I don't think it was tipped, but I think he was rushed by his lack of protection.

Not sure it would have mattered given how that safety was pursuing. Didn't seem to be any other WRs attracting that safety's attention.

watching the replay and the huge wobble, it does look tipped, it was about 10 yds underthrown so that would explain it.

Tipped by whom? The DE on the right side is well behind him. You can see in the endzone angle he isn't that close. The DE on the left side hits Collins' body.

Do you really think the ball gets that far if it were tipped?

Maybe. But is there a reason the ball was wobbling so bad the instant it left his hand. from the side angle you can see it. I didnt see ither passes with that kind of wobble, almost enough to begin to think it was going to go end over end.

I didn't think it was tipped live either , just that it was vastly under thrown. but watching replay it does look tipped

the main issue is that I cant see a view to tell me where they would draw the safety eyes in that coverage.

We blocked 7 they sent 6, but both tackles missed the block. Now if we sent the inside slot guy across the safety might not react to the deep ball as easily but he just curled. The throw needs to be skinny post to work at all with the release the WR got

It was a better spiral that Shrader's passes. It seemed more like a rushed throw that was all arm and no body.

IMHO watching the game through again, I feel more optimistic about Rickie. Yes he made some mistakes, locking in on his target has got to end, but there was some good as well. He stood in and made some difficult throws while also making the simple ones look simple. Ball placement was excellent for the most part and he did show the ability at times to read the field/work through his progressions correctly. Untimely penalties, fumbles, and drops certainly didn’t help the offense. Not saying Rickie doesn’t have plenty room to improve, however rewatching it gave me some hope the offense to improve this weekend.

That's why QB is such a difficult position and it is no slap in one's face to say he doesn't have "it".

Sure the safety got to it. But there is no way to really know where he was going to throw it to be caught. He could been throwing it all the way to the endzone in which case JRS could have gotten to high point it,

If he was throwing a center post it was not gonna end well anyway but more likely he was at least throwing it outside the hash for a 50/50 ball.

If Fran thinks the heat is on after losing to Duke, imagine the pressure cooker of an SEC school. Boosters paying you $7.5M, plus another $20M out of pocket on player deals. Dabo wins 10 games every year and the message boards want him gone. The NFL fires coaches after 1 year all the time. Now college football (UCLA) has guys getting fired after 1 year and 3 games... Va Tech firing a coach 3 games into the year... Oklahoma State and Arkansas already making moves. We can drop a turd against SMU and still come home 3-3 with Pitt, UNC, and BC on schedule.

Meanwhile... people have to realize that QB can be... difficult. Clemson, LSU, and Texas have Heisman candidate QBs all playing worse than Angeli was at the time of the injury. How bad must their backups be to not get any PT? Clemson has a guy that has been there a few years and is not getting meaningful PT. Collins is QB2 for a reason... he is better than QB3 and he has upside to potentially harness.

Castellanos got pulled from the game against us last year. Against OUR defense. And now he is playing pretty well for Florida State. Explain that. Some guys it just takes longer. Sometimes the O.C. needs to do different things to make it work. That is what the OC gets paid to do. Castellanos got benched and quit. Ricky got supplanted as QB1 and stuck around. And nobody wants to give him 3 games to see what he can do???

I know there are QB guru's everywhere, including on this board, and there is a "need" to cast blame for a disappointing loss, but that INT ain't on Collins. Well, unless you decide it fits a narrative.

We got thumped. By Duke and it sucked. Opportunity lost in front of a sellout crowd. But we did not get beat like that solely because of Rickie Collins. He did not play well. But he was a long way from the awful or incompetent that the vast majority have portrayed here.

Rickie had a heavy hand in winning the Clemson game. That seems to have been forgotten. Without that TD pass, that might be a different game. Rickie got the baseball equivalent of earning the save, with Angeli pocketing the win.

I am not a QB guru, that's for sure. But, the part that is on him is it seems his throwing motion is still long and slow. There were multiple times that his arm got hit due to his motion, in my opinion. The long motion also allows the defensive lineman to time getting their arms up to block throws. That happened multiple times, as well. I know it also happened to Angeli, so maybe that isn't as valid a point.
