I agree with the idea that it is a very strong class but I do not expect to see a lot of freshmen on the two deep coming out of fall practice. Mainly because I think the school will try to redshirt the majority of them, and because they duplicate a lot of the skills other players have (if they are head and shoulders above other players they will play, if they are equal I think they will try to redshirt the player to get bigger/faster/smarter). That being said here are my thoughts: QB: 1.) Nassib 2.) Hunt/Loeb 3.) Kinder/Broyld-As been stated earlier Broyld is going to have packages and play a slash type roll but if Nassib were to get hurt I think you will see other players step up before him. RB: 1.) Smith 2.) PTG 3.) Moore/Morris/Rene/McFarlane-McFarlane seems destined to redshirt, Rene seems destined for special teams which leaves Smith, PTG, Moore and Morris. To me this is like two years ago with Carter/Bailey/Collier. Smith is going to grind (18-22 touches), PTG is going to get touches all over the field (10-15 touches) which leaves Moore and Morris fighting for the scraps barring injury. To me Morris will play on special teams, where as I don't think Morris will. I think it stands to logic that if Smith gets hurt Moore see's more action and if PTG gets hurt Morris will get more action. As the season where's on I could see Morris getting more carries if he is as good as the video shows. FB: 1.) Cleveland 2.) Davis 3.) Addazio?-This position wasn't used last year as much as in the past and I have a feeling it will be used a little less this year (more two TE/WR and three WR/one TE sets). Davis will play on special teams and I could see Addazio as an H/Back type player. WR: 1.) Sales 2.) Lemon 3.) West 4.) Every-non Freshman 5.) Freshman-So it is pretty clear that the first three are set and beyond that no one really knows. I think Kobena is a wild card because of his speed, but his hands need to be developed. The rest either haven't shown much (Flemming) or haven't played much (Hale/Foster) to have any idea what they are going to do. The two (Cornelius and Lewis or three if you believe Ford is going to be a WR) freshman seem destined to redshirt. TE: 1.) Wales 2.) Stevens 3.) Everybody else-This is the first real position I think you can have some freshman getting significant PT. First because we run a lot of two TE sets so I could easily see Parris/Thompson backing up Stevens or Wales (with all due respect to Addazio and Beaulieu) but also because Wales, Addazio and Beaulieu have all been injured recently and its not hard to fathom a freshman tight end being pushed into action because of injuries. T: 1.) Pugh/Hickey 2.) Robinson/Curtis 3.) Alexander/Phillips 4.) Barrett-While the right side starter is not set in stone I don't see any freshman playing OT this year G: 1.) Chibane/Foy 2.) Alexander/Trudo 3.) Knapp/Emerich/Palmer-A freshman could end up on the two deep here very easily but I think outside of injuries they will try to redshirt all of these guys Emerich/Palmer need to add weight and Palmer seems like the lowest rated guy of the bunch. C: 1.) Macky 2.) Trudo 3.) not a freshman-I am not sure who the third stringer is (I think Wolf-Gould is there now) so I don't think a freshman will be near playing time here DT: 1.) Jones/Bromley 2.) Crume/Boatman 3.) Sloane/Coleman-This is a pretty deep position and I would be surprised to see Crume start and play running downs with Jones or Bromley playing a pass rusher on longer downs. I don't think Coleman plays this year outside of injury. DE: 1.) Googins/Robinson 2.) Sharpe/Pierce-Brewster 3.) Simmons/Hilliard 4.) Manley/Barnwell-I think the most likely freshman to play is Hilliard but he has to play great to make the 2-deep. I also think it hinges on if Mark Garrick can get his knee cleared before fall practice. If that's the case I think there is a real shot that all three (assuming Barnwell qualifies) are redshirted and unleashed after Googins/Sharpe graduate. LB: 1.) Lynch/Spruill/Davis 2.) Vaughn/Diabate/Vigile 3.) Washington/Coker/Amene-Like others it seems like Washington is destined to redshirt and compete in the coming years. That being said he could also be moved to DE and become a pass rusher. CB: 1.) Lyn/Reddish 2.) Anderson/George 3.) Morgan/Desir-Before I did this I felt like Morgan had a shot to play and still believe that because if he is as good as advertised then we could use the help and also because a couple of injuries could push him up the depth chart really fast. That being said I think they are cross training a lot of players and wouldn't be surprised to see Wilkes or Eskeridge playing a little nickel/dime corner. I think Desir is going to push for PT at both CB and FS positions so I have him here to show that. FS: 1.) Wilkes 2.) Eskeridge 3.) Desir 4.) Whigham-I wouldn't be surprised if Eskeridge or Desir for that matter started because they are better athletes but the experience edge will give Wilkes the starting position to open. Whigham may play on special teams but he seem destined for a redshirt. SS: 1.) Thomas 2.) Mungwa-I am curious to see if Whigham cross trains here or if one of the CB's does because Shamarko is a lock to miss at least a few games and someone will need to be ready for that occurrence. ST: Will be manned by the regulars with the exception of Norton who will handle kickoffs (the one true PT that will be on top of a depth chart).
