FSU Targets Franklin & Interest Is Mutual

Franklin would be an amazing hire for Florida State.
He has kept Penn State in contention with Ohio State and Michigan in his division.
In the ACC it would just be Clemson.

Don’t want him as the next Florida State coach.

And didn't someone say that if Franklin left that PSU would go after Rhule? He would be a strong replacement after the Franklin.

I said Franklin could go to USC and then Rhule would leave Baylor for Penn State.

Florida State though is on par with USC.

I personally think Franklin is more likely to end up in the NFL than he is to go to another college job.

Want no piece of Rhule at Penn State. Dude has never been at a "factory" and still won at a barren recruiting land like Waco. He can win a national championship at Penn State, IMO and has plenty of recruiting connections from his time at Temple to get the players he needs.

What are you talking about? Waco is as big as Syracuse, an hour and and a half from Dallas, 2 hours from Houston and has the pick of talent between those two cities because neither has a big-time program associated with it. Just baffles me that anyone could say any school in Texas is in a "barren recruiting land". Get out more, geesh.

And recent success means recruits likely view them in a positive light.

Completely agree with your post, other than wanting him at FSU. In my view, the conference somewhat desperately needs another strong player, as Clemson really is the only one currently and why the ACC is viewed as weak in general. A strong FSU only helps the conference's reputation.

What about a strong Syracuse instead filling that gap, seemed to work out pretty well last year.

I’d need to be escorted from the Dome if A James Franklin cocky ass FSU team beat us.

That would be great, but in all likelihood, wishful thinking if you think SU can be "strong" year in and year out. I think the best case (realistic) hope is that SU can be generally 'solid' year in and year out, with an occasional "strong." Syracuse University has never been and never will be a 'factory type' perceived school as an FSU...and why we need such a program to be an annual real player for the conference's rep. & health. Just my opinion.

You're probably not wrong but, teams that were unknown can be turned into factories when the right things come together. FSU was a nobody prior to Bowden, noone cared about Oregon before Chip Kelly, Clemson was not a factory until Dabo and even with him it took a little while.

If the right coach can win consistently, the recruits will want to come and that will ultimately raise the profile of a program. Then you have to avoid prolonged down periods which where we have failed in the '70's and and 2000's.

True. However, you're missing a key recipe, especially in today's landscape...those aforementioned are all state funded/Flagship type schools. Night and day from a private the size of Syracuse.

I would prefer a second strong ACC program be a Coastal team so we only face them once every 5-7 years. I would also prefer that Penn State and Florida State both shut down their programs and that Franklin goes to prison for obstructing a rape investigation at Vandy

Ruhle has an easier time winning a national championship at Baylor than Penn State. All they have to do is beat Oklahoma vs. Ohio State, Michigan, and MSU who are all in their same division in the Big Ten.

That is certainly a factor, but if it was that easy to explain, every school that fit that description would compete. How often has UCLA been better than USC, a private school? Miami, another private school, was better in the 80's than FSU and Florida. State funding has little to do with anything since all of the schools we're referencing have profitable football programs. The bigger deal is the flagship status that is connected to the huge alumni bases and the donations they can provide.

I'm not saying we'll ever be a factory. But being a consistent 8-9 win team with an occasional crappy 6 win season and occasional 10 win season is possible and keeps us near the top of our division.
