Roster, What. When he signed I thought would be a sure fire difference maker. I'm not saying kid should be playing, etc. it just seems that a kid recruited at Arkansas by Petrino at wr, should be at least be able to get some run. Weird.

There are tons of kids who are awesome in HS that never duplicate the success in College, or great in college, cant transition to the pros. He apparently isnt the first, and certainly wont be the last.

It wouldve made sense to run him or Kobena on the sideline go routes that we were in love with. I like West but that's not his specialty. It would give us a bit more versatility to run West & Kobena as the 1's and Flemming & Clark as the 2's. Funder or others could be worked in some basic routes. Broyld should be moved all over the field to give opposing DB's a different look.

Eh, I don't know. He's still pretty young. eligibility wise, and we're one game in to the season.

I never like to write any recruit off. These kids commit to be at Syracuse for 4 or 5 years. Even if they dont touch the field for four years, and have a respectable red-shirt senior year, they are worth their scholarship. One of the more insidious side effects of the recruiting services is that we get to follow these kids for so long prior to their reaching campus, that we crave instant gratification (this of course, says nothing of the rating systems in and of themselves).

Funderburke certainly is a bit of an off case. I'll retain hope that he can become a productive player and student for the University.

Being in the dog house all Spring hasn't helped his case . Something is strange about all of this. I really think if the prior staff was here we would be seeing a whole lot of Funderburke .

I understand why Funderburk was a highly rated prospect. Kid has fantastic measurables--size, speed, athleticism in a rare package. The problem is, he doesn't seem to have the skill / technique required to be a good WR, certainly not to the level of his physical attributes. My fear is that the projections won't ever match the productivity in that he's primarily a specimen first and a football player second who doesn't have a great feel for the game or the game instincts to be a marquee WR.

He's got three years of eligibility left. Hopefully, he'll begin to put it together and produce at some point.

I can buy that, but how do we explain the over the top compliments the old staff gave him?

Without being at practice and in film sessions, it's difficult to know what the situation is. Are his fundamentals poor? Does he have an attitude problem? Is he not blocking properly on running plays? Is he unable to read coverages and make the proper adjustments? Is he hampered by a combination of all of the above? Tough to say without being there to observe his progress and to hear the feedback that the coaches are providing him. It's even tougher to predict his potential impact or lack thereof over the course of his career so early in the process. Given that the offense needs as many playmakers as it can get, we can only hope that he is working diligently to improve/correct whatever is keeping him off the field.

I'd like to see him get a shot on the field a couple of times. He might be a crappy practice player, but I want to see him in a game. If he disappears then he deserves where he is on the depth chart and needs to improve. I'm think he has the talent, but the drive may not be there.

I'd like to see him earn the coaches' confidence before being put on the field.

people should just get off this kids back...the only thing he needs to offer is effort, the rest will take care of it's self

Funderburke was Scouts #35 receiver in the 2011 high school class.
"A big, strong receiver that’s an acrobat in the air adjusting to the ball. Has terrific body control and boxes out smaller defensive backs like he’s going for a rebound. More than just a jump ball specialist though, Funderburk runs crisp routes and is capable of breaking a tackle and running over, around, and by potential tacklers. A tough receiver that will cut inside looking for extra yards instead of hunting for the sidelines "

Allen Robinson was the #108 receiver:
"Robinson is a big framed receiver with great leaping ability as well as ball skills to take advantage of that height. He has very good hands and has shown that he can make tough grabs whether he's going up high over a defender, or catching short passes with defenders all over his back. He shows good awareness around the sidelines. He's not a blazer though and is not a big threat after the catch. He's a physical kid who will block."

Funderburke is actually a year older, having been born 9/30/92 vs. 8/24/93. They are both 6-3 and about 200 lbs, (different listings have slightly different weights, obviously taken at different times). Our guy is on the sidelines, (and I am assuming that's on him, not the coaches), and their guy is scoring touchdowns.

(I linked those in a previous post and then went back and found the links didn't work, so i am quoting them here).

All I know was Marrone raved about his practices last year at one of his Luncheons...

Reminds me a bit of Morant and Lobdell. Theyl both arrived as physically imposing, highly recruited guys. Johnny ended up a stud but it took 3 years. Lavar never really contributed in a major way. So...who knows.

any chance he was suspended and we just don't know it?

Funny I was wondering the same or that maybe he has some academic issues he needs to prioritize. It appears that whatever it is - his attitude remains good.

and he has made plays in front of fans and media in practices the past Spring, and Summer. I really believe he is just in the dog house. HCSS doesn't seem like a guy that would take academic issues too lightly. The few plays I saw at fan fest he jumped out on how fluid and effortless he made it look.

Was thinking the same, something doesn't add up. It's like Sales when he wasn't playing only worse because from what I have heard funderburk is incredible talent. Like I said, something not adding up. I don't buy for a second that there are 4-5 receivers better than he is on this team. I just don't

Yeah I was under the impression that this kid was suppose to be a target on offense. Haven't heard anything about him since he decided to transfer to Syracuse. Is he even getting reps with first team?

It has zero to do with his talent. Read the interview and read what Shafer said
