Evan Adams (63)
SU Gets Verbal From Top Connecticut OL 6'6 300 Pound Evan Adams (PS; Bailey)
Near the end of last December, Norwalk (Conn.) High School coach Sean Ireland sent an email to the Syracuse coaching staff. Inside was a link to Evan Adams' highlight reel.
With limited information available online, Ireland thought this was the offensive lineman's best bet to get noticed.
Nearly half a year later, Adams verbally committed to Syracuse. The 6-foot-6, 300-pound offensive lineman was on his way back from visiting Maryland when he made his decision on Thursday night.
Adams chose the Orange over offers from Maryland, Connecticut and Massachusetts. He visited Syracuse one week ago and becomes the first commit for first-year offensive line coach Joe Adam.

Watch Marquis Spruill and Jerome Smith on HBO's 'Hard Knocks' (PS; Bailey)
As Marquis Spruill and Jerome Smith go through rookie training camp rituals and work to stave off each round of cuts as members of the Atlanta Falcons later this summer, Syracuse fans will be able to watch the former Orange stars' journey from home.
The Falcons will be featured on HBO's "Hard Knocks," which has detailed the training camps of other teams in eight previous seasons since 2001. This year's season debuts Tuesday, Aug. 5 at 10 p.m. HBO will air new episodes each week at that time until the finale on Sept. 2.

College Football Verbal Commitments Are 'Essentially Useless' (PS; Mink)
Maybe the absurdity of college football's recruiting system lies in the numbers: Syracuse has offered 188 players in the 2015 class, according to 247Sports, a little less than the conference average. Louisville has 301 offers out, the most in the conference, and Virginia Tech has the least with 112.
It is impossible for a school to sign that many players. NCAA rules cap a team's scholarship limit at 85, and no more than 25 players can sign in a single class — unless players enroll early and count toward the previous year's class.
Of course, everybody — coaches, players and NCAA experts — understands the inanity of it all. Technically, the NCAA says offers cannot be formally extended until Aug. 1 of a recruit's senior year of high school. It all raises an important question at the heart of college football recruiting today, one that is topical in the wake of the Frank Battle recruiting saga.

Poll: Offensive Rookie of the Year (ESPN; Fortuna)
No love for Syracuse
It's never too early to make predictions, and with the season less than three months away, we are seeking your input on who you think will take home some of the ACC's top honors at season's end.
We continue today with offensive rookie of the year.
Who will be the ACC's 2014 Offensive Rookie of the Year?
QB Mitch Trubisky, North Carolina: Another redshirt freshman, this one with tougher chances to win the starting quarterback job. Nevertheless, the Tar Heels' coaching staff has faith in Trubisky, which is why they opened Marquise Williams' starting spot (and every other starting spot) this spring. Trubisky was ESPN's No. 7 dual-threat quarterback from 2013, and with plenty of skill players around him -- and with UNC looking like a threat to win the Coastal -- big things could be on the horizon for Trubisky, if he can beat out Williams. ...
U of L Ticket Deal Will Gauge ACC Fervor (courier-journal.com; Lintner)
The University of Louisville has offered football-basketball ticket combination deals in the past, but this year's plays to the hottest topic in Cardinals athletics.
To coincide with U of L's move to the Atlantic Coast Conference, the school is selling for $500 upper-level tickets to five home football games and all home men's basketball games, including the ACC slate that brings both Duke and North Carolina to the KFC Yum! Center.
"With moving into the ACC, we wanted to offer a unique package to our fans who do not have season tickets for both football and basketball," said Brad Barber, U of L's assistant athletic director for tickets/operations.
