Here is what I wrote in a private conversation when Marrone left in January 2013. It was in response to someone suggesting Jeff Stoutland.

"I'm not so sure overtalent and steamroll 12 teams a year is the formula here.

Give me a guy (Montgomery, Hamilton, Hackett) who knows how to do more with less. Private school high achievers on offense should be the target set, IMO."

If the new AD has this list or something like it, he's the guy that gets the job.

That is what I wrote two years ago. If he was a seen a viable option then, he now has two years experience as an NFL coordinator.

Are you telling me you wouldn't rather see this than the last couple of years.

how about the have a little talent and run fast past opponents 12x a year formula??

instead of the Great Puntender and mr hardnose get kicked around at home formulas?

I don't know if he was a viable option 2 years ago, or "1 of 2 cheap, already on staff and involved in recruiting options" 2 years ago.

No one has heard that DG considered anyone outside of Shafer or Hackett, so I think it would take some convincing to see him as an option for the next AD.

Just making sure there wasn't a steve hackett out there. i'd probably take nate and steve over what we'll have this year

we don't need hackett on any short lists. 2012 was fine but 1 for 5 blows.

How good was that offensive line? That could have been one of the best OL's we've ever had. It was so enjoyable watching the offense that year. Made the games so much more fun and entertaining.
