As has been proven throughout history, the best way to figure out who will win each week is the quality and number of former players drafted by the New York Football Giants. Advanced metrics have shown a strong correlation between the two. They say that 60% of the time, it works every time. So let's take a look at the Holy Cross Crusaders vs the Syracuse Orangemen... Number of Players Drafted by the Giants Syracuse- 9 Holy Cross- 3 Advantage: Cuse, off to the quick start Highest Drafted Giants Player Syracuse- 19th overall Holy Cross- 5th overall Advantage: Holy Cross, as they get back into this game Offensive Players Syracuse- Justin Pugh OL (2013 1st Round, 19th overall), Bruce Tarbox OL (1961 2nd Round), Joe Morris RB (1982 2nd), Ryan Nassib QB (2013 4th), David Tyree WR (2003 6th), Bob Yates OL (1960 7th) Holy Cross- George Connor OL/LB (1946 1st Round), Fritz Barzilauskas OL (1947 19th), Ed McNamera OL (1943 27th!!!!!) Advantage: Holy Cross, just for the oddities. Do we have an upset brewing? Besides being a 27th round pick, McNamara was the Boston Police Commissioner. Fritz was drafted twice. He was first taken by the Boston Yanks in the 1947 draft. He also portaled to Yale so maybe he shouldn't count as a Holy Cross guy. Connor has a similar story. He started at Holy Cross and was an All American. That is when the Giants drafted him. However after WWII he transferred to Notre Dame, winning two Outland Trophies and two National Titles, while also serving as Captain in 1947. He was a Pro Bowler with the Bears, never playing for the Giants. He was a member of the NFL's 1940s All Decade Team, a member of the 100 Greatest Bears, and both a College and NFL HoFer. He also worked as a color guy for CBS games. That all being said he didn't finish at Holy Cross and he didn't play for the NYG. Defensive Players Syracuse- Will Allen DB (2001 1st Round), Jay Bromley DL (2014 3rd), Jerry Kimmel LB (1986 10th) Holy Cross- None Advantage: Cuse, although Connor did play both ways There you have it folks. The stats don't lie. The Syracuse Orange will pull off the victory in a game closer than expected.
