[QUOTE="SUFan44, post: 750695, member: 39"] Marrone was a very good person to bring our team from the depths. I do think he loved (loves) the University and will continue to support it as best he can. The circumstances of his departure were unfortunate - he left us at a time where the team and the University were moving upward in a new direction and a better direction. We had a number of key recruits committed that could probably have made a difference. But he made a change knowing full well the ramifications to his legacy at SU and the potential pitfalls of the NFL. I truly believe he came to Syracuse intending to stay here for years. But the recruiting, the chasing after 18-22 year old kids and the fundraising aspects of the job, not to mention the football part, made it such that he realized maybe he was not suited to be a college football head coach after all. Unless you have tremendous boosters and unlimited resources, the world of college football is not for everyone. It's a lot of long hours, a ton of travel and a lot of missed opportunities with family. The NFL schedule is a structured one - you rarely have to worry about a kid getting in trouble in the dorms, having meetings with academic advisors speaking about kids not doing their work, etc. I do not blame Doug for taking the path to the NFL - and I truly hope (especially as a Bills fan) that he does well. I also hope that Syracuse fans are able to forgive him for the way he left. It is always difficult to leave a job that you have had success for another - people are always going to resent you. As has been said, it's unfortunate that people need to see the way Doug handled Rob Edson's passing to truly understand he is a caring man - but I just hope that it resonates and brings some closure to some people's thoughts on him as a person and as a professional.
