Bonnie is an absolute gun, significantly superior to the Australians already there and offered. Extremely athletic 3 level scorer, high end defender and rebounder. Needs work on her playmaking and is good but not great from 3.
Hoping the Aussies on our roster help to convince her to join our team. She reminds me of Tiana!

YOUNG VICS STAR IN NBA ACADEMY GAMES IN ATLANTA

Tayli Dimarco And Bonnie Deas Star In NBA Academy Games In Atlanta

Bonnie Deas, had an exceptional performance and was instrumental in her team, the Storm, maintaining an unbeaten streak and clinching the championship title. Deas, at only 17, held her own and outshone several older, more experienced players. She was the only player from the class of 2025 on the Storm.

An international breakout was the natural next step for Deas, who has long dominated the Victorian junior pathways. Just last year, she won a championship with Frankston’s Youth League Women, suited up for the Blues’ senior side in the NBL1 South, starred at the National Junior Classic, led Rowville College to the semi-finals of the Australian Basketball Schools Championships, and finally, earned a scholarship to Basketball Australia’s Centre of Excellence (CoE) in Canberra for 2023 and 2024.

Her performance at the Academy Games felt like another big step – she averaged a double-double, leading the event in rebounds (10.0 per game) and steals (3.0) and finishing second in scoring (15.0).

I think shows excellent skills and would be another great CAB recruit if she wants to be in ORANGE!

Before we start with the Tiana comparisons, she may be more athletic than our current Aussies, which isn't saying much, and she isn't even close to Tiana's playmaking ability. From what I have seen on film, she has the ability to take the ball to the basket and get into the paint, but she is going to need a really strong supporting cast, she doesn't appear to be the single dominating offensive force that Tiana was.

Bonnie is making official visits to Mississippi State, Syracuse, Washington, and Arkansas University. I'd be surprised if her relationship with Maddy Potts doesn't see her land in Syracuse.
I still say Maddy Potts is the most Aussie name ever.

Ozone, could you look at the top of the page on the right side for a picture of an envelope between your screen name “Ozone” and a picture of a bell? There should be a ‘1’ by the envelope. If you click on it you will see a personal message for you. Thank you.

Syracuse is losing out on Aussie recruits because they are largely offering the ones with the most profile, those at the COE. You have been successful with Burrows and Potts because largely because they were not at the COE and so didn't have the same level of exposure. Theoretically the best players should be at the COE, but this is not reality. Bonnie is potentially a star in College, but she is ball dominant and not great off ball, just a good shooter and an average passer. Maddie Potts is not as good as her but she's taller and a far superior shooter, she will almost definitely be a better off ball player and you have to question what role Bonnie will be able to pay without significant growth in her shooting and passing. There are lots of Aussie players like Maddie Potts that are just as likely to succeed at College level who will not have the same level of opportunity to expose themselves to Colleges as the kids from the COE.

You missed out on a good one with Somfai. but dodged a bullet with Monique Williams, I am confident to say that she won't be a good college player. The next group of 2025 recruits from the COE are largely very flawed as well and most of the best 2026 recruits are not at the COE. If the school looks outside of this there are lots of potentially really good college players who would likely love eh opportunity to play at such a prestigious program, particularly as there have been plenty of successful Australian players go through there. The school just needs to be smarter and cast the net a bit wider. There was a big group who toured the US in July with a group called AUSA and ATC Academy (Where Maddie Potts came from) and played in major AAU tournaments, and some of them clearly stood out, and there are lots more playing in the major competitions in Australia on a weekly basis that can easily be scouted.

Most of the best Australian players are from a relatively small number of clubs in each Capital City an all their games are recorded and would be available to any College that sought them out. It would just take for one College to be proactive and they could get a major competitive advantage in term of recruiting the best Aussie players.

I think the lack of NIL/Financial collective money is hurting our recruiting efforts. Recruiting priorities change , I recognize that, and we have a new recruiting coordinator, but we seem to be striking out on a lot of our targets. If you look at the makeup of our current roster as well as what next year's roster will look like, we are in need of some bigs, some post players, yet, we have not been able to sign any big time post players. Our current roster looks like the perfect opportunity for a talented big! There has to be more going on here than just our coaches and their ability to recruit. In this current era of NIL and pay to play, money talks and everything else, isn't as meaningful as it used to be. We are going to have a difficult time competing on the National stage unless we get our financial /athlete compensation house in order.

You seem to know a lot about Australian hoops, so I have a question, Tiana Mangahkahia , was one of the best Ausssie players that i have ever seen. We got her from JUCO! Is she the type talent that you are talking about in terms of not playing in the COE?

We can't miss out on New Yorker Madison Francis!!

Tiana went to the COE, she is the reason for my interest in Syracuse s i loved watching her play. Georgia Amoore is a good example of one who didn't go there but has surpassed all the girls her age who did. Some really good 2024 recruits from Australia who went to lower ranked schools are Amy Kurkowski and Edie Clarke who have both gone to St Mary's and Hannah Wickstrom to US Riverside. All 3 are on par with Bonnie and Lara Somfai as prospects in my opinion. Have a look out for those names this college season.

Tiana was magical!!! She was such a dominant force...and played with such passion and flare! I loved her game, one of my all time favorites!!

Tiana was a tragic illness away from greatness. She was a unique talent and just so fun to watch. One of my favorite SU hoops players of all time.

That woman as more fight and grit in her than an entire rugby team.

I Agee 100%. I didn't miss a game when she played. I saw one of her first games when she joined the Cuse. It was at George Washington in DC. I left that game saying Damn!!!!! That is a bad girl!!!..LOL...
