Future NBA players on NCAA championship teams

hmmm Anthony Davis instead of Fab Melo.

I wonder if things would be slightly better for us right now if that happened...

SI just sent me this article:

I think it's between Carmelo Anthony and Anthony Davis as to who turned out ot be the best NBA players. Anthony vs. Anthony. Too bad they weren't both Syracuse players. As I recall that almost happened. (And we surely would have won the title that year if it did.)

Barring any unforeseen injuries (and that is a real chance, Davis gets dinged up quite a bit), Ant Davis should finish ahead of Melo on the all time list.

With that said, Melo is going to be a HoF player. He'll retire with some serious numbers. He'll have his gold medals. Finishing second to someone who should be consistently in the NBA MVP race for the next decade is nothing to be ashamed of.

That has to be one of the bigger "what if's" in Syracuse recruiting that I can recall. Can you imagine a lineup with Scoop, Triche, Joseph, Davis and Melo, with Waiters, Fair, MCW, Southerland, Keita, and Christmas coming off the bench? I'm a big fan of the late 80's early 90's teams, but that lineup would be the best SU team by a mile.

I know it's just the last 10 years, and just champions, but kind of amazing, doesn't the list seem a little light? Then again, Melo/AD/Noah/Horford are all NBA all stars.

At this point I think Davis has a legit chance as going down as one of the say, 8 or 10 best players in the history of the league. Obviously we have miles to go, but no shame if Melo is #2 behind him.

39-0. This year's Kentucky team would be looking to break our record.
