As has been proven throughout the annals of time, the best way to predict the outcome of this game we call football is to delve into the quality and number of former players drafted by the New York Football Giants. Advanced metrics have shown a strong correlation between the two. They say that 60% of the time, it works every time. So let's take a look at the University of Miami Hurricanes vs the Syracuse Orangemen...
Number of Players Drafted by the Giants
Syracuse- 9
Miami- 14
Advantage: Canes, not off to a good start for SU
Highest Drafted Giants Player
Syracuse- 19th overall
Miami- 9th overall
Advantage: Canes, SU falling further behind
Offensive Players
Syracuse- Justin Pugh OL (2013 1st Round, 19th overall), Bruce Tarbox OL (1961 2nd Round), Joe Morris RB (1982 2nd), Ryan Nassib QB (2013 4th), David Tyree WR (2003 6th), Bob Yates OL (1960 7th)
Miami- Ereck Flowers OL (2015 1st Round, 9th overall), Jeremy Shockey TE (2002 1st), Sinorice Moss WR (2006 2nd), Paul O'Connor OL (1987 5th), Steve Alvers TE (1979 7th), Daryl Jones WR (2002 7th), Tom Kearns OL (1942 8th), Ken Johnson RB (1979 11th)
Advantage: Cuse, a close one but SU finally gets on the board. Wreck Flowers is enough to put Miami behind.
Kearns was Miami's first All American football player. He was also on the Boxing and BBall teams. He is in the Miami HoF and the building is named after him.
Defensive Players
Syracuse- Will Allen DB (2001 1st Round), Jay Bromley DL (2014 3rd), Jerry Kimmel LB (1986 10th)
Miami- William Joseph DL (2003 1st), Kenny Phillips DB (2008 1st), Greg Mark LB (1990 3rd), RJ McIntosh DL (2018 5th), Johnny Bookman DB (1957 8th), Jessie Armstead LB (1993 8th)
Advantage: Canes, Miami with another 2 busts but Jessie makes up for it
Phillips selection was the last of a 14 year streak of Miami players being taken in the 1st round. Another Miami player wouldn't be taken in the 1st round for another 7 years.
There you have it folks. The stats don't lie. The U will defeat the Syracuse Orange.
