted by recruitnik Alex Kline, who goes to Syracuse. Not that that means much, of course, it just puts a lot of good juju in the room.

Former SU Star Jason Hart Loves What He Sees When the Spurs Play (PS; Poliquin)

As he's serving as an assistant coach out there at Southern California, he's a Trojan these days. And not so long ago, of course, he was an Orangeman who'd be named to Syracuse University's All-Century Team.

But between those two incarnations, Jason Hart — nice guy, tough guy, all-for-one-and-one-for-all guy — was a San Antonio Spur. And after listening to him talk on the telephone the other night, it became pretty obvious that down the road he'd like that chiseled somewhere on his tombstone.

Hop More Than Honorary Chair of Salvation Army Turn-Around Jumpers Tourney (PS; Waters)

Mike Hopkins had already taken his first turn as the honorary chairman of the Salvation Army's Turn-Around Jumpers 3-on-3 basketball tournament.

The Turn-Around Jumpers event had been the idea of the Salvation Army's Young Leaders Advisory Council. And the outgoing Hopkins, the assistant coach of the Syracuse University basketball team, had been the committee's first choice to be the honorary chairman. The inaugural tournament in 2010 had been an overwhelming success.

But before Christmas of that year, Salvation Army executive director Linda Wright thought Hopkins needed to know more about the Salvation Army and what the Turn-Around Jumpers tournament meant for the organization.

Mike Hopkins Helps Unveil Skaneateles Middle School Motto (skaneatlesjournal.com; Monfiletto)

"Work hard, and good things will happen."

That's the message Syracuse University men's basketball assistant coach Mike Hopkins gave to Skaneateles Middle School students during a surprise assembly Thursday afternoon.

The assembly – organized in secret by the middle school Student Council – was called to host the unveiling of the middle school's new motto "Where's your grit?"

The concept behind the model is based on Angela Lee Duckworth's research that grit –defined by Duckworth herself as "passion and perseverance for long-term goals" – is a better indicator of success than social intelligence, physical health and even good looks and other factors.

Is Carmelo really "an international superstar whose celebrity transcends basketball"?

How famous is to none basketball fans or outside this country?
